Listen all around Listen for the sounds Listen, listen, listen Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
Hello.
Listen, everyone.
Listen and play.
Where are we today?
Tell us, where are we?
We're on a riverbank a long way away in Africa.
It's very hot here.
What makes this sound?
Listen.
It's a river.
Bubble, bubble goes the river as it runs through the African plains.
Listen and play again.
Can you guess what this sound is?
I'll give you a clue.
You find them in rivers in Africa.
They have big snapping jaws and knobbly skin.
Listen.
It's some baby crocodiles.
That strange sound is the noise that baby crocodiles make.
Listen again.
Do you know what makes this sound?
It's a fire.
Spit, spat, crickle, crackle.
It's the sound of a fire burning.
It's so hot here that fires can start very easily because all the leaves and twigs are so dry.
Today's song is about putting out a fire.
It's called Fire is Burning.
Join in with me and make the sound of the fire.
Crickle, crackle.
Ready?
Fire is burning.
Fire is burning.
Crickle, crackle.
Crickle, crackle.
Fire, fire.
Fire, fire.
Pour on water.
Pour on water.
Fire is burning, fire is burning.
Crickle, crackle, crickle, crackle.
Fire, fire, fire, fire.
Pour on water, pour on water.
Fire is burning, fire is burning.
Crickle, crackle, crickle, crackle.
Fire, fire, fire, fire.
Pour on water, pour on water.
Listen, listen, listen, it's rhyme time.
Here's a rhyme about a crocodile that swims in the rivers of Africa.
If you should meet a crocodile, don't take a stick and poke him.
Ignore the welcome in his smile.
Be careful not to stroke him.
For as he sleeps upon the Nile, he thinner gets and thinner.
And whene'er you meet a crocodile, he's ready for his dinner.
Listen, listen, listen, it's storytime.
There's a crocodile in today's story too, as well as some greedy rabbits who try to trick him.
It's an old story from Africa.
Shh!
Listen, listen.
The story's called... The Rabbits and the Crocodile.
Once upon an African time, long, long ago, there lived a crocodile.
In those days, the crocodile's back was green and smooth, and he loved to feel the hot sun on his skin.
All day he lay in a field and slept.
It so happened that this was in his favourite field, full of lovely lettuces.
Not that the crocodile liked lettuces.
Oh no!
It was just that he knew that rabbits liked lettuces.
And the crocodile loved rabbits.
He was also good at hiding.
So when they came to eat the lettuces, The crocodile ate the rabbits.
Along hopped the rabbits.
Hop, hop, hop.
And snap went the crocodile.
Snap, snap, snap.
The sneaky crocodile.
One day, the rabbits got together and tried to think of a way they could get the lettuces.
A small grey rabbit with a fluffy tail said, let's hop as quietly as we can.
The others cheered, an excellent plan.
So that's what they did.
They took little, tiny, gentle baby rabbit hops.
Shhh.
Along hopped the rabbits.
Hop, hop, hop.
It was an excellent plan.
But the crocodile was an excellent listener and he heard them.
So snap went the crocodile.
Snap, snap, snap.
The sneaky crocodile.
So the rabbits tried to think of another way they could get the lettuces.
A brown rabbit with rather large feet said, while he's sleeping, we'll eat what we can.
The others cheered, an excellent plan.
So that's what they did.
They waited until they heard the sound of the crocodile snoring.
And then they set off.
Along hopped the rabbits.
Hop, hop, hop.
It was an excellent plan.
But the crocodile was an excellent pretender.
And he was only pretending to be asleep.
So snap went the crocodile.
Snap, snap, snap.
The sneaky crocodile.
Once more, the rabbits tried to think of yet another way they could get the lettuces.
A white rabbit with very floppy ears said, Let's dress ourselves up as a man.
The others cheered.
An excellent plan.
So that's what they did.
Each rabbit balanced one on top of another until they were as high as a man.
Then they put on some old bits of sack as clothes.
Next, they balanced a large pumpkin on the top to look like a head.
One rabbit even held an old bottle to make it look like he was on a picnic.
Along hopped the rabbits.
Hop, hop, hop.
It was an excellent plan.
But the crocodile had an excellent memory and he knew what a man was like.
And a man didn't hop, hop, hop across the grass.
So snap went the crocodile.
Snap, snap, snap.
The sneaky crocodile.
Now that he knew the lettuces were safe, the crocodile settled down to sleep in the lovely warm sun.
But the rabbits had dropped the bottle and it had fallen on the grass.
And it wasn't long before the strong sun shone through it, and because the grass was so dry, it soon started a fire.
Crackle, crackle, crackle.
The rabbits were frightened and shouted, fire, fire.
But the crocodile thought they just wanted to get rid of him so they could eat the lettuces.
So he didn't take any notice.
Eventually, the crocodile's tail began to catch fire.
Crackle, crackle, crackle.
He yelled and slithered out of the field and down to the river, where he dived in with an enormous splash and a But when the crocodile looked at his tail and his back, he saw that his skin was no longer smooth, but knobbly and bobbly.
So he stayed in the river to cool down, so no one could see his knobbly back and where he knew he couldn't catch fire ever again.
Luckily, the flames quickly died down and the rabbits were able to hop happily and safely into the field.
Hippity hop, hippity hey, we've made the crocodile run away, they cried.
The greedy rabbits gobbled up all the lettuces.
And they were never bothered by the sneaky crocodile ever, ever again.
And when I sing I-O, I-O, I-O, snap your hands together like the crocodile's jaws.
Ready?
Look at the sneaky crocodile.
I-O, I-O, I-O.
He's swimming down the river Nile.
I-O, I-O, I-O.
The crocodile has a swishing tail.
I-O, I-O, I-O.
He swims along and leaves a trail.
I-O, I-O, I-O.
The crocodile has two great big jaws.
I-O, I-O, I-O.
The crocodile has two great big claws.
I-O, I-O, I-O.
See, his jaws are open wide.
I-O.
Oh no, he's not.
He's gone the other way.
You might like to try singing that crocodile song again later.
And see if you can make up some other actions to show what the crocodile does.
Join me again soon when we can listen and play together.
Bye!
Listen, listen, listen.
