📋 Summary

Three Chilling Tales of Horror and Obsession

This podcast episode features three distinct stories centered on the "Strange, Dark and Mysterious," each culminating in a disturbing and unexpected conclusion. These narratives explore the depths of human depravity, the pursuit of fame through darkness, and the tragic consequences of profound isolation.

After the Riot: A Cannibalistic Nightmare

In October 2016, a prison in Venezuela became the site of a horrific tragedy. Following a month-long lockdown caused by a gang uprising led by the notorious murderer Dorangel Vargas, a man named Juan Sr. sought answers regarding his missing son, Juan Jr.

Upon meeting an inmate who witnessed the chaos, Juan Sr. learned a harrowing truth. During the riot, Vargas maintained order by controlling food supplies. When Juan Jr. was coerced into assisting with food distribution, he was told that he himself was the "food." Vargas and his gang beat, butchered, and fed Juan Jr. to the other inmates. Despite eyewitness accounts, the Venezuelan government denied the cannibalism, and Vargas was never held accountable for this specific crime, leaving the victim's family without justice.

Falling Treasure: The Shaman’s Deadly Ambition

In 1993, a Malaysian politician named Maslin Idris sought to reclaim his waning political power by hiring a famous pop-singer-turned-shaman, Mona Fandi. Maslin believed Mona possessed the supernatural ability to bestow riches and influence upon him. During a ritual in a room covered in flower petals, Maslin was instructed to close his eyes and visualize gold raining from the sky.

While Maslin was in this vulnerable, meditative state, Mona murdered him with an axe. It was revealed that Maslin was merely her eighth victim. Mona, obsessed with fame, used these ritualistic murders to fuel her own notoriety. Even during her murder trial, she treated the courtroom like a "red carpet," maintaining her fame until her eventual execution. Her final words, "I'll never die," epitomize the dark ego that drove her to kill.

A Son's Nightmare: The Loneliness of the Outcast

In a remote Chinese village, a man named Yang, who lived with a disability that made speech nearly impossible, was found to be keeping the corpses of five elderly women in his home. The investigation began when a local farmer experienced recurring nightmares about his mother's body disappearing from her grave.

Police discovered that Yang, who had been treated as an outcast his entire life, had found comfort and acceptance in these women. When they died of natural causes, he could not bear the loneliness; he exhumed their bodies and brought them to his cave-like home, caring for them as if they were still alive. While his actions were deeply disturbing, the story highlights the tragic intersection of mental illness and the desperate human need for connection. Yang was eventually sent to a psychiatric hospital, and the bodies were returned to their resting places, ending the farmer's torment.
