It's imagination time with Katie. Hi friends.
You're listening to Super Simple Imagination Time with Katie.
This episode is inspired by the Super Simple song, I'm making a card for my Valentine.
But making a card is not just for Valentine's Day.
It's a great way to show someone you care anytime of year.
Let's go! It's good to be with you, my friend Hello, hello I'm glad we're together again We got Zach on the keys Katie singing la la la la la We'll have some fun in our imagination Go on adventures again and again Hello Hello, it's good to be with you my friend Hello, hello, I'm Katie and this is Zach Hello hello.
If you're listening to this episode when it's first released, then you'll be listening in February.
But really, you can listen to this episode anytime.
But on February 14th, there's a celebration called Valentine's Day.
On Valentine's Day, people sometimes hand out cards called valentines to friends and family and maybe a special someone.
What's a special someone? A special someone is a person that you love.
And on Valentine's Day, we show them how much we care.
There are other days when we do that too.
Like Mother's Day or Father's Day and Birthdays.
People give cards to show how much they care on those days, too.
But you know what I think is kind of really super special? giving someone a surprise card, a just because card, an any day of the week card.
And it's even more special if we can make the card ourselves with paper, crayons, and other craft supplies.
Ooh, I like making crafts. Me too! Today, let's imagine making a card for a special someone.
It can be for anyone you like. And in our imaginations, we'll make it the most beautiful card ever.
Before we get started, let's clear our minds and relax our bodies, like we're clearing space for our crafts.
Then we'll be ready to get crafty in our imaginations.
Are you ready, Zach? Ready, Katie. Are you ready, friends?
Let's close our eyes and take a deep breath.
In one, two, three, hold it Out three, two, one Let's imagine a big blank sheet of paper.
There's nothing on it yet. It's just waiting for us to make something with it.
Can you see a big blank sheet of paper in your mind?
Now, let's imagine taking a crayon and drawing a line right down the middle of the paper from the very top. down to the very bottom.
Let's imagine folding the paper in half along the line, matching the corners, and pressing down to make a crease.
We can imagine our whole body is pressing down into the ground, relaxing.
We'll take one more deep breath and imagine pushing down to make the fold all together.
In one, two, three, hold it. Out three, two, one.
Now we're ready to make our imaginary card.
I'm making a card for my Valentine I'm drawing a heart, making some art to give to my Valentine I'm making a card For my Valentine I'm making shapes with paper and tape To give to my Valentine A homemade card can be as simple as a drawing with crayons.
Or you might like to add other things, like stickers and paint.
It can be anything you like. Really, it's the thought that counts.
I'm sure your special someone will really appreciate that you took the time to make something just for them, whoever they are.
Ooh, I'm excited to get crafty. Let's bring out the craft supplies in our imaginations.
Getting ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready, ready to create.
Let's get out our crayons! our paints, our stickers, and any other craft supplies you want for your imaginary card.
Don't forget a smock or an apron. That's a piece of clothing that goes over our usual clothes so we don't get them messy.
And we can put down some paper, we can get dirty, so we don't get paint on the craft table.
There! Now we're ready, ready, ready We're ready, ready, ready To make our car Where should we start?
Let's make some shapes. That's a great place to start.
Let's imagine picking up a crayon and bringing it towards the paper.
The crayon can be any color you like. I'm going to use a pink crayon.
I imagine my grand is orange. Nice. Let's put our crayon to the paper and we'll draw a great big heart.
A heart, a heart Can you draw a heart? A heart, a heart Can you draw a heart?
I imagine I can see the curved lines of the heart appearing on the big piece of paper.
One side Then the other, and they meet at the bottom at a point.
Ooh, I imagine it looks really great! A beautiful heart for the front of our special card.
Let's imagine coloring it in. Can you see the heart filling up with color in your mind?
It's perfect! Now, let's imagine the inside of the card.
We can imagine opening it up. Another big blank page.
What color should we add here? There are so many beautiful colors we could use.
Red, yellow, green, blue, red, yellow, green, blue, red, yellow Green.
Blue. Those are great colors, but I think I want to use the color.
