Hey, Story Pirates Podcast listeners, Lee here!
This week, we have a brand new mixtape for you from DJ Squirmalot to help celebrate going back to school.
It's full of your favorite Story Pirates songs, and maybe even a few that you've forgotten about.
Get ready, cuz here it comes, right after a few words for the Grown Ups!
Hey Grown Ups! Season 7 of the Story Pirates Podcast is right around the corner, and it's time for your kids to send us their own stories, but maybe they don't know what to write about?
Luckily, Story Pirates is partnering this season with The Week Junior, an incredible magazine that kids can't wait to read.
Every issue of The Week Junior has a section called Photos of the Week that is full of photos that are great to tell an imaginative story about.
Grown Ups, as part of our partnership, you can get 6 free issues of The Week Junior for your family delivered right to your mailbox by going to theweekjunior .com slash Story Pirates.
And don't forget, the Story Pirates Amazing Adventure Tour continues October 5th and 6th with shows in Connecticut and New Hampshire.
You can find tickets at StoryPirates .com slash Live.
Now, back to the show.
Grown Ups, squirmy wormies, it's your worm, DJ Squirm -a -lot, the world's greatest DJ who also happens to be a worm.
And guess what? Summer is over!
Time to put away your tiny worm sized food floaties and get ready to go back to school!
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!
I know some of you are already back at school, but continuing education classes for worm DJs always start after Labor Day, so here we are.
However, I must confess there is honestly so much I need to do before my classes start.
I haven't packed any lunches, I haven't gotten any school supplies, and worst of all, I don't have any new looks.
That's L -E -W -K -S, looks, you know, cool clothes to impress my classmates and teachers.
Now, I don't spend a lot of money on new looks every year because a great look isn't about being fancy or expensive.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Looks can be affordable and they can be anything.
They just depend on who you are and what kind of look you're going for.
One thing that can be helpful when finding new looks is to ask for help from someone you know, maybe a grown -up you know, or a friend.
You can ask them to come to the store with you and give their opinion when you try on stuff.
As for me, I have a really special way that I find the right look.
I bring along my friend, Lee, from the Story Pirates, but not because he has good taste and fashion.
In fact, Lee has the worst fashion sense I've ever seen and that's exactly why I need him.
You see, when I try on clothes for Lee, anything he likes I refuse to wear.
And anything he doesn't like, well, that's what I know.
It's probably a good look.
But you have to keep that part secret, okay?
If Lee finds out that I use his fashion sense like it's opposite day, it'll ruin my whole plan.
Ooh, he comes out. Hey, DJ Squirtlot.
Hey, Lee. Thanks for coming over to help me find some new looks.
No problem. I know I have pretty great fashion sense, so it's probably really helpful for you to know what I like.
Yeah, that's the ticket.
Keep on thinking that.
Wait, why did you say it like that?
Like what? Like that, all slow and with a big pause in between the words?
Oh, don't worry about it, Lee.
I'm excited to take advantage of your great fashion sense.
Okay, whatever. Let's just get started.
Sure thing. Let me just step behind this privacy screen and put on the first outfit.
And then when you come out, I'll tell you if I like the outfit.
Okay. This first one is kind of sporty.
I'll just wriggle into it.
And okay. What do you think, Lee?
It's just a spandex tube.
Well, sure, Lee. I'm a worm.
All of our clothes are tubes.
Okay. Well, I love it.
It looks like you're about to go jogging or something.
Okay. Lee likes it.
I'll just wriggle out and put this one on the no pile.
Wait. What do you mean the no pile?
I said I liked it. Next outfit.
This one's kind of a cowboy look.
Okay. And here it is.
What do you think? Hmm.
Now you're wearing a denim tube.
Yep. Like worm cowboys wear.
I don't know about this one.
I'm going to say no.
Okay. So this one goes on the yes pile.
Wait, but I said - Next outfit.
