📋 Summary

The Tragic Murder of Linda Jensen: A Cold Case Resolved

In February 1992, the peaceful life of Linda Jensen in Big Lake, Minnesota, was shattered by a brutal crime. Linda, a 38-year-old mother, was found dead in the master bedroom of her home by her husband, Charlie Jensen. The scene was gruesome; Linda had been strangled and stabbed with such force that a kitchen knife was left embedded in her chest. For eight years, the case remained a haunting mystery, leaving a family devastated and a community in fear.

A Life Rebuilt and Suddenly Stolen

Linda and Charlie Jensen’s relationship was a testament to resilience. After divorcing in 1978 due to Charlie’s struggle with PTSD and alcohol, both individuals grew and changed. When they reunited years later, Charlie had become "clean and sober," working as a successful carpenter. They remarried in 1991 and welcomed their daughter, Lisa. By early 1992, the family was thriving. Linda was active, running daily loops in her neighborhood, and was looking forward to enrolling her son, Joey, in the local Boy Scouts. However, a dark cloud had appeared: Robert Beard, Joey’s biological father, had been making threatening calls demanding more visitation, causing Linda significant distress.

The Investigation Hits a Dead End

When Charlie discovered Linda’s body, the police immediately treated the home as a crime scene. Investigators initially suspected a personal motive, noting there were no signs of forced entry. While Charlie was a primary suspect due to their past, he provided a solid alibi and passed a DNA test, clearing his name. Other leads, including a sketch based on a mail carrier’s observation of a "copper-colored pickup truck," eventually evaporated when the witness changed her story. Despite testing over 80 DNA samples from men associated with Linda, the investigation "ground to a halt" by May 1992.

The Breakthrough: Obsession Revealed

For years, Linda’s sister, Sandy, and Charlie refused to let the case go cold. Their persistence, combined with the efforts of Sheriff Bruce Anderson, eventually led to a breakthrough in 2000. A woman named Angela Hennen came forward with a tip regarding Kent Jones, a local man who had served as the leader of the local Boy Scout troop.

Investigators discovered that Kent Jones had become "obsessed" with Linda after seeing her jogging in the neighborhood. He had learned her routines and harbored dark fantasies about her. When confronted, his wife contradicted his alibi, confirming that Linda had indeed visited their home to inquire about Boy Scouts. Most damningly, a court-ordered DNA test matched Kent Jones to the semen samples recovered from Linda’s body.

Justice Served

It was revealed that on the morning of February 24, 1992, Jones had knocked on the Jensen door. Once inside, he subjected Linda to a "violent sexual assault" before murdering her. Jones had a history of violence, including a 1995 incident where he stabbed his own wife, which he had dismissively blamed on an "accident" involving a dishwasher. In 2001, Kent Jones was found guilty of first-degree murder and sexual assault, finally providing a sense of closure for the Jensen family. Reflecting on the tragedy, Charlie Jensen lamented, "He took a mother away from her children, a wife from her husband and a beautiful person away from the world."
