Hello, welcome to or welcome back to Transit Care.
If you're new to this podcast, if this is the first episode that you're listening to.
Typically, my episodes are educational in a way where I give you guidance on navigating life, navigating relationships, navigating your mental health.
But there are episodes like this one where I just want to have fun.
I want it to... not be so heavy.
Like.
As much as I love showing up here and giving you advice and helping you through hard times, I also want to give you a space to come to just find comfort and feel good and help you romanticize your life and enjoy life.
So today's episode is going to be a good one, a fun one, a feel-good one, and it's It's a new series that I have introduced to my TikTok, but I also want to bring it here as well, if you like it.
Obviously, if you're like actually this sucks and none of you like it, then maybe I won't do it after this episode.
But it's called Media of the Month and I just want to share all the media that I've been consuming and loving, everything that I'm watching, listening to reading, just media that I think you'll love.
And I thought October was the perfect month to start, because the holiday seasons are just the best time to romanticize your life, because it's never boring.
There's always something happening.
The lead up to October is so exciting.
There's so many things that we want to do and so many movies that we want to watch and music that we want to listen to.
But obviously...
Life gets in the way and you get distracted and it becomes overwhelming and you don't make time to do everything that you want to do.
So I want to give you some of my recommendations to help you have the best October to feel cozy, to have fun, to have all the spooky vibes, to be excited for Halloween and just to romanticize your life.
If you do end up liking this episode, make sure to let me know, because I would love to continue doing this series and giving you some recommendations for when it's Christmas.
So just let me know.
I'm also going to be doing media of the week on my social, so make sure to follow my TikTok and Instagram if you're into that.
But for now, let's get into today's episode.
I first want to start off with movies and TV shows and YouTube videos that I think are essential for the month of October.
I... genuinely believe October is the best month for film.
It's the best month to rot in bed and throw on a movie or binge watch a show, because there's so many good shows and movies to choose from.
They're all so good.
I love spooky.
I love horror.
I love thrillers.
But I also love cozy, cozy little films.
I could probably dedicate an entire episode to just giving you movies and TV shows to watch this month.
But these are the ones that I go back to every single year.
Or these are the ones that have altered my brain chemistry.
And there's nothing else like it out there.
So you gotta watch these if you haven't.
The first show being The Haunting of Hell House.
I watched this when it first came out, I believe my senior year of college.
So what, 2018?
And me and Josh and our friend binge watched this in one day because of how good it was.
We were sat.
It's based on the novel by Shirley Jackson.
And it's about this family who moves into a mansion that's haunted.
And all of these tragic events happen.
Obviously, I'm not going to tell you what happens.
But each episode focuses on a different family member and how the house has influenced them and how it's impacted their mental health.
And just the overall setting of the movie is so spooky.
The production is so incredible.
There's one episode where they filmed it in one take and it was just amazing.
Incredible and I simply cannot recommend this series enough.
This episode is sponsored by PACA.
I love to be comfy.
I love to wear cozy clothes.
A sweatshirt and sweatpants is my go-to outfit of choice and lately I've been living in my sweatshirt from PACA.
It's honestly disgusting how much I've been wearing it.
I wear every single day but I just love it.
It's so cozy.
It's so cute.
It's just my everyday sweatshirt right now.
It's made from alpaca fiber, one of the world's most sustainable natural fibers.
Each one is handcrafted in Peru by artisans who stitch their name to the tag, which I think is so cool, so unique and so awesome, because it's sustainably and ethically made and you get to support the communities and artisans who make these products.
I have the best-selling hoodie in late gray.
It's softer than cashmere, it's warmer than wool and for how warm it is, it's still lightweight and breathable.
I love my pack of hoodie so much.
I get so many compliments on it.
My fiance is always trying to wear it and at this point i should just get him his own.
And if you want to get your own and order now, They'll throw on a free pair of their alpaca crew socks.

The next show is Goosebumps from 1995.
This series I grew up on and I think that's why I revisit it every year.
It's just very nostalgic.
If you don't know what Goosebumps is.
It's a series of mini stories based on children's books by RL.
Stine.
So if you're into spooky but you don't like jump scares, you don't like gore, but you still want to be in the Halloween spirit.
This is a really good series to go to because it's made for kids.
So it's not like scary.
It scared me when I was little, like the episode with the mask terrified me, but it's kind of funny, kind of corny, because it's made for kids and it's easy to watch.
Moving on to movies.
The two movies that I watch every single year.
I will not go without watching.
These is the first Halloween Town, and then Hocus Pocus.
I feel like I don't really have to give you a summary of either of these movies.
They're so wildly known.
But they're just the coziest Halloween movies.
They both capture the magic of Halloween.
