Welcome to the A to Z EnglishPodcast.
My name is Jack and I'm here with my co-hostsocial.
And today we're going to do some funny quizquestions.
And so I'm going to ask social somequestions.
She's going to askme, they're kind ofsilly, but I think it'll be funto, youknow, see what our answersare.
Andso, social, the first one is if you could teach adog, yourdog,Dwende, to do one humanthing, what would itbe?
Jack that one'shard. Because initially I want tosay, I want to teach him tospeak.
But I think I would getannoyed.
Like you love him todeath, but he's like he's a little puppy and he has a lot of energy so he'd just be talking my earoff.
Like how little kidsdo, youknow.
What'sthis? What'sthis?
What'sthis? What'sthis?
You're likeconstantly.
You'relike,ah, so youknow, but youknow, it's between teaching him how to talk and this is kind of a cheatinganswer, but I'd like to teach him to beself-sufficient.
That way I could just like go on trips without having to worry abouthim.
Yeah. Welike, he can feed himself and get himself water and take himself out for a walk orwhatever.
If that waspossible, Iwould, that would be great if he could just beself-sufficient.
And that just kind of that and itgoes, it's kind of cheating because it involves a lot of human things under oneumbrella.
Yeah, but I just picture him sitting on the sofa like a human with like the remote control in his paw is just kind of slipping through thechannels, looking for anything with dogs onTV.
Yeah, because there's some shows he actually likes towatch.
I think I was watchinglike,uh, Safian Nagar the other day that's a YouTuber and he was really intently watching theshow.
So that'sweird.Yeah, there's some things he reallylikes.
I think he likes Safia and I don'tknow, thereyeah, there's some things he seems to like more thanothers.
I still haven't figured out the pattern yet with my otherdog.
He liked withMelcy, which is a dog that my family had before I hadDwende.
He liked the walkingdead.
Oh, what does thatmean?
I don'tknow. He seemed to like the walking dead and he'd like to watch the the show with like a dog in ittoo.
He would watch that like whenever we watchedit.
He would sit down and watchit.
But other shows seem to bore him reallyquickly.
Soyeah, I think if if I could teach him to beself-sufficient, that's kind of what I woulddo.
Yeah,yeah.Oh,Jack, how are yourdog?
Oh, saygood.Oh,no,yeah.
Mike, I was going to say the same thing that yousaid.
I was going to say like I wanted to teach my dog tospeak, but actually I don't want my dog to talkbecause, youknow, she might never stoptalking, youknow, it's like it could be like a blessing and then it turns into acurse, youknow, like you be careful what you wishfor.
I would teach I would love her to be able to use atoilet.
I knew you were going to saythat.
I waslike, I knew you were going to say that because she has thatissue.
She kind of poops and pees all over thehouse, right?
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I would just love for her to just like go in the bathroom and jump up on thetoilet, use the bathroomflush.
Andyeah, that would beamazing.
That would beamazing. So huge convenience forus.
Yeah.Yeah, that'd begreat.
Thatyeah, Dwayne DeKind already does that since he like just goes in the bathroom if he can't getoutside.
Which just makes it really easy to pickup.
So I don't really have to worry abouthim.
Yeah,yeah.Yeah. Let's doit.
I've got another onehere.
This one is kind ofinteresting.
Like what's your silliest selfieface?
Or do you do you have a selfieface?
I don't know if I have a selfieface.
I think one time when I was like 14 or something thatthe, what's thatcalled?
The duck lips trend wastrending.
And my sister and her friend who were like two to three years older thanme, they were like 16 or17.
I want to take a picture withme.
And we all did like the duck lipstrend.
And people don't know you'll kind of purse your lips and make this like duck face kindof.
They think it's the idea is that it makes your lips lookbigger, right?
Yeah, like it's like a powderyface.
It was supposed to becute, Iguess, way back in theday.
I don'tknow. I think we're making fun of the trend when we didit.
So we already knew it wassilly.
But some people did itunironically.
Like some people really thought it made them lookcuter.
