okay welcome back to another video guys today we have three of the most popular and famous indonesian dishes so two meals one dessert and we're gonna be trying it using comprehensible input to describe everything but at the end we'll rate what our favorite thing was so stick around the whole video guys and let's get into it this video is also part of my 3000 most common english word series designed to help you understand up to 95 of spoken english if you want to get the 3000 most common english words pdf it's in the description please savory version of classic bags choose best to you aftertaste skewer marinated last zip ties texture of like dipping it in the sauce burn cutlery let's get started classic bags so you want to take those out yeah we'll save this for a little bit later that's the dessert this is the first place i've seen where they like zip tie the bags oh bush country yeah every bag i've seen has been like zip tied yeah so these are zip ties and they are used to like tighten things up so i've never been somewhere where they use zip ties to close the bags but in this country indonesia they do or maybe it's just in jakarta you guys can let me know So here, I think we should start with that, I guess.
Most famous.
The most well-known.
So it's in a paper bag, but inside of this paper bag is a banana leaf and they wrap it up there just to keep it warm and nice.
Look at that.
So there we go.

Look at that.
This is satay chicken.
Satay chicken saute in peanut sauce.
So there's chicken here on this skewer.
This skewer is just a very thin piece of wood that is used to hold the meat Skewer.
Okay, so let's try the saute first.
There's different proteins you can get.
What?
And the most popular one which we have here is chicken, but you could also get beef and goat. some places you could even get lamb so you're not going to find pork in indonesia or maybe in bali they're actually hindu in bali so they eat pork as well but i prefer chicken and beef over pork anyways so this is always delicious the peanut sauce you can get satay in other parts of the world but the peanut sauce they have in indonesia is the best one You can see that the stick here is burned and it broke here.
So when I was eating it, it broke.
Here we have a rice cake.
So they call this coconut rice cake.
They basically put it into a bamboo tube.
They stuff it in there.
I don't know if they blend the rice up first or not, because it does look like it.
And then they cook it with a little bit of coconut milk and they serve it like that, like a tube of rice.
But here they cut it into little pieces for us.
I think they give us a cracker too.
This is like a combo.
I thought the rice cake would be chewy, since when you say rice cake, I think about the Korean rice cakes.
Yeah, but it's more just like the exact texture of like regular rice, but in a different form.
It kind of just tastes like a potato, like the texture of a potato.
But anyways, I'm going to break this in half.
I just broke this in half.
And the way they cook satay.
Which makes it so delicious is they marinate it in like a sweeter marinade.
And then when they cook it, they cook it really hot and fast.
So that's why they have the smaller pieces here.
And by cooking it that way, it stays juicy inside.
It doesn't dry out at all.
So now we have the sauce here.
I'm taking my stick with my chicken on the end and I'm just dipping it in the sauce and turning it to get it filled with sauce.
You're coating it, right?
Yeah, I'm coating my chicken in the peanut sauce.
Now my chicken is coated.
So I'm going to take a bite and I'm going to try to get all the chicken in one bite.
And you will see in a second here I'm going to bite and then turn the stick so that the chicken comes off easier.
Let's do that.
Oh, There's a lot of satay restaurants online, so you have to just pick whichever one.
Keep trying them until you find one you really like.
Yeah, I usually just choose whatever one has the highest rating and It always turns out good.
This next dish is served in a plastic container.
The lid you can see is see-through.
You can see through the lid and it is also taped.
Here you can see that there is tape holding down the lid.
So I'm going to take the tape off or peel the tape off. and now I'm gonna take off the lid.
So as I said, guys, the lid is see-through and it's just a plastic lid.
And inside here we have chili and they also have a lemon or a lime, sorry, that they cut in half.
But this lime is very small.
It's tiny.
And it also came with rice.
Rice.
So we have rice here.
What else?
These look to be like chips, some sort of chips.
And in here, I guess is the main dish.
The soup is inside a plastic bag, which is inside this black plastic container.

Yeah, So this one's called Soto Betawi.
This soup is from Jakarta.
And here we have our cutlery inside this plastic bag.
So now I will tear it open and inside they have a spork.
I've never seen so many sporks in a country before, but i guess sporks are very popular here, actually indonesia.
The majority of people eat with their hands here, really not for a soup, obviously.