You know, pumpkins, witches, trick-or-treating.
And then, of course, the cinematography and soundtrack is just chef's kiss.
It's super cozy.
And again, it's nostalgic.
I also want to add in two Tim Burton movies, because I feel like it wouldn't be Halloween without Tim Burton.
He is such... an incredible filmmaker and artist.
I love that he has such a specific style that when you watch a Tim Burton movie you know that it's his work, because it's spooky, it's dark, but it's also whimsical and kind of cute.
It's not... scary to look at.
You know what I mean?
So the first one is Nightmare Before Christmas.
Again, super nostalgic.
One of the first movies that I've ever watched as a kid.
People go back and forth on whether this is a Halloween movie or Christmas movie.
It is a very clear Halloween movie.
Like when you watch a Christmas movie, you don't want spooky vibes.
You want cozy.
You want, you know, holly jolly.
It's not a Christmas movie.
It's a Halloween movie.
And then the other movie is Sleepy Hollow, which I honestly just watched for the first time a couple weeks ago with Josh.
But I wanted to add it because I do think it's one of Tim Burton's stronger pieces of work.
It revolves around the Headless Horseman legend.
And again, it's not a scary movie to watch, but it's spooky.
It's thrilling.
And it's also a murder mystery, which is one of my favorite kinds of movies to watch and it's just really good.
This episode is sponsored by Nutrafol.

And then lastly for this category, YouTube videos.
One of mine and Josh's favorite things to do during the Halloween season is to watch YouTube videos is watch ghost files.
The profile is watcher, but the two that host the series are called shane and ryan.
I grew up watching ghost hunters, shows about ghosts, and i have just been very into the idea of ghosts, mainly because i believe ghosts follow me.
I no, i was gonna say think, i know that my house that i grew up in was haunted.
Ask any of my friends that have slept over.
It's haunted and i just feel as though ghosts follow me.
I know i'm gonna sound crazy, but i truly believe that i am a medium without the skills that a medium possesses, like i.
I know there's ghosts around me, but I have no idea who they are, what they're saying to me.
Like I can't communicate with them.
I can't talk to them.
I can't be like, oh, your grandma is here.
I don't know.
I just know that there's ghosts around.
Anyways, I'm just very intrigued with the supernatural.
But what's different about this series than like Ghost Hunters is it incorporates ghost hunting, but with a realistic approach.
You know, when you would watch Ghost Hunters, there would be a scene where it was very clearly faked, because for them they can't do a whole series about ghost hunting and then not present any evidence that there's ghosts.
Like if there's no evidence of ghosts people are not going to watch.
So they fake certain scenes.
With this series on YouTube, there's no fake bits.
They're not going to try to make you believe that there's a ghost there if there's not a ghost there.
And another thing I love about the series is Ryan is like me.
He's very into the supernatural.
So he gets spooked very easily.
But then Shane is the total opposite.
He does not believe in ghosts.
So he just kind of clowns around and it's funny.
And again, it's just a very easy thing to watch if you're not into the horror, the gore of Halloween.
And you just want to watch something easy and spooky and, you know, get into the Halloween vibe.
Moving on to music, I have two different categories that I think are just as important as one another in the month of October.
There's the cozy music that you listen to to romanticize the month, but then there's also the dramatic, spooky music that you listen to when you're creeping closer to Halloween.
So for cozy fall music, my recommendations are...
Obviously, we knew we were gonna go here.
Obviously, the Red album and Evermore by Taylor Swift.
Red originally came out in October of 2012, I believe.
So naturally, it feels like a fall album in the nostalgic sense.
Like if you listen to the album when it first came out, you're always going to be brought back to that period in time.
But the overall album sounds like fall.
Like when you listen to it, you...
Think cozy sweaters and scarves and falling leaves.
Specifically songs like All Too Well, Holy Ground, Begin Again.
And I just return to this album all the time.
I mean, I love Taylor Swift, so I'm always rotating through all of her albums throughout the year.
But if I'm going for a walk during the fall, I usually turn this album on.
And then Evermore leans more into winter than fall, but that's why I think it's a good transitional album from October into November and even December.
The setting and vibe of Evermore is very woodsy.
Think flannels, coats, cabins.
It's just very cozy.
Specifically for October.
I love Willow, but I especially love the Lonely Witch and the Dancing Witch version of Willow.
I love Ivy.
I love the song Evermore.
But I think the reason I love both of these albums for fall is during the fall I gravitate more towards acoustic music.
Music with a lot of piano, with storytelling.
And these albums are super strong on all of that.
Those are really the only two albums that I listen to in full during the month of October and that I revisit every year.
But these are some other songs that I really love.
Sweater Weather by The Neighborhood.