How's this? I'm not sure how I know this, but is that a tank top you're wearing?
Sure is. This look is definitely a yes for me.
Onto the no pile. But - Next outfit, how's this one?
Sparkly sequins tube?
Yep. That's a no for me.
Into the yes pile. Hold on.
DJ Scromalot, what is going on here?
Every time I say an outfit is a yes for me, you put it in the no pile.
And then when I don't like an outfit, you put it in the yes pile.
You notice that, huh?
How could I not notice it?
You know what? This is probably a great time for me to play our first song.
Squirmies, this first track comes to us from Eli, a six year old in Massachusetts.
And it's also on the brand new Story Pirates album, Key Change World.
Here's the alien that discovered banana bread.
I'm an alien on another planet and I own a store.
But I'm not a success, I'm not a true success.
Despite any stretch, oh that's for sure.
All the other aliens, they have been discovering new amazing foods to taste.
But I've yet to find any kind of dish that I can sell to my customer base.
I've tried mixing together ingredients, anything I see.
All in the hopes of stumbling upon a new recipe.
I'm an alien on another planet and I own a store.
Putting all types of foods together, looking for something more.
I've mixed together crackers and ice cream, then grapes and hummus.
Couldn't stand them, they were bad.
I tried tuna fish and orange juice, cereal and broccoli.
Do it, made my tummy sad.
Now I only have two foods left.
Will they work? Don't know.
I guess I'll throw them together now.
Here I go. I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, with bread.
I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, with bread.
I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, with bread.
I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas, And roll, roll, roll, roll, roll, roll, roll, roll, Here goes nothing.
Blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub -blub.
Hey, it's not bad. No, it's better than not bad.
It's good. Wow. Banana and bread.
Hmm, what should I call the dish?
Oh, I know! Cheesecake!
No, wait. Banana bread!
I did it! And all it took was a dash of perseverance, A pinch of faith in myself, and also the ingredients.
I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas, and bread.
I'll mix bananas and bread, and do I a banana bread?
I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas, and bread.
I'll mix bananas and bread, and do I a banana bread?
I'm an alien on another planet, and I own a store.
Yeah, I can see the sign.
It says banana bread store.
It's where I sell my banana bread.
Would you like to try some?
Hey, this is not that bad.
Scratch that. It's the best thing that I've ever had.
We want some too. What a meal!
A real deal! Is it broccoli and cereal?
Ha ha! Close! I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas, and bread.
I'll mix bananas and bread, and do I a banana bread?
Everyone got it? Yeah!
You mix bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas, and bread.
You mix bananas, and bread, and do I a banana bread?
You mix bananas, I'm an alien on another planet, and I own a store.
You mix bananas, it's where I sell my banana bread.
Bread, bread, bread, bread, bread.
I'll mix bananas, bananas, bananas, bananas and bread.
I'll mix bananas, and bread, and now I have banana bread.
Welcome back to the Story Pirates, back to school mixtape 2024!
I'm your host DJ Squamala, and today I'm trying out new looks with my buddy Lee!
Now hold on DJ Squamala, what is going on here?
Do you like my fashion sense or not?
Of course, I do. Lee?
There you go again saying everything real slow like!
Who? Me? You know what?
I think that you talk slow when you're lying!
What? That's absurd!
Lee? Oh yeah, well then let's test it.
First, tell me something that we both know is definitely true!
I'll play your little game, Lee!
I'm the best DJ in the world who also happens to be a worm!
Obviously a true statement, now tell me something that we both know is not true!
Let's see, Lee is also an incredible DJ and all the worms know it!
You said it's slow!
No! I didn't! Come on, own up DJ Squamala, you think I have bad fashion sense don't you?
Fine! I admit it! I knew it!
Lee, I can explain and I will, right after this next song!
Lemmies, this next track comes to us from 7 -year -old Etta in Michigan!
It's called If Dogs Could Do the Boogie!
Good morning and welcome to Doggy Dance Class!
