📋 Summary

The Golden Flask: A Journey of Heart and Bravery

The Emperor’s Plight

The story begins with a powerful emperor who possesses immense wealth—"gold, silver, jewels"—but suffers from profound sadness due to his son, the young prince, who is "very sick" and "frail." Despite summoning the best doctors, the boy’s health continues to decline. In his despair, the emperor is visited by a "giant condor," the "largest flying bird in the world," which reveals that the prince can be healed by the sacred water from a "magic lake at the end of the world."

The Test of Character

The condor warns that the lake is "guarded by three fierce creatures" and can only be accessed by someone who is "pure of heart." Leaving behind a flask of "glittering gold," the bird departs. When the emperor’s initial attempts to find the water fail—and two brothers sent by a local family attempt to deceive the emperor with ordinary water—the situation grows dire. The emperor threatens to keep the brothers imprisoned unless the magic lake is found, prompting their younger sister to step forward. She demonstrates true courage by setting out on a quest to save both the prince and her brothers.

The Power of Kindness

During her journey, the young girl encounters the giant condor again while resting in the treetops. Instead of acting out of fear, she demonstrates her "heart of gold" by sharing her "roasted corn" with the ravenous bird. In return, the condor gifts her six "black and white feathers" that form a magical fan capable of protecting her and granting her wishes. This act of selfless kindness proves she is the "pure of heart" individual the condor spoke of.

Overcoming the Guardians

Upon reaching the magic lake, the girl uses the fan to navigate the three fierce guardians: a massive crab, a hulking alligator, and a colossal winged serpent. By waving the fan, she causes each beast to fall into a deep sleep, allowing her to fill the golden flask with the sacred water. Her success is not born of violence, but of the magical protection earned through her previous generosity.

A Reward of Integrity

Returning to the palace, the girl heals the prince, who immediately recovers his health. When the emperor offers her any reward, she chooses three selfless paths:

  1. Mercy: She asks for the release of her brothers, prioritizing family above all else.
  2. Prosperity: She requests a bigger farm so her family can live without having to "struggle so hard to get by."
  3. Gratitude: She asks that the fan be returned to the condor, honoring the source of her success.

The story concludes with the emperor honoring these requests. The girl returns home to her family, having learned that while material riches are common, the most valuable things in life are family and the integrity of one's own heart.
