Future Horizons: Beyond Lithium

The momentum behind battery tech shows no signs of stopping. Experts are already looking toward the next phase of development:

  • Sodium-ion Batteries: These are projected to be even cheaper and more environmentally sustainable than LFPs. Because sodium is "a thousand times more abundant than lithium," these batteries reduce reliance on critical, pollutive minerals like cobalt and nickel.
  • Redox Flow Batteries: While currently small-scale, this technology could redefine storage capacity by separating electrodes with liquid, potentially allowing for "daily or even multi-day capacity" rather than the standard four-hour limit.
  • Electric Aviation: The trajectory of battery improvement is so significant that electric 20-seater planes are moving from the realm of science fiction toward potential reality.