Purple! Where is the purple crayon? It must be around here somewhere.
Let's look around. Look around and see what can be found I imagine searching through the crayons in my mind.
But I don't see it. It must be missing. Hmm, purple's such a nice color.
What can we do? Hmm. I'm thinking a thought I'm thinking a lot We need an idea, let's work with what we've got.
Isn't there a way to make purple using other colors?
Of course! Purple is a secondary color. That means it's made up of two primary colors mixed together.
Do you know what colors make purple? Blue.
And red! Let's imagine squeezing out a big blob of blue paint. and a big blob of red paint.
And we'll mix them together in our minds.
Take some blue, take some red. Mix them together.
What do you get? I imagine I can see the blue and red colors swirling together.
Slowly the red and blue start to disappear into each other and what's left is a big blob of purple paint.
Blue and red make purple Blue and red make purple Mixing colors together is almost like magic.
How about we make some circles with the purple color we made?
Circles have no corners. Just curved lines that go all the way around.
They're fun to draw. I like to draw Let's draw with purple Come draw with me Let's draw some circles Let's imagine making big circles on the page.
Moving our purple paint in a loop. and connecting the line to complete the circle.
Can you see it in your mind? Let's make circles that are all different sizes.
Big and small, big and small, big, big, big, big, small, small, small.
I imagine adding in circles all over the page.
It looks great! but there's still lots of blank space.
How about we add some stickers? Stickers are very fun, but they can be a bit tricky to peel sometimes.
Let's try it. Can you imagine some stickers in your mind?
What do they look like? I'm going to imagine stickers of my favorite things.
Cats! Trees! Pizza! I'm imagining stickers of music notes.
Your stickers can be anything you like. Now let's imagine peeling the sticker off.
Hmm, I can't quite seem to get it. I'm trying to peel off the sticker, but this is tricky.
When you wanna give up, try again Keep on trying, keep on trying Okay, let's try again.
And if it doesn't work, we can always ask for help.
But let's make sure we tried our best first.
Let's imagine. Blowing the sticker off.
And yes! We did it! Hooray! Now, let's stick them on the page.
One here, one there. Another one over here?
Another one over there? Here? There? Oh, over here?
Over there? Oh, and right here too? Oh wait, maybe not too many.
The page is almost full, and we need to leave some room for our special message.
The cards often have a special message inside of them, and a space where you can write anything you like. our message will be the final finishing touch to our perfect card for our special somebody.
I think I'm going to write Bye. Love. No!
I imagine I made a mistake and wrote the wrong letter.
Now the special message doesn't look right.
I've ruined my perfect card. I'm so upset.
When I'm feeling big feelings I stop and see How the big feelings are feeling in me I feel so frustrated and disappointed.
We were working so hard. And now the card isn't perfect.
It is very frustrating. But remember what you said at the beginning?
It's the thought that counts. I did say that.
And I think it's true. I guess, in the end, it doesn't really matter what the card looks like.
What's important is to show our special someone that we care.
Well, the card won't be perfect, but I can imagine crossing out my mistake and trying again.
I... love... you. There! Oh, I'm still really proud of my card, even if there's a mistake on it.
It kind of even makes it extra special, because we didn't give up when things got tricky.
I think our cards are ready to hand out.
Oh, whoops, I almost forgot. You know what we have to do?
It's the final step of crafting. Cleaning up!
Let's imagine putting all our craft supplies away.
Clean up, clean up. Everybody, let's clean up.
Clean up, clean up, put your things away.
Let's put away the crayons and the paints.
Put away all the stickers and the paper.
Clean up, clean up Everybody let's clean up Clean up, clean up Put your things away All clean.
I'm so excited for us to share our cards with our special someone.
Whether it's a Valentine or a Just Because card, showing someone we care is a very nice thing to do.
And in the end, it doesn't matter if it's perfect or not.
Mistakes happen, and it shows we kept trying, even when things got tricky.
After all, when it comes to making a card, it's the thought-back counts.
I'm making a card for my Valentine I'm trying a heart making some art to give to my Valentine I think we made some wonderful cards in our imaginations.
