The IELTS speaking test has three parts.
Part one is the interview.
You will talk about yourself, your hobbies, your interests, your education, family.
Part two is the individual long-term.
You should speak about a topic for one to two minutes.
And part three is the deep dive discussion.
You will have to discuss abstract topics in this lesson.
We're going to focus on part three and i will show you how to answer for band scores seven plus.
Now, part three of the test is very similar to part one of the tests.
Both of them are question and answer format.
That means the examiner will ask a question, the candidate will answer the question question and answer.
However, look at these two questions.
Do you read books?
How does reading improve society?
Which question is about you?
Question one.
Which question is about the society?
Question two.
Which question is personal?
Question one.
Which question is about an abstract topic?
Question two.
Question one is for part one of the test.
It's very simple.
Do you read books?
But question two is for part three.
This question is for a discussion.
So the big difference here is in part one, subject is you.
In part three.
Subject is society world, people in general.
Okay, so how should i answer a part three question?
Let me show you an example.
Let's talk about reading.
How does reading improve society?
In my view, a society that reads is generally more empathetic and understanding.
The reason for this is that books allow us to see the world through someone else's eyes and experience lives very different from our own.
For instance, if people read books about refugees, they may feel more compassion towards them in real life.
So I believe by reading more, a community becomes much more welcoming and less divided. that was a band 9 answer a very good part 3 answer follows four steps oreo and no i'm not talking about the biscuits oreo o-r-e-o o stands for opinion r stands for reason e stands for explanation and o stands for overview oreo every single answer you give should be in the oreo format that means the first sentence you say is your direct opinion about that issue the second sentence is the reason behind that opinion the third one is an example sentence and the fourth one wraps it up let's have a look at the sample answer of band 9 that we just saw together The first sentence is this, the opinion sentence.
In my view, a society that reads is generally more empathetic and understanding.
That's the opinion.
Why?
That's the reason.
The reason for this is that books allow us to see the world through someone else's eyes and experience lives very different from our own.
Are there any examples?
Yeah.
For instance, if people read stories about refugees, they might feel more compassion towards them in real life.
Now let's wrap it up.
So by reading more, a community becomes much more welcoming and less divided.
That's a perfect answer.
Oreo.
Now let's have a look at another question, which was from The Real IELTS Test in 2026.
Here's the question.
What makes a person healthy?
Let's answer this question together.
First, we need to talk about our direct opinion.
In my opinion, being healthy is a combination of both a good diet and regular exercise.
That's my direct opinion.
Now i need to talk about the reason.
The reason is that our bodies need nutritious food for energy, but they also need physical activity to keep our muscles and heart strong.
Okay, I've given my opinion and reason.
It is time for E example.
For instance, even if someone eats very healthy meals, They may still feel tired or weak if they sit at a desk all day without moving.
Now I have the opinion, reason, and example.
It's time to wrap it up.
So I believe you cannot have one without the other if you want to be truly fit.
That is a perfect structure for an answer.
Oreo.
I think this is turning into an ad for Oreo biscuits.
In order to fully learn this method, you need to see a lot of examples.
