Hey, JJ, wanna hear a story?
Yes, I do!
Can I please help tell it, too?
Yes, listen close.
Let's imagine and rhyme.
It's Coco Melon Storytime!
Okay, we got everything we needed from the store.
Now, who's ready to go to Cody's house?
Me, me, me!
Let's go!
We just got in the car.
You're going to have to be patient.
How do I be patient?
Great question.
Being patient means staying calm, even if things take a really long time.
Do you remember the story of the tortoise and the hare?
Yeah.
They had a race and the tortoise was really slow.
But he just kept going, even when the hare took a nap.
That's right, the tortoise was patient with himself.
I know another story about the tortoise and the hare, and in this one the hare learns how to be patient.
Want to hear it?
Yes, please.
It's called the tortoise and the hare go to the fair.
One day, the tortoise and the hare went to the fair to have some fun.
There's yummy snacks, carnival rides and lots of games to play.
Oh, I love games.
As soon as they got there, tortoise heard a boink and a ding.
It was a hammer game.
You swing a toy hammer as hard as you can, and if you hit the pad hard enough, a bell rings and you win a prize.
The tortoise said, I would love to swing the hammer and win a prize.
But the hare saw the game's long line and couldn't believe his eyes.
Did they get in line and wait?
They did, but they weren't waiting long before the hare started complaining.
This line is taking too long.
The tortoise shrugged and said If you're patient while you wait, you'll find things can turn out great.
But the hare pouted, I don't like this line.
I don't want to be in it.
I want something fun right this minute.
So the hare hopped away hop hop hop, till he saw a popcorn stand and heard pop pop, pop.
The hare heard the popcorn maker popping a fresh batch and it smelled so yummy.
He just couldn't wait for it to be in his tummy.
The hare paid with one ticket and before anyone could stop him, the hare grabbed a bag and went hop hop, hopping.
The hare didn't want to wait.
No, he didn't.
But as he walked away, he heard the bag rattle.
The bag was just kernels.
Oh, no!
The popcorn wasn't ready yet.
It didn't pop, pop, pop.
Exactly.
The hare felt frustrated.
He wanted to have fun somehow.
And he wanted to do it now, now, now.
Just then, he heard a sound.
An elephant was blowing up balloons.
The hare handed the elephant one ticket.
And the elephant used his trunk to blow one up.
But before the elephant could finish tying the balloon in a knot, the hare grabbed it and hopped away.
Hare thought he'd found the fun he'd been seeking.
But before too long, the balloon started squeaking.
What happened?
Since hare didn't wait for the elephant to finish tying a knot on the balloon, all the air blew right out of it.
The balloon deflated.
Oh no!
The hare wasn't getting anything he wanted, so he hopped back to the hammer game.
And do you know what he found?
What?
His friend, the tortoise, was at the front of the line.
How'd you get all the way over there?
I waited patiently, said the tortoise to the hare.
If you're patient while you wait, You'll find things can turn out great.
The tortoise grabbed the hammer and swung it as hard as he could.
And the bell went ding!
Just like the tortoise hoped it would.
He did it!
He did it!
What did he win, Daddy?
A big, giant teddy bear!
Oooh!
Hare realized he should have waited to play the game too.
Instead, all he got was unpopped popcorn and a flat balloon.
Was the hare sad?
Yes, he wished he'd been a more patient hare.
But the tortoise said this prize was one they could share.
Tortoise held one paw and hare held another, and they carried the bear between each other.
That's so nice!
They walked through the fair and tortoise said, Now how about a ride on the Ferris wheel?
Is the Ferris wheel the big tall circle one that spins?
Yes, JJ.
But the Ferris wheel had a really long line.
This line is so long.
It will be dark by the time we get on.
But when he looked at his patient friend, the tortoise, Hare remembered.
If you're patient while you wait, You'll find things can turn out great.
So the hare got in line.
He really did learn.
Yes.
And since it was dark by the time, it was their turn.
When the Ferris wheel spun them way up high, they could see every star twinkle, twinkle in the sky.
They saw the colorful lights below at the fair and the hare felt so lucky to be sitting there.
The hare thanked the tortoise for making his day so great.
He hugged his friend and said, This was definitely worth the wait.
The end.
We heard a story.
Yes, it's true.
And I helped tell it, too.
We listened, imagined, and made some rhymes for Coco Melon Story.
