Why are you brushing your hair in here?
This is not the bathroom.
What is going on?
Hair brushing is mandatory.
Is hair brushing mandatory?
Three, two, one.
Hi, this is Dottie from Emerson School in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Thank you for listening to the Eagles View Presents.
This week we will be discussing if the students could help improve one thing about Emerson.
What would you suggest and why?
We hope you enjoyed the Eagles View Presents this week.
Here are this week's panelists.
Abby.
Thea.
Emile.
Angela.
Emma.
Also Emma.
And Evie.
Okay, that was great.
Okay um, so i'm gonna go first.
I think if there was one thing that like we could improve here, i think it would be in like awesome, like letting like um, some of the younger kids and like speak out a bit more too, because i feel a lot like his eighth grade and just like we get the most like voice at Emerson.
So I think it would be like cool if some of the younger kids got to like share their opinions and stuff too.
Um yeah, there are a few things like I'd probably want to change about Emerson.
But the one thing so in the library there's mostly books for like, there's mostly books for kids and there's like only like one shelf for like, middle school students.
So i think maybe the library could have like more books for middle school students.
So yeah, how about you, emil?
I'd probably change.
Um, we'll have more electives.
I was looking back at the electives that were here when my brother was here and i was like whoa, these are so cool.
What happens?
Because our electives are not i more, maybe more choice, i don't know.
Um yeah, maybe tea time is good.
Yeah, i mean you kind of, There are lots of new electives.
They were a lot better.
Compared to last year, we kind of just sit there and drink tea.
Yeah.
They were really good.
It was so fun last year though.
Or not last year, like ages ago.
It was our first elective like of the third trimester yesterday, Emma.
No, not compared to guys.
Hey angela, what would you say a long time ago?
Um, oh my gosh.
Um, so many things uh shoot, uh.
So i wish that we that to improve our school or just to like change something.
Maybe we could have more like.
This is just my opinion, i don't know if everybody would like it, but i wish that we had more like, kind of like, instead of a lot of um, if say, um in a certain class we have like Something like coming up like a big project or like a test or something.
I feel like the classes before that should be more like lectures, kind of like what Victoria does.
Like, you know, we all huddle up and it's like a little story time.
She tells us about how the Romans fought the Carthaginians.
Carthaginians.
It's the same thing.
Carthaginians.
Carthaginians.
Sorry Carthaginians, and i just find it really interesting.
Anglo-saxons fought the vikings yeah, and how, um?
And i guess like i just find it pretty interesting and like we could take little notes like a little college class, so i just feel like That would be like more interesting, in my opinion, to go over, especially if we have something like
I agree.
Like, in science class about, I don't know, energy and wavelengths and, like, in math.
I mean, we kind of do kind of lectures like that in math, I guess.
Like, that's kind of what math is all about, but.
Yeah, stuff like that.
Are you just saying you want us to take notes?
No, like, lecture.
Notes are really boring.
Unless they're on computers.
I think that, like, one thing I would change is that longer passing... Whoa.
I would make there be longer passing times.
Because like, a lot of the classes are really far apart and then we're late and everyone looks at you and it's really embarrassing.
Especially when you're like when you have like an impairment, so it's like hard to walk out yeah, but like there should be like longer passing times, just like let us get to the class and settle in and for people like use the bathroom, because like there are some people who need to use the bathroom between classes and if they just wait during the entire class or It'd probably be more convenient for them to like use it during passing time instead of just asking a teacher.
I agree.
I don't think that's just Emerson.
I think that's, like, all schools never really.
Oh, okay, never mind.
That's not all schools.
But to a few of the schools I've been to, they didn't have much long passing time.
Yeah.
Emma C, I am actually going to be a little bit delayed because surprise, we have a special guest star, Kashiata.
Kashiata.
Yay.
Okay, what's my question?
What would you suggest and why?
Because you were a student, i was um, one one wait, what's the word?
One thing that i'm glad that oh okay, one thing i'm glad improved is the buddies program, because that's super cool and student council was not a thing when i was here And I would have absolutely joined it.
And yeah, I'm like really glad that those two things are here, because that means that you all get to be, you know, leaders and show off your cool leadership skills.
And I think at least one of you is on council or see, there we go.
