And now it's story time.
Over the hill and round the bend you'll find a large roundhouse called Tidmouth Sheds, where five little engines sleep soundly at night.
Wake in the morning as the sun shines its light.
They all have work to do and cargo to tow.
For this happy crew, it's all engines go.
Today's story is all about making wishes.
It's called Thomas and the Magic Lamp.
Once upon a time, On the island of Sodor, Thomas went to the old mine to collect some heavy rocks.
He groaned as he pulled them up a steep track.
Thomas went deeper and deeper to collect the next load.
The old mine grew darker and darker.
When he reached the bottom he could barely see a thing.
What was that?
Thomas wondered as he came to a stop.
He'd bashed into something which tumbled off the track.
It started to glow and Thomas could see it was an old oil lamp.
The lamp started to shake and hiss.
Suddenly a swirling plume of steam rose into the air and formed into...
A steam engine.
A steam engine made of steam.
Thomas' mouth fell open.
Who, um, I mean, what are you? said Thomas, amazed.
I am the engine of the lamp.
It boomed once more.
And it's a magic lamp.
And you have set me free.
And for that, I shall grant you five wishes.
Magic?
Wishes?
Really? laughed Thomas.
Well, for starters, how about I wish for these heavy trucks to take themselves to the docks?
He joked.
Your wish is my command. said the engine of the lamp, and with a puff of steam, poof!
The trucks detached themselves from Thomas, clank, and magically rolled up the steep track.
Trucks that pull themselves? thought Thomas.
How awesome is that?
So, with the magic lamp safely stowed in his cab, Thomas raced off up the slope and out of the old mine.
Thomas wondered what to wish for next.
Just then, Kana, the super-fast electric engine, came past.
Hi, Thomas.
Last one to the maintenance yard is a rusty rail spike.
Kana called knowing how much Thomas liked to race.
That's it, said Thomas.
That's what I'll wish for, a super-powered rocket engine.
That way, I can beat Kana for a change. at which the engine of the lamp's voice boomed out.
Your wish is my command.
And suddenly, poof!
There was a puff of steam and Thomas suddenly had a rocket engine strapped to his back.
Kaboom! went the rocket engine as it burst with flames.
Whoosh! went Thomas as he flew off at high speed.
Soon, Kana came into his sights.
See ya, rusty rail spike!
Thomas yelled as he shot past her into the maintenance yard.
Kana went to congratulate him, but Thomas was too puffed up to notice.
I'm the fastest engine!
I'm the fastest engine!
Thomas boasted as he whizzed off past her.
Kana was shocked.
That wasn't very friendly, she thought.
Thomas was now on a roll.
Wish number three coming right up, he said excitedly.
But what?
Next, Thomas approached Tidmouth Sheds.
He couldn't possibly fit in there now, he thought.
Not with his new rocket engine.
And besides, the fastest engine on Sodor should have his own shed.
That's it, he announced.
I wish for a super shed.
And at once the engine of the lamp spoke out.
Your wish is my command.
And poof!
There was a puff of steam and standing before Thomas was the most magnificent engine shed ever to be seen.
It had its own golden turntable and was a shed fit for a king.
Just then, Percy came past, ringing his lucky bell.
Wow!
A new shed?
Where's my spot? he asked.
You can't sleep here, Percy.
This is my shed, for me and my lucky magic lamp, said Thomas.
Percy was surprised.
That wasn't very kind, he thought.
Lucky magic lamp?
Huh!
He can keep his shed all to himself and I'll stay with my real friends at Tidmouth Sheds.
Thomas wondered what to wish for next.
He took a spin on his new turntable.
Whee!
Totally awesome!
If only there were more turntables and loop-de-loops on the railway, he thought.
That's it!
That's what I'll wish for!
Make the whole of the railway into a ginormous rollercoaster!
Once again, the engine of the lamp spoke out.
Your wish is my command.
And with that, poof!
There was a puff of steam and before Thomas lay the greatest roller coaster ever to be seen.
Thomas gazed in wonder.
Super duper loop-de-looper!
Here I come!
He fired up his rocket engine.
Kaboom! and zoomed off up the first climb.
However, things were not so super-duper for the other engines as they carried on with their jobs.
Or tried to.
Nia turned a corner only to find herself plummeting down a sudden drop.
And Kana nearly flew off the track on the coaster's tight curves.
One by one, his friends complained, but Thomas didn't want to hear any of it.
He roared away and wondered what he could possibly wish for next.
What about being able to fly?
Imagine that, flying above the clouds and swooping down through rocky canyons.
And then, what about going underwater?
He could swim with dolphins and discover lost cities.
So many fun adventures I could take, Thomas thought to himself.
But which one?
There is only one, boomed the engine of the lamp.
One what? asked Thomas.
One wish.
You have only one wish left, said the engine.
Oh no!
If Thomas only had one left, he would have to make it the most absolutely awesome wish ever.
But what?
Thomas!
Look out! yelled Percy, coming off a corkscrew towards him.
Thomas tried to put on his brakes, but it was too late.
Crunch! went his buffer plate as he bashed into Percy, knocking him off the track.
Blat! went Percy as he landed in a pool of sloppy mud.
Thomas felt sad.
I'm sorry, Percy.
I was thinking about my final wish and, well, I suppose I wasn't looking where I was going.
No, you weren't, said Percy.
Truth is, you haven't been thinking about anyone except yourself since you found that silly lamp.
You're right, Percy, said Thomas.
I've been so caught up in my own wishes, I haven't thought about anyone else's.
And that's when Thomas realised what to do with his final wish.
He wished for everything to be put back to how it was to start with.
Upon which the engine of the lamp spoke one final time.
Your wish is my command.
And with that, there was a puff of steam.
And poof!
Thomas' rocket engine, his super shed and his roller coaster vanished.
Even the heavy trucks pulling themselves came to a sudden stop.
Thomas smiled.
You know what, Purse? he said.
When I think of it, Sodor is pretty magical anyway.
Percy and Thomas laughed.
Thomas helped Percy onto the track and went back to Tidmouth Sheds where Thomas made friends with the other engines again and they all lived happily ever after.
