📋 Summary

The Tragic End of a Rising Star

In August 2010, the Nashville music community was shattered by the brutal murder of Veronica Boza, a 39-year-old music producer known for her "it factor" and professional success. Veronica was a devoted mother to her nine-year-old son, Jordan, and had been navigating a difficult divorce from her husband, Tim Boza. On Sunday, August 29th, after a routine custody exchange at a church parking lot, Veronica returned to her home in the quiet, affluent Bridgewater neighborhood. Shortly after arriving, she was confronted in her garage by an intruder. Despite her attempt to fight back, she was shot four times at close range. Her boyfriend, Brian Robinson, discovered her body shortly after and contacted emergency services, setting off a high-stakes homicide investigation.

A Web of Alibis and Suspicion

Detectives Johnny Crumby and Andrew Injichok initially focused on the two men closest to Veronica: her boyfriend, Brian, and her estranged husband, Tim. Both men presented alibis that were eventually verified through surveillance footage and cell phone data, effectively clearing them of being the primary shooter. However, investigators noticed a suspicious frequency of communication between Tim and his business partner, Corey Cotham. Records revealed thirteen calls between the two on the day of the murder. Corey, who had prior convictions for aggravated assault, became the prime person of interest. Though Corey attempted to establish an alibi through his girlfriend, Jenny, the case broke open when Jenny admitted she had been coerced into lying and that Corey had access to her minivan, where a stolen 9mm handgun had previously been stored.

The "Criss-Cross" Murder Plot

As the investigation deepened, authorities uncovered a chilling motive that mirrored the plot of the film Throw Momma from the Train. Tim Boza and Corey Cotham had conspired to commit a "criss-cross murder scheme." The plan was grimly transactional: Corey would kill Veronica for Tim, and in exchange, Tim would murder the ex-husband of one of Corey's girlfriends.

Evidence confirmed that Corey executed the murder, using the stolen weapon to end Veronica's life. Following the shooting, Corey stole Veronica’s iPhone, which later provided the digital evidence needed to map his movements, as the phone's path mirrored his own. Financial gain was a primary driver for the conspiracy; Corey expected a $35,000 payout for the hit, while Tim stood to benefit from a $550,000 life insurance policy on his wife—a payout he greedily inquired about immediately following her funeral.

Justice Served

The legal aftermath saw both men held accountable for their roles in the heinous crime. In February 2012, Corey Cotham was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder and especially aggravated robbery, receiving a sentence of life without parole plus 25 years. Tim Boza, who had testified against his partner, was sentenced to life in prison six months later, with the possibility of parole after 51 years. The case stands as a haunting reminder of how personal grievances and financial desperation can escalate into calculated, lethal violence.
