Welcome to Before Breakfast, a production of iHeart Radio.
Good morning.
This is Laura.
Welcome to the Before Breakfast podcast.
Today's tip is to create a good morning routine.
That is a routine that says good morning to everyone around you and will help you actually have a good morning.
On a podcast called Before Breakfast, we talk a lot about good morning routines.
Whenever someone is making time for exercise or creative expression alongside work and family, there is a good chance they are getting up early to do it.
But today, my focus isn't on good morning routines.
It's on good morning routines.
Routines that involve saying good morning, literally or in your actions, to you and the people around you.
We are talking about starting the day with connection and good cheer.
So what could a good morning routine look like?
If your partner is awake when you are or wakes up at the same time, the two of you can say good morning to each other.
A snuggle or a hug works too.
In general, spending an extra 60 seconds in bed won't destroy your morning, but might make you feel a lot closer to each other.
Likewise, if you have pets, you can greet them with a good morning pat too.
Yes, taking the dog out first thing in the morning might feel like a chore, and it is particularly if the weather is lousy.
But your dog is probably happy to see you in the morning, so you can return the favor.
If you pray first thing in the morning can be a great time to express gratitude and ask for guidance for particular interactions that day.
It's like saying good morning to a higher power.
I know of an older couple who have a cup of coffee and watch the sun rise from their bedroom window every morning.
People who aren't retired may not have time for that.
But you can still have your first cup of coffee on your porch or patio or by a window and use the time to in essence say good morning to the sun.
And speaking of greeting the sun, sun salutations.
Other yoga moves and stretching can be a great way to say good morning to your body and start the morning with peace and intention.
I know lots of my listeners are parents who scramble to get themselves and their kids out the door in the morning.
It can be easy to be stressed by all the morning demands.
But even if kids are a bit grumbly, you can have a good morning routine with them too.
Say good morning and let them know you are happy to see them.
I can't promise your sleepy teen will reciprocate, but the positive energy can't hurt.
Your coworkers, likewise, can be the beneficiaries of your good morning routine.
Make your first interaction with your coworkers positive and relational.
Say good morning to anyone you see regularly in the course of getting to work.
Then you can get down to business.
Starting your day off right isn't just about having a morning routine that sets you up for productivity.
It's also about setting the tone for the interactions and experiences that are to come.
When you say good morning to people or otherwise, let them know you are happy to see them, chances are the day will be productive because you all feel like you are on the same team.
In the meantime, this is Laura.
Thanks for listening.