Like ambassadors.
Yeah.
Ambassador.
See, all of us are ambassadors.
Oh, see, there you go.
Those are all perfect additions to the school climate.
Climate.
This place running.
Love it.
But, yeah, that's all I have to add.
Amen to that.
I heard passing time.
Thank you, Kashiata.
You're so welcome.
Thanks, Kashiata.
Thanks, Kashiata.
Thanks, Kashiata.
Okay, now I'm going to see.
He was no longer being delayed.
Emma, go.
The other Emma just swallowed her gum.
Emma, go.
Don't you wear braces? and it's like it doesn't matter okay guys it doesn't matter stay on topic yeah i'm so sorry some people were being distracted anyways um i think that emerson is a lovely school um uh Maybe they're... Um, anyways, maybe, um... Um... Do you want me to go?
No, Evie, I can do this.
You just hit my impaired knee.
Um emma, you've had the entire time to think stop it, i'm going.
I have an idea.
Um, maybe we could have a longer lunch time.
Yeah um, because she's like no, she's like no, thank you, because no no, shouldn't have recess before lunch.
We're being famine exactly some days.
We have recess, then then lunch, and then Jim, we haven't even had enough time to properly digest our food, and then we have to go and run And recess.
Running is optional.
So that's why it should be after lunch.
Exactly.
And then we're starving.
We are exhausted.
We're tired from learning all day.
And then we just have to go outside and expect to be happy by playing.
But I would be more happy if I got to eat and then got to play.
Yeah, every every time before, i agree, i agree.
Every time during um, what's it called gym?
I feel like i'm gonna throw up because i just, you know, i just ate my spaghetti and meatballs and i'm they're like you gotta play volleyball.
Plus, you're lactose intolerant.
You eat a lot of dairy at lunch.
Guys, i don't relate to this because i don't have gym after lunch.
Well, lucky you, evie.
Um yeah, We should have lunch before recess.
I would say that we should meet with our electives a lot more than twice a week.
Yeah.
Like maybe every day of the week.
Yeah, every day of the week.
Or like our block, which is ours.
Or we could just, like, not have advisory in the afternoon or something.
And we get it three times a week.
But elective is only one trimester and we only get it once a week.
Yeah, so what I think we should do is like, instead of like the art, health and speech and communications, we should do our music block then, and then we could, and then every time after we could have our electives.
Are you proposing music block and elective in one day?
That seems like too much.
That seems fun.
Yeah, it'll be fun for, like, the first.
Because every week we can change, like we can have like elective, we can have like elective like three days a week, and then um, what's it called music block two days a week, and the next week we don't have music block three days a week, elective two days a week, or something like that, like the schedule last year.
Yeah, it's like even them out.
Okay abby okay, i have a few.
Okay no, i have a list.
Yeah, i took notes.
Okay, i definitely think like, what could add to our school is like some vending machines, you know because oh yeah, didn't we used to have vending machines?
We did.
And then i think vending machines could be like a good way to like, for example like yeah, student council, so they can like make money through that.
And then another one is specifically for mr wood um added Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo Geo, Geo.
Yeah algebra yeah, it should not yeah, it should be now in geometry yeah, geological geometry.
And then my last and final one is more field trips, because oh yeah, oh yeah no, we've gone on two guys, we're getting a whole week to be in florida, not a whole week, It's like four days.
Yeah, it's like four days.
I know.
Dottie, would you like to share something?
Yeah, Dottie.
Okay.
Oh, wait, guys.
I had one.
Wait.
Do you want to go first?
I was just going to talk about the vending machine.
And I remember talking with some eighth graders last year who are now ninth graders.
And they said that it would be too, what's it called, expensive to refill it.
Yeah, because also at first you have to buy one.
But Emerson is also really rich.
Well, you got to get your money back.
You got to.
Guys, there's like 400 kids who pay like $25,000 a year to go here.
I think that they can afford a vending machine.
It's going to take a while for them to actually start getting profit.
Student council only has like $500 in their budget.
Only?
Yeah.
Actually?
That's so sad.
We don't even need a new playground.
Yes.
Can we talk about that?
I want to keep the freaking pirate ship, guys.
We do not need a new playground.
Oh, my God.