But So Leon is pouring the soup into the plastic bowl and it looks like there is meat in there with some vegetables or beef.
Yeah, it's a beef soup with coconut milk and it's super popular.
It's really rich.
It's almost like a coconut curry soup.
This is the soup.
It's still warm and it comes with rice.
So it's slightly yellow.
It has a slight yellow color.
It's not brown, but let's try it.
I can see a layer of oil on top of the soup.
You said it was coconut?
Coconut milk, yeah.
I can taste the coconut.
And one thing about me is I love rice.
You see rice?
I could eat just a bowl of rice.
Mm.
Mm.
Good rice?
Yeah, I haven't had just plain rice in a long time.
I like the regular rice, like that more than the rice cake, because you can add more salt to that or you they add more salt to that than they do with this.
So this just tastes like saltless rice which, if you know, you need salt with your rice right yeah, and this meat looks like it has a lot of cartilage, eh yeah.
So there's two different versions of this there's a mixed one and there's an all beef one.
I got the all beef one, but the mixed one comes with like organ meat and liver and lungs and stuff like that as well, but We'll try this one first.
Yeah, let's try it.
Mmm.
This really reminds me of Thai green curry, except this one is just like more of like a soup than a curry.
It's got some tomato in here as well.
But it's very similar.
They both have like that strong coconut flavor as a base.
And they're kind of like, I guess like yellowish green, the color.
They both have the same color.
Wow, that's good.
Got a lot of flavor in it.
Yeah, no, it actually is quite good.
Let's try whatever these are inside this. plastic bag.
So you guys see that?
It looks like a chip, but I'm pretty sure this is not a potato.
I think it's a prawn cracker.
It looks very good.
It's not very colorful.
It's like a beige color, a little bit like a slight yellow, slight orange, and you can hear it.
Now let's try it.
I imagine it's going to crack when I bite it.
Try that.
Try that.
Ooh.
It's water.
No, the aftertaste is really weird.
It's fishy?
No, it's like bitter.
It's like really bitter.
It's not a prawn cracker.
I'm pretty sure it's rice-based.
Actually, it is getting kind of bitter now.
No, the aftertaste is very bitter.
It's kind of like, it's weird.
I've never had anything like that.
I don't think I like it.
I like this though.
It's a good soup.
There's also another really popular soup that's eaten as a street food.
It's called Bakso and it's basically like a meatball soup.
So there's noodle in it and there's really delicious meatballs.
You can get large ones with filling inside of them or small ones that are just meat and they're mixed with a i think it's baking powder or baking soda that makes them really bouncy and chewy and addictive.
So that's a really delicious soup as well, but we tried this one instead because it's uniquely from jakarta.
Yummy, in my tummy that soup is busting, and i think they do like their soups a lot here in indonesia.
I've seen a lot of soup options as indonesian food.
Now let's try our last item of today, the dessert.
It is in a bright red and you can see through the bag.
It has some weight to it.
It is heavy.
I'm gonna tear this bag open now because the zip tie is very tight, so.
It cannot slide off.
So the name of this dessert is called Ma Ra Tabak.
Ma Ra Tabak.
It's an Arabic name.
This is the dessert.
You can get them sweet and savory, but we got a sweet one because this is our dessert.
This is huge, man.
Look at this.
And I think this is one of the better desserts in Southeast Asia.
This is massive.
It's like... What is this?
It's called a pancake, but what they do is they cook it just from the bottom, so the top side doesn't get cooked, and they put the filling on there.
In this case, we got peanut butter and chocolate and they flip it over like half a pizza and then they deliver it like that.
So
The bottom and the top has a crust, and the inside's nice and moist.
I've already rolled up this sleeve and I'm going to roll up my right or sorry, my left sleeve as well, and I'm going to grab a middle piece.
I'm going to grab a corner piece.
Wow, so there's like a lot of sauce in there.
It's wet.
Wow, yeah, my hands are going to be very sticky, but it looks...
Looks amazing.
Looks so good.
Let's try it.
Oh my god.
That's so good.
It's like a... I don't think the dough is 100% flour.
The dough has some chew to it, so it's really good.
It's super sweet, but I don't know... I think this oil is just the oil they used to fry it.
It's just a really oily dish.
I don't think it's a sauce they added on top.
