Let's go back in time.
Today's word.
Oh, it's a good one.
Grueling.
Grueling.
Grueling.
G-R-U-E-L-I-N-G.
Grueling.
And we use this word as an adjective.
Something is grueling.
It was grueling.
Talking to my brother is grueling.
What does that mean?
That means talking to my brother is exhausting.
It's so stressful.
It's horrible.
Well, I don't have a brother Is anybody what's grueling for me?
Actually, you know, the other day I went on a hike.
I was hiking and usually I just go on nice trails.
But the other day I was kind of in the mountains and up and down these big rocks and it was a little bit dangerous and oh my god, it was really grueling.
You know, going out on the hike was okay, i was feeling okay, but coming back i was so tired, i was really exhausted.
It was a grueling hike.
Another example as many of you know, I live right now in the desert.
Oh yes, it's very hot, very dry, and the summers here are horrible.
In July, August, almost every day is over 40 degrees Celsius.
Sunshine.
Constant sunshine.
Every day.
It is grueling.
Oh, for me, it's terrible.
I'm dying out here in the desert.
Now, on the other hand, for many Americans, this year, 2015, it has been a grueling winter.
Super cold.
So much snow.
I'm jealous, actually.
A grueling exam.
If you're taking a test and the test was so difficult, it was so stressful, it was just unbelievable.
You could say I had a grueling exam.
I took a grueling test today.
Grueling.
Grueling.
Let's check out a dialogue.
Woo!
I had a grueling workout today.
Great!
What'd you work on?
Biceps.
Look at these, huh?
Hmm.
You need some more work.
Biceps.
Yeah, those are those muscles in your arm that make your arm look big.
Actually, triceps make your arm look bigger.
But everybody thinks biceps, you know, the little bump on the top of your arm.
Look at these.
Look at my arms.
The guy had a workout.
He was lifting weights.
And he wants to tell his friends, see, I had a grueling workout.
Look how big my bicep muscles are.
B-I-C-E-P.
Of course we have two arms, so as biceps, and the other guy says you need some more work.
That's not nice.
Yeah, do you work out?
Do you exercise?
Do you have grueling workouts, like if you go running, do you run really fast or really long?
Does it exhaust you?
If you do aerobics, after your workout are you dead?
Do you lift weights?
What do you work on?
Do you work on your biceps, your triceps, your quadriceps, which are in your legs?
Perhaps your calf muscles, maybe your abs, your stomach muscles?
Do you like grueling workouts?
When I was young, I loved grueling workouts.
But now that I'm getting old, no.
I love exercise, but I don't need grueling workouts anymore.
So let me know, especially you young pups or maybe even you older people.
Do you have grueling workouts?
Is there anything grueling in your life?
Yeah, grueling sometimes is okay, but too much grueling is not that good.
Let's check out the dialogue two more times.
Whew, I had a grueling workout today.
Great.
What'd you work on?
Biceps.
Look at these, huh?
Hmm, you need some more work.
I had a grueling workout today.