We can have some rent.
I like the idea of the things they're going to add, but I don't really...
I don't really think that we should... Quiet down, guys.
Quiet down.
Yes, there's going to be a whole water park this summer.
That's actually really cool.
No, it's unnecessary.
They could be using that money for something else.
It's cool.
Guys, guys, guys.
Guys, one person at a time.
Angela, go.
And then Emma.
Are we talking about the playground?
Yeah, the playground.
I think that it's cool.
Like, the stuff that we're adding is pretty cool, but I just don't think that we should change the whole thing, because some people spent their whole childhood on that pirate ship.
Some people ran out in fourth grade, took their pizza with their friends, climbed up.
With their stuffed animal dogs.
Yeah, climbed up, climbed up the like little wooden um climbing thing to not get trampled by the big kids and ate their pizza on the silver bars.
I remember that pizza outside yeah, when it was warm.
Emma um yeah, i wait.
Which one?
The play?
Oh wait, you or c?
Either either i'm gonna go, you can go after me, okay.
Okay, i'm gonna see you go, i'm gonna see.
Um yeah, i feel like the whole new playground thing is kind of unnecessary.
Like you, you could fix some things and like like evie was saying, like maybe make some things more accessible.
Yeah yeah, i guess you could add some things, but like we're, we're adding a whole water like thing for the summer or maybe even for when it's warm here.
But we're not even going to be able to, like, use the water thing for, like, the whole winter.
We live in Michigan.
I mean, I feel like it's also it would be they're adding like outdoor classrooms, which would, which I think is good.
Well, that's cool.
That's cool.
Yeah, that's good, but like You should use the money instead of buying like a whole new playground to like do something better, you know.
Also, I feel like they don't need donations.
Also, I feel like they don't, like, need donations for it.
I know, but also, like they already like obviously have the money for it, though the only good thing they're doing is i don't think that's that, that that we like need donations for either.
I think it's a waste of money.
They have like a jazz night for like some of the grown-ups, but like like, maybe you could also do a dance.
Oh yeah, we need a prom.
Guys, what?
I'm a... Go, it's not your turn.
Why are you sharing my last name?
Okay, I'm gonna go, I'm gonna go.
Okay anyways.
So I think that we, so like you, know how they've been taking like everything out over the course of like three years and only and we are the people that have to leave before they actually put stuff back in.
So we've had to suffer through like a nothing playground for so long and nothing.
Also, I remember when I was in Jumpstart to Kindergarten, me and my friends we would go there and eat bagels in the pirate ship and then we would pretend to be pirates, and then they're just taking all those memories away.
Um, I just want to say that, um, some of this might be, uh, jealousy.
Uh, I'm just saying that because, because, you know, none of us are going to be able to play on it.
Cause you know, we're all eighth graders.
So, but it is kind of, I'll come back.
Oh, yeah, we can come back for, like, homecoming.
Yeah, we can come back, but also, it is kind of idiotic, because, you know, I mean, sorry.
Not fully unwise to use this money.
Well, I'm just a kid and I don't have any idea about the concept of money or taxes, or mortgages or anything.
But like I mean they could spend it on better classrooms or more children or I don't know something else.
More children.
You don't buy classrooms, too.
You don't buy children.
Oh, my goodness.
Goats would be amazing.
New, like, outdoor things.
Gym equipment.
An actual field hockey field.
I don't think we can.
Yeah, but no, we're playing for a whole playground.
Fix up the soccer field.
Yes, a track, a track, a track.
No, I think they are adding a track.
Yeah, they are.
Which is really good, because we have to run the mile like We have to run over all the hills and sometimes there's mud.
It's slippery.
It's scary running the mile.
It's like a swamp.
We have to run the mile in a swamp.
Especially in the springtime, too.
It's scary.
I've tripped a few times and gotten soaked, so I'm happy they're adding a track.
And then, like, the people on track don't have anything to run on.
Also, if you're listening to this, we should all riot and create a prom for the eighth graders.
We need an awkward middle school dance.
I want to be asked to a dance.
I want to feel special.
I want to feel loved by somebody.
High school is next year.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, wait, guys.
Guys, you ready?
Okay.
Yo, Monique.
Okay, guys ready, okay.
