Hi, it's Dora, and you're listening to Radio Headspace.
I'll be honest with y'all.
Sometimes I feel like I've lived nine lives.
I've gone through so many transitions new cities, new roles relationships ending identities, evolving.
And if there's one thing I've learned, it's that change doesn't always come with clarity.
Often it comes with confusion, tenderness and maybe, most of all, loneliness.
You start noticing shifts in yourself, the way you think, the things that you're drawn to, the habits that you're letting go of.
But the world around you, it may not be shifting at the same pace.
And that gap between the old you and the new.
You can feel like standing on an island waving across the water.
And there's a word for this space, liminality.
It's the pause between no longer and not yet.
You're not who you were, But you're not quite who you're becoming.
And it can feel like floating, untethered, alone.
But here's the truth.
This space isn't empty.
It's sacred.
It's where deep healing happens, even if no one else can see it.
It's where you grow your roots before you bloom again.
And mindfulness can help us stay with what is without rushing into what's next.
One of the most powerful transitions I've experienced was when I decided to stop drinking.
At first, I thought it would be a small shift, just a choice for my well-being.
But almost overnight, my social life changed.
The invitation stopped.
The group chats went quiet.
People I used to laugh and dance with just faded out.
It was heartbreaking, not because I wanted to go back, But because I hadn't realized how much of my identity was wrapped up in those moments.
Those people, that version of me now I could have rushed to fill the space made new friends, quickly thrown myself into something new, just to feel less alone.
But I didn't.
Instead, I allowed myself to be in the in-between.
I went for long walks, I journaled, I cooked for myself.
And I started to build a new relationship with someone I had been avoiding for a long time, me.
And over time, the loneliness softened.
It didn't disappear, but it wasn't as consuming.
And that quiet started to feel like peace.
So if you find yourself in that space where things are shifting and people are fading and you feel a little unrecognizable to yourself, you're not broken, you're becoming.
And yes, becoming can be lonely, but it can also be honest, grounding, and beautifully necessary.
So here are a few things that helped me.
Number one is to honor the pause.
You don't need to rush into the next thing.
Number two is allow the loneliness to speak.
Sometimes it's just asking for your attention.
And number three is to ground in the small things, breath. movement, nature, music, and presence.
You don't have to know what's next.
You just have to stay with yourself in this moment.
So this hallway that you may find yourself in, it's not a mistake.
It's a part of the path.
So see if you can be here, even if it's quiet, even if it's lonely, even if it's slow.
Because one day, this version of you, the one who stayed, will look back and say that's where I found myself.
Leave it here for today.
Thank you so much for being here with me.
I'll talk to you tomorrow.
