📋 Summary

The Rise and Peril of Priscilla Davis

Priscilla Lee Childers was born into humble beginnings in Dublin, Texas, but spent her life seeking an escape from her origins. After two failed marriages—the first to Jasper Baker and the second to wealthy car dealer Jack Wilborn—Priscilla found herself trapped in a marriage defined by verbal and emotional abuse. Seeking to reinvent herself, she adopted a platinum-blonde aesthetic, often compared by contemporaries to Brigitte Bardot. This transformation, however, only served to alienate her from the conservative high society of Fort Worth, who viewed her as a social climber and a "trophy wife."

The Oil Tycoon and the Cycle of Abuse

In 1967, Priscilla met Cullen Davis, a wealthy oil tycoon and son of the legendary Kenneth "Stinky" Davis. Their affair was exposed by a private investigator hired by their respective spouses, leading to a messy, public divorce. After marrying in 1968, the couple moved into the opulent Stonegate Mansion. However, behind the facade of luxury—which included a 2,000-square-foot master bedroom and a six-by-eight-foot oil painting of themselves—Cullen’s behavior turned increasingly violent. He was not only physically abusive to Priscilla, breaking her nose, but also displayed horrific cruelty toward her daughter, Dee, and murdered a kitten in a fit of rage. Despite this, Priscilla remained tethered to him, trapped by her complete financial dependence on his fortune.

The Night of the Murders

By 1974, the abuse became intolerable. With the help of her maid, Cora, who provided $1,500 in savings for her escape, Priscilla filed for divorce. The legal battle was bitter, with the judge freezing Cullen’s assets and ordering him out of the mansion. On August 2, 1976, hours after a court ruling increased his alimony payments, Cullen allegedly returned to the mansion disguised in a black wig. He murdered Priscilla’s boyfriend, Stan Farr, and her 12-year-old daughter, Andrea Wilborn. Priscilla, despite being shot in the stomach, managed to escape and alert neighbors, explicitly identifying Cullen as the shooter to emergency responders.

The Failure of the Justice System

Cullen Davis was arrested and charged with capital murder, yet the subsequent trial became a masterclass in the manipulation of the justice system by wealth and influence. His defense attorney, the theatrical Richard "Racehorse" Haynes, launched a brutal smear campaign against Priscilla, painting her as a promiscuous "gold digger" and suggesting that Stan Farr was killed by drug dealers. Despite three eyewitnesses identifying Cullen, the jury acquitted him on all counts.

The Final Shock: Solicitation of Murder

Perhaps most infuriatingly, nine months after his acquittal, Cullen was caught on tape by the FBI soliciting a hitman to murder the divorce judge and his wife, as well as witness Bev Bass. He was again brought to trial, and once again, he was acquitted. Following these events, Cullen claimed to be a "born-again Christian," while Priscilla’s life spiraled downward into financial ruin. She eventually passed away in 2001, never having seen her ex-husband face legal consequences for his heinous actions. This case remains a harrowing example of how extreme wealth can subvert the pursuit of justice, leaving victims without closure and perpetrators free to continue their lives.