But you can definitely taste the chocolate.
It's really sweet from chocolate and...
Little bit of peanuts.
I think they just use peanuts instead of peanut butter.
Wow, this is good.
It's like the best pancake you've ever had, right?
I'm going nonverbal.
It's so good.
I think this is one of my favorite desserts in Southeast Asia.
I don't think Southeast Asia does desserts that good.
They use a lot of fruit and milk and stuff.
But this right here is definitely top tier.
Get me 10 more of these right now.
And I'm pretty sure Indonesia is one of the countries where this is the most popular.
I'm sure you can probably find it in other places.
But if you want to try the original one, then you got to come to Indonesia and have it here.
Take a look at that like.
This is a heavy bite.
This has got to be like two 300 grams in this in my hand, right here, filled to the brim.
Yo shout out to all indonesians in the chat bro, let me know if you're from indonesia in the comments.
Let me know if you've had this, bro.
Oh oh, my gosh, this is insanely good.
I don't think i could eat this whole thing by myself.
This would kill you if you had it all.
How many calories do you think that is double it yeah, and for the price?
This was like 60k 70k, 73 and that's like what?
Uh, six dollars or seven dollars five no, like six, seven.
Okay guys, we just got back.
We had a quick 30 minute intermission because i ate too much, so i had to go wash my hands and just lay down on the bed.
I was, i was out, i was out of it.
Anyways, let's start cleaning up and we can talk about what our favorite thing was here out of all the things we eat and whether we would eat it again or not.
You can start.
What was your favorite thing here?
Favorite thing, and you guys answer too.
What looked the best to you.
What out of these three things would you want to try it the most?
And if you've tried it, what's your favorite?
My favorite thing has got to be the satay.
As good as this dessert was, i still prefer salty and that satay was just perfect.
Like It had a little bit of char from the grilling and the peanut sauce is just the right amount of sweetness.
That was delicious.
That was my favorite.
I think if I were to order it again, though, I would get rice instead of the rice cake.
But other than that, that was my favorite dish.
Yeah.
And for me, you guys know the answer.
This.
That was amazing, really.
This is the best thing i've had for dessert in a long time, but anyways, we're just uh, we're just cleaning up, we have our garbage bag here and uh, we're just putting all our garbage in here, since we are done eating, and i literally drank one two, two bottles.
I drank two bottles of water and yeah overall, that was really good.
One last question for you guys how would you describe the state of this water bottle, the state of it?

This water bottle is empty.
It's empty.
Why is it empty?
Because I drank all of the water.
Anyways, this is all that's left.
Three pieces of this thing.
It's been half an hour, so I could probably eat the rest of it.
Yeah, we Googled.
It wasn't oil.
It was butter.
It was butter.
That's why it was so like moist and everything.
Overall, if I had to recommend anything and you have a sweet tooth, I would recommend this.
And if you don't like sweet stuff and you prefer something savory or salty, then I would- Still get that.
Yeah.
Because you can get a savory version of this like meat and cheese inside of it.
But also the saute is very good.
Like you can't really go wrong with a saute.
It's really really good.
But I mean that soup was still delicious as well.
It was just the least delicious out of everything we had so far.
Yeah, I really did enjoy the soup.
I've had a lot of saute.
So honestly, when I ate this, I preferred the soup.
But yeah, if you guys like this type of video where we try different foods from different cultures and countries, then let us know and we can make more videos like these and also teach you guys English at the same time.
Let me know in the comments if you want more videos like this and we can make more.
Bye guys. you In this lesson, I want you to shadow.
They are in plastic bags, so you want to take those out.
So these are zip ties and they are used to like tighten things up.
Chicken here on this skewer.
This skewer is just thick here and burned and it broke here.
More just like the exact texture of like regular rice, but in a different form.
Makes it so delicious is they marinate it in like a sweeter marinade?
And on the end, and I'm just dipping it in the sauce and turning it.
Yeah, I usually just choose whatever one has the highest rating.
Here we have Our cutlery inside this.
Good rice?
Yeah, I haven't had just plain rice.
The aftertaste is really weird.
Let's try our last item of today.
I've already rolled up this sleeve, and I'm going to roll up my.
What looked the best to you?
What out of these three things?
You can get a savory version of this, like meat.
