Siffre experienced severe "mental disturbance," deep sadness, and loneliness. His isolation was so profound that he attempted to befriend a mouse, only to accidentally kill it—an event that left him so distraught he contemplated taking his own life. By the end of the six months, he struggled to think and speak, demonstrating that while he had the physical necessities to survive, his mind suffered without human connection. Although the experiments took a heavy personal toll—leading to the end of his marriage and a long recovery period—Siffre’s work remains unparalleled in the scientific community.
