Embracing the Unknown: Life and Routine in Banff

Moving to a new place can be a daunting experience, especially when the goal is to balance a new job with a desire for personal growth and content creation. In this series of reflections, the creator shares her journey of settling into Banff, Alberta, over the past month. Despite feeling that her life hasn't quite "fallen into place" or that her routine isn't "perfect," she chooses to document her experiences rather than waiting for the ideal moment to start filming.

The Challenge of Establishing a Routine

One of the central themes is the struggle to maintain a consistent schedule while working a job that consumes five out of seven days a week. The creator admits that, at times, she feels "exhausted" after work, making it difficult to find the "energy or motivation" to keep up with editing or other creative pursuits. To combat this, she has turned to journaling as a tool for self-reflection. By creating lists of "ins and outs," she aims to prioritize what truly matters and visualize her goals clearly. She notes that while her updates have been "sporadic," she is committed to taking "small steps" to build a more consistent, reflective practice.

Adventures in the Wilderness

Living in Banff offers unique opportunities for outdoor exploration, which the creator actively pursues to make the most of her time. Her recent experiences include:

  • Backcountry Hiking: She participated in her first backcountry trip with a group of friends, hiking from Alberta to British Columbia. She vividly recalls the "crazy cold" water of a glacial lake, describing it as "huge blocks of ice," which highlights the raw beauty and intensity of the region.
  • Day Hikes and Safety: During a solo hike, she encountered a "grizzly sighting" warning, which prompted her to join a group of four to safely reach the second lookout. This experience emphasized both the unpredictability of nature and the sense of community found among fellow hikers.
  • Water Activities: Beyond hiking, she has invested in an "inflatable kayak" to take advantage of her proximity to local lakes, describing the experience as "a lot of fun" and a highlight of her summer.

Finding Home and Productivity

Living in what she jokingly describes as a room that "looks like a prison cell" with "gray walls and a gray bed," the creator discusses the challenge of making a temporary space feel like home. While she is hesitant to buy decorations she cannot keep, she plans to visit a "thrift store" to find inexpensive items to make the space feel more "alive."

To manage her productivity, she has adopted the strategy of "getting out of the house" to work. Whether it is heading to a local coffee shop to edit videos or utilizing downtime at a laundromat to read and work, she finds that changing her environment significantly boosts her motivation. Additionally, she has been a regular at the local "farmer's market" in Banff and Canmore, finding joy in the simple act of exploring booths and trying local snacks.

Conclusion

Ultimately, the creator's journey in Banff is a testament to the idea that one does not need to have everything figured out to start living fully. By embracing the "rainy, gloomy" days with productive work sessions and celebrating the "perfect" mornings on mountain peaks, she is learning to appreciate the process of building a life in a new environment. Through her commitment to documenting these days, she ensures that she can "reminisce and look back" on this transformative summer, regardless of whether her routine is perfectly polished.

📖 Transcript

Good morning everyone and happy Friday.
As you can see, I'm at the top of a mountain.
I decided to get out of the house early this morning and do a short little hike, because I only start work later on in the day.
So I figured why not, you know, do something with my morning and bring you along with me.
If you didn't see my last video, I kind of explained in it that I moved to Banff for the summer.
I'm going to be working here, and have been working here already for little over a month, and I was kind of waiting to get back into a routine and to feel like I was really properly settled before I started filming.
