My name is Jack and I'm here with my co -host Sochal.
And today we're going to do one more topic talk game edition.
How well do you know your podcasting partner?
and when you feel social is what kind of music do i enjoy the most sorry what was that jack i didn't hear you what kind of music do i enjoy the most what do you think what's what music what kind of music what genre do you think that i enjoy the most some variation of rock okay okay i'll give it to you
i'll give it to you i'll give it to you um i grew up in the 90s so grunge yeah that's my you know nirvana i was gonna think grunge that's what i was gonna say like some but i just wanted to be more broad just in case yeah because i love pink floyd i love led zeppelin i love the rolling stones I love
the Beatles. I mean, it's it's not just that.
But but my the music that defines my my high school years, you know, and college years is definitely 90s grunge rock Stone Temple Pilots, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, the Pixies.
Um I those that's the music that I loved uh the most um now I'm gonna try to answer this for you together and packing um to move to Korea um Latin pop like Shakira yeah well no um it's not really Latin pop it's uh boleros which is like traditional latin american music genre okay okay so it's not more
like 1950s latin american music oh okay okay um okay okay so so that's your that's your favorite genre then so that's more you're more in the traditional uh type of latin music than the more modern kind of version of it or whatever like that yes okay yeah oh interesting okay all right all right so uh
one point for you zero for me um i was i was only off by like uh 60 years so yeah only though only only 60 years still in the right vein though which is impressive number two can you recall a specific goal or aspiration your friend yeah than you did in the moment and you appreciate certain things like
a goal that you have recently a goal i feel like you've talked about this um um i want to say that you aspire to create some music like record something because I know that you're a very talented musician um in particular you have a uh an excellent singing voice uh because I've heard you sing on your
Facebook uh you've posted some of your uh compositions and stuff and I feel like like one of your goals is to is to do it uh more seriously you know maybe not professionally but to take it more seriously am I am I on the right to track here yes that is that is the right track yeah I I'm giving that to
you for sure okay okay okay and what about me question was yeah can you recall a specific goal or aspiration your friend mentioned recently okay i was confused about the recently part um okay recently i believe that one of your goals for this new year you know be one of those people that never wear
improve your health overall is that correct yeah lose weight yeah exactly exactly um but i i started with my new year's resolution was to lose lose weight um take a cold shower every day like a 30 seconds uh ice ice shower and uh not drink coffee for the first hour and i failed i did three days of cold
showers i did it and it is brutal in the winter oh man is here how warm in the winter is like the thing i'm curious about because in korea a lot of times it's on those right floor heating but the bathrooms are not heated though so the bathroom is cold yeah so when you walk in the bathroom it's kind
of like walking outside it's a weird you know right well that was my question because i find that a lot of people don't turn the i'm i might be saying that wrong on the floor yeah floor Floorheating.
Right. Right. Yep. Don't turn.
A lot of people don't turn it on that much during the winter or only for like a limited time because it's quite expensive.
Right. Yes. Yes. So that's why I was like, is your house like actually warm Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday outside?
Right. You know, it's not like like the American system.
Everything is goes through a vent.
Right. So so it warms the air, the air in the room gets warm here.
they warm the floor and it kind of trickles up but it's never really like if you lie on the floor it feels fantastic if you can find a hot spot on the floor I used to do that in my old apartment when I was single I would find a hot spot and I would just sleep there at night put a blanket down and sleep
on a hot spot like a like a dog you know finding a like a warm spot um but uh now we kind of keep it at a certain level where it's just enough to be comfortable.
But we conserve energy because it's very expensive.
But yeah, I failed on two of those, but I'm still exercising every day.
So I figured make three New Year's resolutions and then, you know, throw two of them away you still got one you're doing all right so right yeah i think you're doing okay i i honestly kind of oh right i do remember what my resolution was but i i want to i want to kick them up a notch like i'm trying
to i'm going to use a big word here trajectory there's like a what was your new resolution again i forgot i actually remember jack i think we might have to re -watch the episode to remember i think it was i i think i wanted i think uh i don't remember jack maybe i want to be more assertive or something
but i can't really remember or maybe like i think you wanted to win a grammy wasn't it something like that i wish that would be a fun new year's resolution i better get on that then you gotta hurry up yeah yeah okay number three what is your friends or podcasting partner's favorite book or author um
i don't think you've told me this about yourself i know and i don't think i okay well wait um i know you like oh my god howard zen and i do like howard zen yeah yeah yeah I know you like him I don't think I don't think he's a favorite but I know you like him and then I know you like god was it war and peace
or it was one of those long books um that's like classic literature yeah I think you're thinking a farewell to arms yes farewell to arms that's the one yeah that's is that i think it's like uh it's kind of like looking back through your favorite author is yes yeah you're close though i mean like war
and peace farewell arms there's this similar you know genre kind of yeah i suppose war and peace was more of a that that's that's a tough one to get through that's like 500 yeah 500 pages yeah yeah yeah with all those with all those russian names in there too you know so i know yeah throwing you off
gosh yeah um i'm gonna say i have no idea you're you're an english lit major but i'm thinking like uh paulo kalo paulo kelo i don't know if i'm saying his name right um i don't who that is jack i'll be honest uh the alchemist no uh no no okay okay i'm i'm sorry um i have no idea um i don't really know
uh jk rowling just kidding i don't know if i would have a favorite author how about a favorite book yeah sure do you know any uh a favorite book um social's favorite book short story and even stress hormones like cortisol which can contribute i mean this is so yeah i could say like don quixote but i
mean that was that's such a lame guess you know that is a pretty bad guess i'm not gonna lie that's a bad one yeah yeah i mean Not so bad.