So I don'tknow. Butyeah, that's probably that probably is number one forme.
How aboutyou,Jack? This is reallyembarrassing.
I'm disclosing too much informationhere.
But I had a period of time where I used to make a mirrorface.
I had a mirror face where I did something weird with my mouth every time I looked in themirror.
And I didn't know that I had thishabit.
And I don't know what I can't explainit.
But someone called me out on it at onepoint.
It was really embarrassing forme.
And then I realized all the time that I was doingthis.
I don'tknow. I'd push my bottom lip out with my tongue a little bit to maybe make my face a little bit more what I thought was moreattractive, more handsome orsomething.
I don'tknow. It was a very strangehabit.
I would do thattoo, actually, with the tongue on the bottomlip.
And then I would alsoraise.
I didn't know what I was doingeither.
I would raise my eyebrowsup.
Oh,okay. Soyeah, there's different variations ofthis.
Myfriend, the friend that called me out onit, she'slike, she caughtme.
I remember walking into anoffice.
I remember this vividly because it was sohumiliating.
And she was on the inside of theoffice.
And I was on theoutside, but the glass was reflective from myperspective, my point ofview.
And so when I caught a glimpse of my face in thewindow, I did the mirror face justreflexively.
And she'slike,oh, you have a mirrorface, youknow, or something like that orwhatever.
And I'mlike, what? What are you talkingabout?
I didn't doanything. I just deniedit, youknow.
And then she'slike, I do this totally weird face when I look in themirror.
She told me she does the samething.
But at least she does it in the privacy of her ownhome.
I was doing it inpublic.
And I really had to like tamp itdown, youknow, like make a conscious effort to stop doingthat.
And what I realized is that we to look good in pictures is all about youreyes.
You smile with youreyes.
We don't smile with ourmouth.
Imean, obviously our mouth does turnupward.
But it's actually the eyes is what makes a goodsmile.
And so when I when I learnedthat, I was I make I make a real point to likereally, it's really smile with my eyes when I take aphoto.
And it seems to help like the photos are better when I smile with myeyes.
It looks morenatural, youknow, as opposed to this like weirdbasically, it's just a basically I was doing the duck lipsthing, youknow, a different version ofit.
Andyeah, I was reallyembarrassing.
Yeah, that wasfunny.Yeah.
Let's seehere. What's another one wegot?
Let's do onemore.Um,yeah, what'sthe?
Let's seehere. Let me find a betterone.
What's the weirdest thing you've evereaten?
I shouldn't ask you this right now because you have food poisoning as you mentioned earliertoday.
Right.Yeah. The weirdest thing I've ever eatenthough.
Ah, that's a that's a really hardone.
I'm an I'm an adventurous eater and anytime I travel to acountry, I'll eatanything.
So I remember when I went toChina, it was it was a group of students because we were going through the Confucius Institute and whatever they would serveus.
I mean this other kidAdam, I think his namewas, would be the first to tryanything.
Um, and the otherstudents, youknow, they were kind of morepicky, which annoyedme.
I'm I get kind of irritated by pickyeaters.
I'm a pet peeve of mine aswell.
Like I really hatethat.
It's like some people eat likechildren, youknow, it's like you're going to eat mac and cheese every day for the rest of yourlife.
Imean, comeon.Yeah, or they'll be like really rude about other culturesfood, which I don't geteither.
So,um, I don't so I remember this one that I tried waslike, it was lotusroot, but it was in some kind of presentation where it wascold.
And it tasted like it tasted like coldchapstick.
I don't know if it was justthough, I think it was just the the dish that I had and the way it wasprepared.
I'm sure lotus root isdelicious, but it was it was just really weird to me because it tasted it really the way that it was prepared in that specificplace.
Tastes like coldchapstick.
It was veryweird.Um, and that was positive side and your lips were super moist afterthat.
Yeah, moisturized forsure.
Right. So I think that wasprobably,uh, kind of upthere.
And then I guess number two would probably be in inMexico, we eatinsects, youknow, someinsects.