Today we'll be learning how to do the lawnmower!
Reach down and pull up like you're starting a lawnmower!
And then just do that for the rest of the song!
Uh, Teach, can we do something different?
This one is dance! It's tradition.
I know, but couldn't we learn how to do something cool?
Like the boogie? Yeah, I want a boogie!
What do you say? The boogie?
But, um, uh, fine, but just this once, okay?
Does everybody know how to boogie?
I don't know either!
I never boogie. Well, I don't know either!
Oh! But you're the teacher!
I know, it's my secret shame.
Maybe I could help.
Where's your boogie doggie dog?
Woah! It's a super cool dog in dancing shoes!
Who are you? I'm a dog, who knows how to boogie.
Oh yeah! Yeah, let's do it!
Alright, Pup -a -ronies, I got a new dance for you all!
It's called the Doggy Boogie, and it goes like this.
Real cool doggie in my dancing shoes!
Got a dance so fresh, so nice, so new!
It's easy, dawgs, just do what I do!
And damn, pretty soon, you'll be boogieing, too!
Just step to the left and step to the right!
Put your paws out like you ready to fight!
Whip your tail around like you fly in a kite!
You a doggy by day, but you boogie by night!
Spend two times like you're about to lay down!
Change your mind! Something else is on the ground!
Smith it, then give a little nibble!
This beat so tasty!
Sweet, you call it gibble!
Hop one time then a hop once more!
Lift up my back leg, but don't soil the floor!
Put it back down, what's next in store?
I hit that doggy boogie, and I run up the score!
What's up? Do the boogie, doggy boogie, doggy boogie!
Do the boogie, doggy boogie, doggy boogie!
Doggies boogie, boogie doggy boogie!
Boogie doggies, two -way doggy doggy boogie!
I don't get to student, now I'm doing it!
I know all the doggy boogie movements!
Got the right rhythm, and I got the right rhyme!
Ain't no doggy leaving when the doggy knows it's Boogie Time!
Hop through the boogie in my hoodie from the side to side!
Put my head up the window like I could full ride!
Doggy doggy, and a little doggy chop the slide!
Pass the student two, cause it's time to hit the boogie vibe!
Spend two doggy boogies, always goes over!
Real good dog on the mic, call me Rover!
Thunder jacket tech as you know, I always wrap it up.
If the beat is water, then you know that I will lap it up!
Doing doggy boogies and it never grows old!
Pop to my nose and the nose stays cold!
Doggy boogies easy if you do what you're told!
Come into the chorus and you know we go bold!
Do the boogie, doggy boogie doggy boogie!
Do the boogie, doggy boogie doggy boogie!
Doggies boogie, boogie doggy boogie boogie!
Boogie doggies, two -way doggy doggy boogie!
I can't believe I never knew how to boogie!
I was always such a goody goody!
But now I'm a boogie and I'm having a ball!
Like a person set my name and I answer the call!
This is what I was meant to teach ya'll!
Do the doggy boogie like there's no leash laws!
Boogie doggy turn me into a fan, And everybody come and clap your hands!
Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap doggy!
Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap boogie!
Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap doggy!
Clap clap clap clap clap clap clap clap doggy boogie!
Professor? Yes? I think I heard the bell run!
We're done boogie dog, what do you want to tell them?
Well, I'm sure I'll say everybody well done, All so that I'm dope and I'm out, and you're welcome!
Do the boogie doggy boogie doggy boogie!
Do the boogie doggy boogie doggy boogie!
Doggies boogie, boogie doggy boogie boogie!
Boogie doggies, do those doggies doggy boogie!
Hey there, Jack! Sing a song for us, will ya?
We love your music!
Yes, indeed, alrighty!
Just throw a couple dollars in this here hat, And I'll make ya smile in seconds flat!
How's all your kids, pigs and cats?
Tom, pole and soul?
Oh, my 29 kids, 85 cats and a whole lot of pigs, they're great.
