📋 Summary

The Oklahoma Problem: A 22-Year Felony Nightmare

The podcast begins with the bizarre case of Karen Davis, a Texas resident whose life was inexplicably derailed by a clerical ghost from her past. After getting married in 2021 and attempting to update her driver's license, Karen was informed by the DMV that she had an unresolved issue involving the state of Oklahoma. This led her to contact the Norman, Oklahoma District Attorney’s office, where she discovered she had been a "wanted felon" for 22 years.

The root of this "Oklahoma problem" was a trivial incident involving a rented VHS copy of Sabrina the Teenage Witch. Karen’s former roommate had used her library card to rent the movie and failed to return it. While most video stores would simply charge late fees, the "Movie Place" in Norman chose to press charges for felony embezzlement against the cardholder—Karen. Because she was never notified, she remained unaware of the warrant, which consistently flagged her during criminal background checks, causing her to be rejected for jobs or fired without explanation for over two decades. The charges were finally dismissed after she brought the clerical error to the DA's attention.

The Dark Room: A Near-Autopsy Awakening

The second story recounts the harrowing experience of Carlos Camejo, a Venezuelan man who was involved in a motorcycle accident in 2007. Pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, Carlos was transported to the morgue. He regained consciousness while lying on a metal table, completely paralyzed and in total darkness. He could hear the voices of two doctors, who were preparing to perform an autopsy.

The terror escalated when he felt a sharp, metallic object piercing his chin—the doctors were stitching a wound to stop the bleeding, unaware that he was alive. As they proceeded to draw a “Y” incision on his chest, the pain became so intense that Carlos finally broke through his paralysis, his eyes shooting open to the horror of the medical staff. It was revealed that the doctors had simply been following standard procedure for a corpse. Carlos survived the ordeal, though he suffered significant emotional trauma from the realization that he had narrowly escaped being cut open while fully conscious.

The Absurd Fortune of Timothy Dexter

The final story details the life of Timothy Dexter, described as perhaps the most "absurd rags to riches" figure in history. Born in 1748, the self-proclaimed "Lord Timothy Dexter" was a functionally illiterate man whose success was driven by sheer, dumb luck rather than intellect. After marrying a wealthy widow in Newburyport, he attempted to enter politics, resulting in the town mocking him with a fake title: the "Informer of Deer." Unaware of the irony, he took the role seriously, documenting the non-existent deer population with incoherent, illiterate logbooks.

Dexter’s financial success was equally nonsensical. He invested in "continental dollar" currency when it was considered worthless, only to become rich when the government backed it after the Revolutionary War. Later, jealous aristocrats attempted to ruin him by giving him terrible investment advice, such as shipping warming pans to the Caribbean and coal to Newcastle. In each instance, external factors—such as the pans being used for molasses and a coal strike in England—turned his "disastrous" investments into massive profits. Even his attempt to fake his own death resulted in him beating his wife with a cane because she wasn't mourning him sufficiently. Dexter lived a life defined by accidental brilliance and profound eccentricity, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most improbable success stories in American history.