Um, so I've had things that I guess Americans would considerweird.
Like,uh, we use the worm on themagae, which is a type of cactus used to producealcohol.
We use it to make salt like wormsalt.
Mmhmm. We eat that on orangewedges.
Um, as a we eat that on orangewedges, like kind of as asnack, Iguess, or people do when theydrink, like after theydrink, they eat one ofthose, but when I was akid, I would just my parents would order a drink and then I would just eat the orange wedges with a wormsalt.
Yeah,yeah.Yeah. And sothose,uh, that was reallytasty.
Ididn't, I had no idea that it was made with the worms atall.
Um, it has a pretty redcolor, which comes from theworms.
Andthen,uh,crickets, which we also eat here inMexico.
Um, I'm not a fan ofcrickets.
They have like a very erbyflavor.
Yeah. Which makes me not really likethem, but I have eaten them multiple times because it's prettypopular,um, to include in many dishes inwahaka.
And it's the lastone, I know we were just gonna doone, but here I guess starting off is the chiquatanamole.
Moleis, it's basically just a sauce and the base of thissauce.
And you can also use them in salsa's or just fried upis,uh,this, these flyingants, they only come out during a certain season after like the firstrains.
Yeah.Um, and they kind of fall out and I guess they're supposed like hatch their eggs in the dirt orsomething, but some of them get lost and people harvest themup.
Um, and you kind of toast them up and use them in salsa's or mollus and you can also just eat them with lime andsalt.
And I've had them in molebefore.
Um,again, it's kind ofa, it's an interestingflavor.
It's very hard toexplain.
It's like a little earthy and a little floral and a little bitherbaceous.
Um,yeah.Interesting.
Cause I like fried crickets when I lived inThailand, that was verycommon.
Likethey, they, they eat insects there in thecountry.
Um, theEson,uh, provincearea.
Um,and,um, butthey, they, they fry them in oil and then saltthem.
Is that how it's preparedin?
Yeah. So that's exactly how they're preparedhere.
They'relike, they look like baconbins.
They're really crispedup.
Yeah. There's a great source ofprotein.
Yeah. They're supposed to be reallyhealthy.
It's like the meat of the future orsomething.
But I'm a huge fan ofthem.
They're a little bit herby because they only eat likeherbs, youknow, sothey, they tastevery, or be the only like grass andherbs.
So theyhave, like, cricket flower is a thingnow.
You can buythat. It's like a healthier proteinflower.
Yeah. And you can use it to like make pancakes andstuff.
Ihad,yeah. Andworm, wormflower, somethingtoo.
You can use like make worm cake and worm pancakes andstuff.
It's,yeah. Silkworm is popular inKorea.
It's calledBundegi.Oh,yeah.
Yeah. But, but thesmell, youknow, I've never eaten it because it'sjust,um, it's notmy, it's not mything.
Youknow, it's not myjam.
That's your wife youhave?
Yeah. She lovesBundegi.
Lovesit.Yeah. But she doesn't eat itoften.
But ifit, ifit, if it comesup, it'slike,Oh, what asurprise.
Youknow, like,um, if you're in a bar or something and there's a side dish and it might beBundegi.
Andso, youcan, you can getthat.
Um, does your daughter eatit?
My daughterwould,uh,is, has such a phobia of insectsthat,um, I think the idea of Bundegi mightjust,um, she wouldneed, she would almost faint if I even brought up the idea of ittoo.
That's,dang, that's socrazy.
I, I think it's kind of easy to have a phobia of insects in Korea because when I wasthere,I, I never once saw an insect in myapartment.
Oh, on the 17thfloor. So I guess that's probablywhy.
Um, but I like never once oninsect.
And I saw a roach like one time and then there werespiders.
There were these like big black spiders that were to kind ofairy.
You know what I'm talkingabout.
Yeah. Ithink, I don't know if it's like a brown recluseor,um, they also have garden spiders that look absolutelyterrifying, but they're quiteinnocent.
They're, they're notvery, they're notdangerous.