Listen to the tale.
My name is Jack, I love to sing and play guitar.
Well, I stand here and I busk most days from morning time till dusk.
Yeah, that's just what I do.
I got 29 kids, don't forget the pigs, 85 cats, that's right.
Well, I love my little children and I'll sing it all day until I hit the hay and feel all right.
We all feel all right.
We all feel all right.
Then one day I was strumming, feeling something was askew.
Couldn't tell quite what it was, but in my heart I just knew.
And suddenly it hit me in the middle of the day.
One cat, one kid, one pig had gone and run away.
I got 28 kids and I'm missing a pig, 84 cats, that's wrong.
Well, I love my little children, wonder where those three went, should be home where they belong, home where they belong.
Daddy, don't you worry about us.
We decided to go out ourselves and busk, la la la la.
We've been practicing our music very long, so we're gonna play a concert and sing our song.
Oh, where could they be?
Well, I'd give anything to know, just then a person dropped the flyer in my hat for a local show.
They said, this trio's famous, check it out now if you dig.
They play and sing so well, one kid, one cat, one pig.
I could not believe it, so I ran down to the show, and right there before my eyes, it was a wonderful surprise.
They waved and looked at me.
There they were all three, with so much talent for their hates.
They were playing mighty fine, up on that big beautiful stage.
Oh, what a sight to see.
Look up there, my children are so joyful and so loud.
They're better now than me and I couldn't be more proud.
But please don't run away again.
I know you understand that we all should stick together and start a family band.
I got 29 kids, don't forget the pigs, 85 cats, that's right.
Well, they'll love my lovely children and I'll sing it all day till I hit the hay and feel alright.
We all feel alright.
We all feel alright.
We all feel alright.
DJ Squirtmulot, don't you have something to say to me?
Lee, I'm sorry, it's true.
I think that you have bad fashion sense, but the truth is, if it's not bad to you, then it's not bad.
What do you mean? The way you feel about fashion is very personal.
And the only opinion that should matter is your own.
So if you don't like my fashion, it doesn't matter?
Not at all, Lee. And the truth is that your fashion works great for you because it fits your personality.
Okay, good. Because I actually have a great new outfit that I love that I want to show you right now.
Uh oh. What was that?
I mean, great. Okay, just stepping behind the privacy screen, putting on my look, and...
Okay, what do you think?
Lee, you're just wearing a full body cat costume.
Uh huh, it's my favorite new look.
You know, I'm not sure it's something I would ever wear, but for you, Lee, it's really working.
Do you mean it? Yes, your fashion sense is uniquely you, Lee.
Great work. Thanks, DJ Squirm, a lot.
That actually means a lot.
What a heartwarming moment.
But not as heartwarming as this next song.
From seven -year -old Taylor in Rhode Island, he is the Bear who couldn't disco.
Once there was a bear named Brenton.
Brenton. Brenton. But Brenton wasn't like all his other bear friends.
All of his friends could disco, and he loved to watch them do all the cool moves.
But Brenton just couldn't dance like them.
All the other bears can disco, but I can't disco.
Tell me what's a bear to do.
I just want to disco like the other bears.
I just want to disco like the other bears.
And if I could disco like the others, oh, wouldn't that be fair?
I want to disco like the other bears.
Brenton was so sad, he ran away from home, from home.
He ran far into the forest one night, one night.
Then Brenton got tired, and he laid down on a rock as the moon shone full.
And Brenton called out to that moon in the sky.
All the other bears can't disco, but I can't disco.
Will my dream ever come true?
I wish I could disco like the other bears.
I wish I could disco like the others.
I wish I could disco.
And I'm gonna listen, and listen instead.
Brenton, I hear your prayer.
Go on, run home now.
You can disco like the other bears.
Brenton went home and ran into his mom.
Hi, Mom. My baby. His mom said, don't forget, the disco contest is tonight, tonight, tonight.