We Fell in Love in October by Girl in Red, Witches by Alice Phoebe Liu, Little Lies by Fleetwood Mac, Creep by Radiohead, Pretty Girls Make Graves by The Smiths, Season of the Witch by Lana Del Rey, and then Do You Believe in Magic by The Lovin' Spoonful. this episode is sponsored by fume this new season i'm trying to break bad habits if you're ready to break a bad habit the first step doesn't need to be hard or expensive you just need the right tool to start and that's exactly what fume zero gives you fume zero is a grab and go flavored air device and no it's not a vape there's no nicotine it's just flavored air that's ready right out of the box no charging no refills no setup and it's made with natural plant-based cores no heat and no harmful chemicals fume zero is perfect if you're trying to break the habit of vaping Breaking a habit can be really hard if you don't have anything to fill the space of that habit.
It's better to replace the habit than just stopping the habit.
Instead of reaching for a vape, you can reach for Fume Zero.
It's made to fidget with.
There's a chewable tip for oral fixation and there's six flavors to choose from.
Although I don't necessarily need Fume Zero to help me break a habit, I do like to have it when I go out because I like to fidget with it, which helps a lot with my anxiety.
So it does serve more than just one purpose.
Take zero chances with Fume Zero today, available for just $24.99 US dollars.
Just head to tryfume.com, that's T-R-Y-F-U-M.com to start with zero.
Now for the more spooky, dramatic you know, moving into Halloween territory.
Songs Season of the Witch by Donovan.
Somebody's Watching Me.
By Rockwell Psycho Killer, The Talking Heads, Cannibal by Kesha Goo Goo Muck by The Cramps, and then Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga.
I think these songs are so good.
They're timeless.
They're not like annoying Halloween songs.
Like it's giving Halloween.
But you could also drive in your car and listen to these songs or throw them on a Halloween party or in the background while you're making Halloween cookies, and they just get you in the Halloween spirit and they're so good.
I'm going to make two separate playlists on Spotify, if you do like any of those recommendations or you want to hear them for yourself.
So I'll have them linked in the show notes.
The next category that I want to get into is what I think you should read this month.
I haven't read all of these.
These are just recommendations based on what I think I would like and what you might like.
So the first one being The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.
It's obviously the show that I previously mentioned, just the original version of it.
I haven't personally read this, but I loved the show so much that I think this would be the perfect read for this month.
Honestly, anything by Freda McFadden.
I have read the Housemaid series and I love that, and I'm currently reading Never Lie, which is so good already.
Freda McFadden's books are thrillers and that's exactly what you want during the month of October.
You want something that's eerie and dark and is going to keep you on your toes.
Her books are also perfect for October if you don't necessarily want horror or something gory.
Her books are mainly psychological and suspenseful, so still spooky, but not scary and gross.
Also with her books, I don't want to put them down.
Like I'm genuinely excited to get into bed and read them.
It's that feeling that you get when you find a new show, when you're like i need to sit down my show's on.
That's the same thing with my book.
I'm like i can't wait to get into bed and find out what happens next.
Every single chapter leaves me wanting more, and they're very easy chapters to read.
They're not like 20 pages, so you can easily get through them and binge them.
The next book i haven't read yet, so i can't really give you a true summary of the book, But I read reviews online and I definitely want to pick it up to read this month.
It's called The October Country by Ray Bradbury.
It's a collection of short stories that are set in a metaphorical October.
And it explores everyday human struggles and fears like death and aging.
And then blends them with the supernatural, which i think is really interesting like, instead of having a horror story about something like a monster or just the typical things that happen in horror movies.
The horror is something that is a very normal thing, that most humans have fear and anxiety around.
Like you know, what's actually scarier than a vampire?
The idea that we're going to die.
It's inevitable.
Every single one of us.
That is terrifying.
That will send me into psychosis if I think about it for too long.
So I just think that's really interesting and I am definitely going to read that.
The last two reads that I want to share are short stories, because sometimes you don't want to read a whole novel, you don't want to take a week or a month to read a book, you just want to sit down and drink your coffee and read something quick.
Or, like the other night, I was laying in bed and Josh had already fallen asleep, so I didn't want to turn the light on because I knew if I did, he was gonna be like turn it off.
So I didn't, and I instead looked up short horror stories online and I found a few on Reddit and I read these on my phone and it satisfied my craving to read something spooky.
So the first one I read was We the Girls Who Did Not Make It.
The story is narrated by the ghost of 13 women who were kidnapped and murdered, and it goes into a lot of the details of who these women were.
The reason that I liked the story in itself is it reminds us of how much focus is always put on the predator, the killer, the person who inflicts the harm, rather than the victims.