Yeah, they're spinning black spiders and they only come out during a certainseason.
And they all like flocked to like the rooftop of differentplaces.
Likethey're, they were all over the 7-Eleven that was outside of my apartmentbuilding.
Yeah. Afunny, funny quicks aside here or astory.
Um, many times this hashappened, butI'll, I'll be in my office and then I hear a blood curdling scream come from the otherroom.
And Ithought, youknow, intruder, youknow, someone's broken into our house is attacking myfamily.
I run overmy, it's my daughter islike, there's abug.
Youknow, like just a tinylittle, littlebug.
And I have to killit, youknow, because also you kill it forher.
I kill it forher.Yeah. That'snice.
My dad was only verymean.
He'd belike,ah,toughin'up.
Yeah, doyourself. Doyourself.
Nosport. I wasn't spoiled atall.
SoI, I'm still scared ofbugs, but, youknow, I kind of haveto, have to toughen up because my dad wasright.
Actually, he mighthave, youknow, forme,I'm, what's gonna happen when my daughter has to kill her ownbugs?
That's gonna betough, youknow.
You'll get to iteventually.
I think when I movedout, because my mom would still kill some bugs forme.
Solike, I would see what I could get away with when my dad wasn't around to meet my mom killbugs.
But, youknow, when I moved away and when I moved toMexo, especially when they were like centipedes and all theseother, like tons of insects because of others like moretropical.
And I eventually just learnedto, youknow, toughen up and kill themall.
But one I have a really hard time with still arebroaches.
I'mreally, I have a phobia ofroaches, but when to killthem.
Oh,yeah. Hejust, he likes to flip them over on their back and then let them die thatway.
Oh,nice.Okay.Yeah. Roaches are theworst.
I hateroaches. I hatethem.
Yeah.Yeah. They're socreepy.
Oh, they'reawful. They'reawful.
What does big longantennas?
Oh,yeah. Can they're likebig?
Oh, and some of them fly inMexico.
It's like theworst. What is what is the weird thing you've ever eatenthough?
Now we're just talking aboutbugs.
Yeah. I don'tknow. Imean, I think the weirdest thing I've ever eaten is probably froglegs.
Youknow, I have eaten alligator beforetoo, but it was like deep friedalligator, which I think ischeating.
Imean, you could deep fry anything and it would tastegood, youknow.
Yeah, that'strue. I've deep fried alligatortoo, and I really likedit.
I didn't even think of it because it was sotasty.
I made it myself and it just kind of tastes like a mix between chicken and whitefish.
Yeah,exactly.Oh,nice.
I've always saidchicken, but it's not exactly likechicken.
It'slike, it flakes the way that white fishdoes.
Yes,exactly,exactly.
Like caught orsomething.
It's like a mix between chicken andcod.
Yeah, the way it kind of stacks onitself.
There's slices or something it'shard.
Yeah, itflakes. It's likeflaking.
Flakes.Yeah, itflakes, but it has a meatier bite likechicken.
Yeah, Imean, frog legs are just little tinywings.
That's all itis, really, because those are chickenwings.
Like chickenwings. Little tiny chickenwings.
There's not a lot of meat onit, but Imean, you get a nicelittle, youknow, the thigh is prettynice.
It's like a tasty littlesnack.
It's not something I would seek outagain, but at thetime, youknow, when inRome, do as the Romansdo.
So I ate it and I enjoyedit.
It wasfine.Yeah.Yeah, that'scool.
I've never tasted froglegs.
I have hadsnail, which I wasn't a huge fanof.
It was just kind of chewy andbland.
Yeah, yeah. Imean, that's why inFrance, theyjust, youknow, drenched it in butter and garlicsauce, youknow, it'slike, it's not something you mighteat, youknow, just just byitself.
But if you put it in garlicbutter, youknow, then, then escargot is prettygood.
It's not thatterrible.
It's a little bit rich forme.
Ijust, it's toomuch.Yeah.
Yeah. It'sdefinitely, it can beoverwhelming.
Yeah. Allright,students.
