Quiet on the set.
I need quiet on the set.
Welcome, my friends.
Yay!
Welcome to The Eagle's View, the podcast where Emerson students share their voices, ideas and creativity with the world.
I'm Isla, a fourth grader who loves tennis and Taylor Swift.
And I'm Ellie, a fourth grader who enjoys music.
We'll be your hosts for this episode.
In this episode, we have Michigan Foods, St.
Patrick's Day, Star Friends, computers, and Friday the 13th.
And as always, the joke of the week.
We've got so much to share.
So let's get started.
You're listening to The Eagle's View.
Awesome!
Hi, we are fifth graders, Joy, Anya, Liz, and Zora.
And we're going to be talking about St.
Patrick's Day.
St.
Patrick's Day commemorates St.
Patrick.
Ireland's patron saint and honors Irish culture, evolving from a religious feast day to a global celebration of Irish heritage, with parades being attired and shamrocks marking the anniversary of his death in 461 AD.
St.
Patrick is credited with bringing Christianity to Ireland in the 5th century, and the holiday now celebrates Irish culture and history, especially in countries with large Irish disciporas, like the United States.
Where the first parades began.
St.
Patrick wasn't Irish, but a British man captured and enslaved an island.
Who later returned to spend Christianity using the Shamrock for Trinity.
Wasn't canonized.
It's credited with driving snakes which never lived there from Ireland.
And his original name was Maven Succott before becoming Patricious.
Also, did you know that in Chicago they would dye their rivers green to celebrate St.
Patrick?
Yeah, I have seen that.
It's a big tradition that the Sissy has every year.
But how do they get the paint out after St.
Patrick's Day?
Well, they don't take the green color out of the Chicago River.
It fades away on its own.
The specialized, environmentally safe vegetable-based dye is designed to turn the water a vibrant green.
Oh, that makes sense.
Imagine they just scooped it out of the river.
Yeah, imagine.
Tell us how you are celebrating St.
Patrick's Day.
Whether you're eating 50 green cookies or making a trap to catch your leprechaun.
Tell us in the comments.
Wherever they are.
Happy St.
Patrick's Day.

Hi, I'm fifth grader Maya.
March 13th is a completely normal day in most people's perspective, but 20 million Americans and lots of others around the world think otherwise, because March 13th is Friday, the 13th.
No one knows for sure why Friday the 13th is feared, but lots of people have theories.
Lots of people think the 12th is a very significant number, so that makes 13th look bad.
Surprisingly, on Friday the 13th also affects the U.S. economy.
Some businesses lose money.
800 to 900 million dollars.
However, these fears may have been exaggerated.
In 2008, a Dutch study found that less accidents happened on Friday the 13th than other Fridays.
There were even less fires and thieves were lower on the 13th.
Maybe, after all, Friday the 13th isn't so bad.
So in next November, on our next Friday the 13th, make sure you look out for those black hats.