All right, well, I'll tell you.
I have, like, three kind of favorites off the top of my head.
Dieciséis cuentos latinoamericanos, which are, like, 16 Latin American short stories.
That's what they're talking about.
And then a couple in English, which is The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Gilman Perkins and The Bell Dry by Sylvia Plath.
Oh, okay, okay, okay.
Wow, all right, all right.
But I, you know, we could have been here all day and all night, and I wouldn't have even gotten close to that.
Sylvia Plath. Yeah, I've never read any Sylvia Plath, but, you know, there's so many, like, references to her in pop culture.
You know what I mean?
Right. But, okay. The Yellow Wallpaper, I've heard of it, but I have never read it before.
And you need to get on that.
Yeah, you should read both of these because I think they're really interesting.
Yeah. But with the Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath.
Insurance. Get more with Geico.
While in Korea. It was really...
They're both depressing.
They're both kind of like feminist core deep depression for feminist intellectuals that are caged kind of by social expectations.
yeah that's right in my right in my wheelhouse yeah it's like early 1900s kind of yeah american literature which is where i mean not early but early to mid 1900s so like 1950s and before yeah um and that kind of wheelhouse i wanted ladies and gentlemen we are now boarding group a please have your boarding
passes ready to scan if your phone is cracked old or was chewed up by your chihuahua travel companion, please refrain from holding up the line.

To everyone who loves the taste of tradition, come enjoy a classic Wisconsin fish fry at Culver's.
I'm Genesis from Culver's in Claremont, Florida.
And here, Family Fish Fry is a part of who we are.
We've been serving up fish fry favorites for over 40...
Have you ever had that experience?
Um, you know, it's interesting.
The place where the fish fry was perfected.
If you're craving something crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside, you've got to try our hand -battered North Atlantic cod.
It's perfectly seasoned and my personal favorite.
Or if you're in the mood for a little extra crunch, our lightly breaded butterfly jumbo shrimp hits the spot every time whatever you order i promise it will be made with love by a team who cares because we want every guest to feel like family that's just how we do it in wisconsin dive into delicious
with all your fish fry favorites at culver's from wisconsin with love welcome to delicious i'm not super sure when the bell jar came out but it was somewhere in that time frame where women were pretty limited um right right and she kind of wants more for herself and she's a brilliant woman um and the novel
is i guess partially autobiographical or at least loosely yeah i don't know i do really recommend it i think it's a great piece for anyone but just for our listeners do be warned there is some like mature and depressing content i would say yeah but uh that's what makes it nice i was an artistically
i felt more freer than i had ever felt and okay so uh we're you you got that but i was uh i wasn't even in the right planet yeah i wasn't in the right galaxy okay i think i'm meeting you today and last time you definitely beat me soundly so okay okay yeah today you are you're you're crushing it um do
you know your podcasting partners pet peeves or something that annoys them um uh i know one for you okay i think when people like ask you to borrow certain stuff oh yeah that's pretty good i would agree with that yeah like um like something that's really something that's like really sentimental or something
like that yeah or like something that you really value or that's like really expensive whatever and you know that person's not really like the type to take care of it yes that is a huge pet peeve of mine I would I'll give you that point because um and again don't lend it to don't never lend something
that that you're that you can't um accept losing or having broken you know is there's gratitude in there too because it's it is a um yeah i think so many people sometimes they get like kind of um they can't say no you know yeah they're like afraid to say no and then and then they bar they lend it to
somebody and uh it gets damaged and they really are upset and it's like hey man that's on you not on the other person you know right because you can't you put yourself in that situation and ultimately exactly exactly boundaries are okay it's okay to make boundaries um what bothers you i think i mean this one
i know is is going to be like um i know you're going to agree with it but i'm not sure if it's like your your biggest pet peeve but it's like i think you hate like being like gas lit you know gaslighting that one gets me bad how did you know that i guess maybe we've talked about it at some point but yeah
it it's it's uh i don't like being invalidated it really bothers me yeah yeah yeah i think yeah because it's like especially when you know the right thing and someone is telling you when someone's telling you you know left is right black is good and so i i but i do feel nostalgic about that i sometimes
feel yeah it really grinds my gears um and i think they used to argue more with people like this and then i realized like that's like they're baiting you you know as i've gone all around like you're just baiting they want this reaction they're trying to fight because they get like they get satisfaction yeah
they get satisfaction they get like emotional energy from you which is what they want they want to suck the joy out of things for you and they like thrive on the chaos of of intense emotional reactions that they provoke in other people and they may not be even be aware of it they're just that's like
how they're wired to operate kind of like in the chaos and they enjoy that and i so as i've gotten older i've just kind of learned to be like okay that person's like that but it still gets on my nerves so i'll give you that one okay okay all right all right and i would say um advice like life advice
uh avoid those people that cut those people out of your life you know whenever you don't need those people because they they're not your real one either they enjoy actually of seeing you suffer which definitely makes them not a good person to be around it's the opposite of a friend my time that i i
spent in thailand and if i were to leave korea i'm sure i would get i would suffer a lot huge either because when you need like support or you need things in your life that a normal friendship or relationship should be able to offer those people can't offer that because they don't they're not wired
to operate that way they don't have it and i think what they're doing is testing you all the time it's like how far can i push you and you'll still be my friend and and there but it's it comes from a very deep insecurity in their own uh self -esteem like they're they don't have any self -esteem and they're
they're basically um vampires you know they're gonna they're gonna suck yours uh away and uh yeah avoid those people um life is too short
