Woo! out your pencils and a fresh sheet of parchment for Tinker Class is about to begin.
Welcome back to Tinker Class, our hands-on crash course in Science Fun 101 for the science seekers and inventoritos of tomorrow.
And what a week of thinking and tinkering we've had.
We identified problems to solve.
We explored how inspiration from animals could lead us to solutions.
We designed, we created, we tested, and now it's time to share and reflect.
Yesterday, we asked you to share your findings of the week with us.
And here's what you had to say. message telling us all about your project.
Hi Mindy and Guy Roz.
My name is Charles from Maryland.
My Tinker Class project is that I was inspired by a hedgehog for biomimicry to make a jacket that no one can tag me when I'm playing tag.
So I've been collecting sticks to attach onto my jacket that no one can get me.
I'll be invincible!
Say hi, it's Reggie for me.
Woohoo!
Trash Machine 2.0.
The Trash Machine 2000.
The Trash Machine Beta.
Alright, so we have these sensors and this lure, which is actually a light, to look for trash in the depths of the ocean.
And we have this tail to smack it.
And when it finds trash, it'll open its mouth, swallow it and, since it's a trash compactor, it will compact the trash and poop it out here.
No anglerfish were harmed in the making of this video.
Hi, Mandy and Guy Raz.
I'm Sarah from Virginia.
And my Tinker Clip project is inspired by a kangaroo for its pouch.
And I'm going to take my backpack and I'm going to put it backwards on my front and then put my baby sister in it.
And then we can bounce around.
Thank you.
Bye.
Unbelievable!
Nice work, Inventoritos.
We're going to end this first week of Tinker Class by reflecting on what we discovered and learned.
Think about how the materials you used in your design mimicked an animal characteristic or behavior.
And think about how many more testing trials you might need to perfect your design.
And finally, consider how your findings in this project could lead to a solution to an even bigger problem.
And meet us back here on Monday for a whole new week of Tinker Class.
Tinker Class is brought to you with help from our steam mates Chrissy Brownson and Heather Whitus, and produced by Jed Anderson.
Meredith Halpern-Ranzer powers the wow at Tinkercast.
