Hello! I hope you are ready, because it is time to listen, and play!
Listen carefully. What can you hear?
It sounds like being outside!
That's right! Today, we're in the countryside on a farm.
Listen again. What can you hear?
This type of bird lays the eggs that you find in shops.
Let's listen to it again.
It's a chicken! Well done!
It is a chicken! Listen again to another farm sound.
Bah ha! Bah ha! It sounds like a sheep!
Yes! That's right! Listen again for another farm sound.
Yes, that's right. There's a cow and a sheep in today's song, which is all about a boy who falls asleep, when he should be doing something important.
It's called Little Boy Blue.
Listen first as I sing, and afterwards, be ready to join in with as many words as you can.
Little boy, Blue, Come blow your horn.
The sheep's in the meadow, The cows in the corn.
Where is the boy who looks after the sheep?
Under a haystack, he's fast asleep.
Will you, id him, know not I?
For if I do he sure to cry Will you wake him?
No, not I. For if I do he sure to cry Now we're going to sing the song together.
And this time listen out for any rhyming words.
Little boy, blue, come blow your horn, the sheep's in the meadow, the cows in the corn, where is the boy who looks after the sheep, under a haystack, he's fast asleep.
Will you wake him? No, not I.
For if I do he's sure to cry.
Will you wake him? No, not I.
For if I do he sure to cry.
Little boy, blue come blow your horn, the sheep's in the meadow, the cows in the corn, Where is their boy who looks after the sheep?
Under a haystack he's fast asleep.
Will you wake him? No not I, or if I do he's sure to cry.
Will you wake him, no not I!
For if I do, he's sure to cry.
Did you hear the rhyming words?
There was horn, and corn, sheep, and the sleep, and also eye, and cry.
Well done, if you heard any of those!
It's time to listen again.
What can you hear? It sounds like someone making music.
That's right. It's a type of musical instrument called a trumpet.
There is a trumpet in our story today.
Listen carefully and see if you can hear it.
There was once a boy who had the most amazing blue eyes.
They are as blue as the flowers in the cornfield, his mom said.
And as blue as the sky on a sunny day, said his dad, they gave the boy a special name.
They called him, boy blue.
Boy blue lived on a farm with lots of animals.
There were cows, pigs and sheep and a cockroal called Doodle Day.
When boy blue wasn't at school, he liked helping on the farm.
He helped move the cows into the milking shed, and he helped wash the piglets after they'd rolled in mud.
Best of all, though, he liked looking after the sheep and their bouncy little lambs, in the field where the sheep grazed, there was a haystack as big as a house, and Boy Blue liked to sit next to it watching the lamb skipping round their mothers and calling to each other in high voices.
One day, boy -blue's dad asked him to count the sheep and lambs.
To check they were all safe.
He also gave boy -blue a trumpet.
Blow it if you have a problem,' Dad said, showing him how.
The trumpet made a sweet, sad sound.
Boy -blue walked to the field where the sheep lived and began to count.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5. He counted using his fingers to help.
Then, he counted the lums. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.
This time, using the fingers on his other hand to count.
Five sheep and five lums!
Boy Blue said to himself, That's easy to remember, and he sat down with his back against a big haystack and began to eat the picnic mom had made for him.
It was warm and sunny ...
and after a while, Bueblu began to feel sleepy.
In the distance he heard the cows mooing, the pigs grunting and the cockro sank ...
Boy Blues sat down and his eyes began to close.
He was almost asleep when… I must count the animals, he said jumping up.
One, two, three, four, five sheep.
And, one, two, three, four, five alames!
He counted. Everyone was safe.
Boy Blues sat down.
and once again his eyes began to close.
He was almost asleep when I must count the animals he said jumping up.
One two three four five sheep and one two three four five lambs he counted.
Everyone was safe. For a third time boy blew sat down and once again His eyes began to close.
Bibloo was almost asleep when...
I must count the animals, he said, jumping up.
One, two, three, four, five.
He counted. The sheep were all there.
Then he counted the lambs.
One, two, three, four.
He counted again. One, two, three, four.
There were only four lams instead of five.
By Blue ran around the haystack, who ran across the middle, he ran to the gate to look into the next field.
But there was no sign of the missing lamb.
Then he remembered the trumpet tied to his belt.
He put it to his lips like his dad has shown him.
He blew once. He blew twice.
He blew three times.
He blew so hard, his face turned red.
The door of the farmhouse opened, and boy blues mum and dad rushed out.
What is it they called?
A lamb is lost, said boy blue.
Try not to cry. Don't worry, said he's more.
... his mother is still here, he won't be far away, blow your horn again, he'll come, you'll see, blow quietly this time, whisper dad, perhaps he doesn't lie at loud noises.
Boy blue blew his horn quietly, at the bottom of the field, something moved.
Then, through a hole in the hitch, a little woolly face peeped out, Look, body -boy blue his head Cried the five sheep Lead to the four lambs in high voices Boy blue blew his horn again And the lamb ran towards him as fast as his little legs would go I'm glad he came back.
He said to his mom and dad So are we.
Smart mom. Now they're all together again.
I'm ready for bed. The lamb's snuggled up to his mother.
See you tomorrow, said boy Blue to five lambs and five sheep and with mum on one side, and dad on the other.
He walked happily back to the house.
I'm glad that all the lambs came home.
Perhaps later you could talk together about a time when you found something you had lost. It's now time to play another listening game, with more farm sounds.
What can you hear this time?
Brum! It sounds like a Big Machine!
That's right! It's a terrific tractor!
Listen again! What can you hear?
That's right! Listen again.
What can you hear? It sounds like a bird. It's a type of bird called a goose.
Our final song today is all about a goose that lays a golden egg.
Join in with as many words as you can.
