While digging a swimming pool, a man in France discovered five gold bars and coins worth 800000 buried in plastic bags.
French law let him keep it all since it was on his property and no owner claimed it.
The gold was melted down 15 to 20 years ago at a local refinery.
Mystery solved?
The previous owner had died.
On November 8 2025, astronomers watched interstellar object 3I Atlas zip past the sun, releasing seven glowing jets and a massive half-million-kilometer halo.
Harvard professor Avi Loeb calls it possible alien tech with thrusters, not just a comet.
And finally Preventive.
A new US startup said plans embryo DNA tweaks to fix diseases or add traits like stronger hearts.
With 30 million funding.
It's the third firm this year eyeing heritable editing, despite US bans and ethics uproar.
Could super babies be next?
Or a slippery slope?
Now, come on.
How crazy is that, right?
Can you imagine digging up gold in your own backyard?
This guy was just trying to build a swimming pool and boom, he finds five gold bars and a pile of coins worth eight hundred thousand dollars.
And the law actually let him keep it.
I mean, that never happens.
I'd probably start digging holes all over my yard after that.
Who knows right?
They said the gold was melted down about 15 or 20 years ago and the owner had already passed away.
So, mystery solved.
But still, what a story.
That's the kind of surprise that changes your weekend plans real quick.
Okay, so the next one sounds straight out of a movie.
Astronomers saw this object 3I Atlas zip past the sun and it started shooting out glowing jets with a giant halo around it.
Some say it's just a comet, but Harvard's Avi Loeb thinks it could be alien tech with thrusters.
And it's near the sun.
I mean, wow.
Can you imagine if it really was an alien ship?
Like, hey Earth, just passing by.
Keep arguing about pineapples on pizza or something.
Whatever it was, it's kind of amazing that we're seeing stuff in space that well.
We still can't explain.
Makes you realize there's so much we don't know yet.
And for our last story today, well, this one's fascinating, but to me, it's a little unsettling.
A startup in the US called Preventive wants to edit embryo DNA to remove diseases that And even add traits like stronger hearts.
They've already raised $30 million even though this kind of thing is banned in the US right now.
It's one of those stories that make you stop and think.
Well, to me at least, think really hard.
Are we curing sickness?
Or are we starting to design people?
It's amazing science yes, but it definitely brings up some big questions, like if you could choose your baby's traits, would you?
Or should nature still be in charge of that?
Well, before we move on, let's listen to the news one more time.

Oh, treasure.
I love treasure.
Finder's keeper code.
France's 1804 law gives 100 ownership of buried treasure on private land to the finder if no owner claims it.
Over 1,000 hoards found since World War II.
Wow.
Roman riches.
French soil hides ancient loot, too.
A 2010 dig yielded 150,000 Roman coins, worth millions.
Ah, time travel.
Forgotten.
Thank you, Country Shane.
Oh, hold on.
That was actually Mahmoud filling in for Country Shane.
What an excellent job.
Thank you, Mahmoud.
And speaking of gold and treasure, oh, we got this song, Treasure by Bruno Mars.
Enjoy.
All right, this week Fulia will give us our phrasal verb.
Take it away, Fulia.
Hey, everyone.
This is Fulia.
And I'm sitting in for code Shane on the phrasal verb segment of this week's podcast.
I hope you like it because we have got a really cool phrasal verb this week.
The phrasal verb of the week is to dig up.
It has three very common meanings.
And I'll give you simple examples for each.
Let's start with the first one.
To dig up means to unearth something literally.
For example, he dug up old photos in the attic.
Or, archaeologists dug up ancient coins.
So when you discover or find something that has been lost or buried for a while, you are digging it up.
Now, the second meaning is a bit more figurative.
To dig up can also mean to discover information, especially secrets or forgotten facts, for instance.
She dug up her family history online.
Reporters dug up the scandal.
So if you find out something interesting, or maybe something someone wanted to keep hidden, you can say you dug it up.
And finally, the third meaning.
This one is emotional.
To dig up can mean to interrupt or disturb something from the past, like bringing up bad memories or old problems.
You might hear someone say, don't dig up that argument again, or he dug up bad memories.
Yeah, sometimes it's better not to dig up the past, right?
So remember, to dig up can be used for things Secrets or emotions.
Literal or emotional.
It depends on what you are digging.
Alright, that's it for the phrasal verb of the week.
Thanks for listening.
And don't forget to share your own example using TULIGA.
See you.
Bye-bye.
Thank you, Fulya.
Oh, that was really helpful.
Alright, we got a song coming up.
It's Peter Gabriel digging in the dirt.
Weekly speaking challenge.
In the last podcast, we asked the question, what was the last time you went to bed angry?
Why you went to bed angry?
And...
Thank you very much to Evelyn, Jian, Mina Min, and Ada Ada.
Thank you guys for sending your recordings, and let's have a listen to what Mina said.
I had an argument with my son about his homework yesterday.
I felt upset and regretful.
I didn't fall asleep until 3 a.m., and my husband tried to figure it out.
We decided to get my son in charge of him in the future.
Great job mina, and i totally agree.
Having an argument with our kids it's definitely affects your sleep.
You get angry, you get stressed and you feel maybe you feel a little bit guilty right, and i'm really happy your husband now in charge for that.
So don't get stressed, don't get angry, sleep well and let him does his job.
Thank you very much, mina.
All right, this week's theme a trait you would add it in yourself.
Questions to answer.
What trait?
Why change it?
What would you pick instead?
For example, my shyness.
It stops me from meeting people.
I'd pick tons of confidence.
Keep your answer under 20 seconds.
Be fun, be clear and record your voice to practice real English speaking.
I know, it's not easy, but that's the point.
