📋 Summary

The Tragic Case of Sandy Razzo: A Calculated Conspiracy

The Initial Attempt

On the night of May 31, 2003, in a Florida bar parking lot, a "short bearded man" attempted to assassinate 37-year-old bartender Sandy Razzo. The assailant, concealed by a baseball cap and baggy clothing, fired a rifle at Sandy as she exited the Green Iguana Bar and Grill. The shooter missed, striking their own car's side mirror, and fled the scene in a panic. Sandy, unaware of the attempt on her life, continued her routine, oblivious to the fact that a dark plot had been set in motion.

The Fatal Night

On July 5, 2003, the assailant returned. After Sandy finished her shift at the Green Iguana, she returned to her townhouse. As she sat in her BMW inside her garage, the attacker—still disguised—shattered her window and fired multiple rounds into the vehicle. Sandy was mortally wounded. Her roommate, Tony Ponycall, discovered her unresponsive in the car and called 911. Despite his bizarrely calm demeanor and conflicting statements about his relationship with Sandy (referring to her as both a girlfriend and a fiancée), investigators eventually cleared Tony of direct involvement in the murder.

The Investigation and the "Mr. Clean" Connection

Detective Scott "Ski" Golcheski led the investigation. Suspicion initially fell on Tracy Humphrey, a 6'2" bald man nicknamed "Mr. Clean" due to his resemblance to the cleaning product mascot. Tracy was a former friend and fitness trainer who had previously harassed Sandy after she rebuffed his sexual advances. Tracy was physically intimidating and claimed to have been a stunt double for Vin Diesel. When interviewed, Tracy was dismissive and quickly invoked his legal rights, raising further red flags for the police.

Unmasking the Killer

Detective Ski’s investigation hit a wall when Tracy provided a solid alibi: he had been at home with his new wife, 20-year-old Ashley Humphrey, ordering pizza and renting movies at the time of the murder. However, a breakthrough arrived via the local fire department. An arson investigation into a burned Volkswagen Beetle—the same car used in the failed May shooting—led police directly to Ashley.

The Motive and Conclusion

It was revealed that Ashley Humphrey was the "bearded man" who had attempted to kill Sandy in May and succeeded in July. She had utilized a "cheap fake beard" and disguises to frame a male assailant. The motive was chilling: Tracy Humphrey had previously raped and beaten Sandy, and he was facing trial for these crimes in August 2003. To eliminate the state's primary witness, Tracy coerced his new wife, Ashley, into murdering Sandy.

Ashley was convicted of second-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison. Tracy, following testimonies from other victims of his abuse, was convicted of murder and sentenced to life behind bars. The case serves as a harrowing example of how a calculated conspiracy, born from predatory violence, attempted to silence justice, only to be dismantled by meticulous police work.