The headlines are always about the person who committed the crime, and we want to know why they did it and who they were, rather than who were these people that were affected by their cruelty.
And this short story just does a really great job at presenting that ugly truth and it gives a voice to those women.
So it was spooky, but it also was very empowering to read.
I don't know.
I just really recommend it.
And then the other short story and the last one for this category is The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
It's written as a series of journal entries by a woman whose husband is a doctor.
And in the story, she's told by her husband that she's sick and she needs to rest.
So he puts her up in this room and it's like this confined space with this hideous wallpaper which, like when I'm reading the story, I'm like I don't know.
I feel like I really like the wallpaper.
Like yellow wallpaper sounds fire.
But the more time she spends alone in this room she begins to sense something a little unsettling with the yellow wallpaper.
Obviously, I'm not going to say what happens, but it's definitely creepy.
And it's very well written and I just think it's a really good story to read this month.
And then the last category for this episode is going to be online creators.
These are creators that I've been watching for the past month that I think are either extremely talented or I just love the vibe of them.
I think it's super important that you curate a safe and fun and inspiring space for yourself online.
Social media should be somewhere fun for you, for you to escape.
And when I log into Instagram and TikTok, I don't want to feel bad about what I'm looking at.
I don't want to have anxiety.
I want to enjoy my time.
So these are creators that I've really been loving, specifically for the month of October.
And there's so many creators that I love.
I could do a whole video honestly, I probably will a whole video of people that I love on social media and that I think deserve so much more attention.
But these are the ones that fit perfectly for this month in my opinion.
And I'll tag them in the show notes as well for you so you can go check them out yourself.
The first creator is Arabella Touchstone.
All of Arabella's content is very cozy, but I specifically like the videos where she sits down and gives you recommendations, almost in the same type of format as this episode like.
She has a video where she recommends cozy games to play this fall, and she has a video where she gives you fall and winter books to read.
And And she recently did a video where she gives you a guide to make the perfect boo basket.
I love this type of content because it's so cozy, but it also kind of makes you feel productive, because you leave feeling inspired which leads you to taking action in your own life.
The next creator is CTLions24.
Casey's content is really just so cozy and nostalgic.
And something that I actually really appreciate about Casey's content is you can tell that she's not trying to sell you anything, which is very rare online.
And look, I'm a full-time content creator.
I do ads.
I do sponsorships.
I mean, hey, I have three sponsorships in today's episode. i get it but i also consume content online sometimes i just want to log onto my phone and not see ad after ad after ad i know how overwhelming and frustrating it can be so it is super refreshing when you come across a creator who's simply creating to just show you their life and to show you what they love and it really comes out in her content and all of her videos in a lot of her videos she showcases her house and how she decorates her house and it's not like modern decorations it's almost vintage halloween the way that you would decorate when you were younger and she often has some type of tv show or cartoon playing in the background i just really love it and i feel so happy whenever i see her videos pop up it just feels good to see her content and then the third creator is giddy figgy sydney's profile is another one that i love that's so cozy and nostalgic Her profile is a really great one to go to if you're trying to romanticize your life and really take in the season.
She posts a lot of videos showing you her artwork.
Little details throughout the day, like what she's wearing, how she decorates her house, what she's eating.
She has this video where she shows you this 1999 Halloween cookbook, which I thought was really cool.
She has a video showing you her fall movie rewatch list and she does her videos in such a unique way, like a specific style.
She really locked down how she creates her videos and i just appreciate it.
It honestly would be better if you just went and looked for yourself like, me explaining it and me explaining her content doesn't do it justice.
It's so good, so cozy, like i aspire to be, that put together and to be able to curate my art in the way that she does.
But with all that being said, that is where I'm going to end today's episode.
I hope you enjoyed it.
If you did, please let me know.
Let me know if this is the kind of video that you'd like for me to do in the future, for like different seasons and holidays.
Or, if you like this kind of format where I give you recommendations and lists, let me know if you want that, but something different than media.
I'm open to any and all recommendations and feedback.
You can let me know in the Spotify comments.
You can let me know on Instagram and TikTok.
And if there's any media that you're loving right now, I would love to hear about it.
If you're playing any video games right now or if you know of any fall video games that you love.
I would love to know because i definitely want to get more into that.
Like, i have a nintendo switch but i never know what to play, so i don't play it.
Like right now, i'm currently playing club penguin on my computer, but that's really the only game i'm playing and that's why i didn't include video games in this media of the month, because i didn't know of any good video games.
But if you do know, please let me know.
As always, thank you so much for listening.
And if you haven't already, please make sure to rate.
Try Not To Care on Spotify Apple, wherever you listen.
It really helps me out.
And I love you.
And I will talk to you next Monday.
Okay.
Love you.
Bye.
