We have arrived.
Are you guys excited?
Yes.
What are you most looking forward to on this field trip?
Catching fish.
By kicking them.
Going in really cold water.
Not having my change of clothes here.
There's going to be a blast.
We're doing some volume and velocity of the flow of the stream.
Oh, oh, double sided, I see.
Oh, this.
I want to find one of those.
Yeah, I think so.
Oh, there's a back.
Oh, so I'm not trying to put myself in this river.
That's a crayfish.
This is what's in here.
All right.
I've eaten one of those before.
We use the Vernier LabQuest to measure a number of things.
So there are, I believe, four probes in each bucket.
One of them is a conductivity probe.
Another one is a pH probe.
That.
So we can go in there.
I'm the one getting in.
I'm sorry.
We got... data to measurement, measurement to measurement to dives.
And we're gonna be going into this creek.
Say, we use the orange and measure a distance across, like like here to here, and then we float the orange and then see how long it takes to travel the distance and then like, divide by how far it went, by the time it took, and then we find stream velocity.
Yeah, but stream velocity is gonna be different in different points.
Science Do I look smarter with a pencil?
Yeah.
How many meters?
How many centimeters?
Genius.
All right.
Hey, whoa.
Human error identified.
I'm putting that in my lab report. over here.
Now we're just nine, almost six.
Why is it going up?
It's still going up.
Now we're using the instructions.
Fill a bottle with sample water, allow it to settle for two to five minutes until the particles fall to the bottom, hold it up to the light and identify the color.
Go for it.
The task is to hold this up to the light, identify the color.
It's either colorless green yellow tan, milky blue brown rust, red straw or black.
I don't know, maybe it's milky tan.
Let me know.
In the comments i'm gonna say tan ph paper.
Would you like to see it change?
Yeah, and the result works with our other, So it's six.
Yeah.
All right.
We're going to do a giveaway.
Guys, pH paper for this experiment.
So best comment and I'll send this to you in the mail.
Getting creative out here.
And I can't rock.
Maybe a leaf.
What if you lose it?
I will never lose it.
This is what we're going to do.
Place the kick screen at the downstream edge of the riffle.
Be sure that the bottom of the screen fits tightly against the stream bed so that no insects escape.
Walk three feet upstream from the kick screen.
Firmly and thoroughly rub your hands.
In 60 seconds.
Kick the stream bed with a sideways shuffling motion towards the bed and we're gonna get catching these guys.
I wanna find a crayfish.
Yeah.
What do you guys think?
Am I gonna fall down?
Let me see.
Now he's alive.
Look at this one.
He's going.
This is insane.
We should put him back and try to catch more.
Now You guys catching species?
Not yet we got fish.
We caught fish whoa okay oh, they're so cute.
That scared me so much.
Hello buddy, We have survived the crossing back over.
We're gonna go identify some creatures.
Big time catch.
Yeah, it doesn't look like a fish.
Let's see what you've been wading in.
Oh!
I think that's a wrap on the experiment.
Probably gonna eat lunch now and just chill and then go back to school.
Yeah, it's been fun.
Exposed, exposed, exposed.
Just have fun.
You really only get to live certain parts of your life once, as obvious as that may seem.
But, you know, don't get too caught up in the chaos of life.
Enjoy it, and just don't stress out too much.
This is the apes room.
And that's a wrap.
Bye.
I just filmed the whole video, but then I realized I can't publish, like the lab, without the lab results.
So thank you for watching the field trip.
I hope it was fun.
I had fun time and yeah, I can't, I need to, um, data, data.
What did we learn?
Like we went out there and we measured a bunch of stuff, but what does that actually mean?
I'll let you know.
Basically, the data that we gathered indicated that phosphate levels were between 6 and 7, which could create an algae bloom.
Therefore, the phosphate levels weren't healthy in the Eno River.
Dissolved oxygen levels on average, measured between 69 to 9, therefore indicating that there was enough oxygen to support most species of fish, which is good.
Most species are able to reproduce because the pH levels were between 553 and 7, falling in between the range of tolerance.
Also, the Eno River was observed to have few nutrients and little plant growth, therefore classified as a soft water stream.
The Eno River's amount of calcium carbonate does not fall in between the range of best hardness for an aquatic ecosystem, so not as healthy.
The conductivity of the Eno River was below the range.
It wasn't enough to support diverse aquatic life. which also isn't healthy.
Yeah, so a lot of the things about this stream were actually really unhealthy, which is unfortunate.
The environment is definitely a large topic of discussion right now, what we should do.
It's not looking good.
However, I'm optimistic and I think we can still turn this around.
I have a pretty large audience now.
We're at like 63,000 subscribers, which is just so cool.
Thank you guys for that.
It's really awesome.
It's so cool.
But I don't want to take that for granted.
And I know having so many people together as a community is really powerful and we can actually do something, make a change with that, just by being aware and conscious of the environment.
I'd like to start a connection of you guys helping out in your own environment, in your own community.
I know that there's trash in my school and just little things like that.
It might not save the earth, but it could start a chain of connections which might Just make your own ecosystem and community environment healthier.
And yeah, if we all do that, it can make the world a better place, which is awesome.
Small impacts can have large impacts on people around you in your life, which is important.
So if you use the hashtag, I love the earth and tag me, I'll repost it on my story on Instagram.
If you haven't followed me there, follow me.
I post photography videos and drone stuff, aesthetically pleasing things that you might like.
All that to say, giveaway coming soon for these hats and if you want me to like release them on like teespring, let me know i can do that.
They're embroidered, cool quality, and thank you for being here.
I appreciate you all.
It's a good day to be alive.
Don't forget to make someone smile.
Have a good day.
We're getting through this school year.
I have a ton of homework to go do.
That's gonna be okay.
Don't hesitate to ever send me a message on instagram.
I've been doing my best to respond to those And yeah, life's good.
Let's make it a better place for everyone else.
Thank you.
Bye-bye.
You're getting an interview now.
You're going to explain what you just did and why.
Do you want video proof that I did it?
Yeah, just do it again.
All right.
Any last words?
Viva la vida!