So Brenton went down to the contest, and he stepped right up onto the disco floor.
Yeah, Brenton decided to give it a try.
A try, a try. All the other bears can't disco, maybe I can't disco.
Take a breath, there's only one thing now to do.
All right, wow, look at me, I'm dancing.
I'm disco -ing. Check this out, everybody.
So cool, Brenton. That's awesome.
Check this out. Brenton, he could disco like the other bears.
Brenton, he could disco like the other bears.
Brenton, he could disco like the other bears.
And he won first class at the contest for all his disability.
And Brenton was happy.
He could dicke like the other bears.
And after watching Brenton groove, all the other bears tried out his disco move.
That's his story of Brenton the disco -ing bear.
And that's his story of Brenton the disco -ing bear.
Yeah, that's his story of Brenton the disco bear.
Do you believe my son is a bear?
Mom, Mom, the song is over.
So embarrassing. Hey there, squirmy -wormies.
We've got more on my back -to -school mix tape coming up after a few words for the Grown -Ups.
Hey, Grown -Ups. Season 7 of the Story Pirates podcast is right around the corner and it's time for your kids to send us their own stories.

Now, back to the show.
Welcome back to DJ Squirmalot's Back to School mixtape.
Time to smash that spacebar and hear another hot track.
This one's from an 11 -year -old in Colorado named Joanna.
He is Blackbird Bluebird!
Hello, I'm Joanna. My name is Joanna.
When the day is done and I dream of a Blackbird, I wish that we were near.
And when I open my eyes, I always long to hear the song of the stars.
Wherever we are, we'll bring our hearts together.
The song of the stars in the day of the dark, we can sing our love forever.
I am the Blackbird at night.
I chirped to guard the moon, and all the bluebirds I sleep when my work is through.
That's when her day starts, her song is for the sun, without our singing.
Down will come undone.
The song of the stars.
Wherever we are, we'll bring our hearts together.
The song of the stars in the day of the dark, we can sing our love forever.
There was a time when the night met the day.
When the sun and the moon became one, we found a way to be with each other.
In a town, down stood still.
And the stars go singing our songs, so everyone can feel.
The song of the stars.
Wherever we are, we'll bring our hearts together.
The song of the stars in the day of the dark, now we can sing our love forever.
The song of the stars.
Wherever we are, we'll bring our hearts together.
The song of the stars in the day of the dark, now we can sing our love forever.
The song of the stars in the day of the dark, now we can feel.
The song of the stars in the day of the dark, now we can feel.
Once upon a time I was an ice cream man.
I had an ice cream van and a business plan.
My van played a tune worth its weight in gold, when it played every ice cream sold, even in the cold.
One day I drank some pickled juice and all that changed.
See, the juice made me transform into something strange.
Now I sell cucumbers that are bumpy and green, just like me.
And all my ice cream customers are nowhere to be seen.
Cause I'm a cucumber for life.
Cucumber for life. Selling cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
I'm a man sized fishy in a van, I'm selling cucumber sticks.
They're good, trust me.
Meanwhile, across town, a young foodie named Imogen was about to make a discovery.
I was traveling down in Munchtown when I heard the news.
Something new to eat down on Dudik Street.
It's true the population's only three, but I raced to see if it could truly be.
My favorite tree sold on the street.
Cucumbers. Cucumbers for sale.
Cucumbers. But it's at the van.
Instead of a man, a cucumber.
Oh, a customer. Business has been slow.
That's so sad you have no customers.
I feel sorry for you.
I don't think you have any ideas.
Maybe if you had a more thematically relevant van with better music.
That could work. Hey, this is giving me an idea.
That cucumber man and his noise, the van, they were wrong.
So I built a fickle tower dump, got a cucumber and I sold my home.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
We play hard rock and we play death metal and they're cute so cold and fresh.
All the people came and together they sang the name of the food truck that's the best.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
Cucumbers for life.
And only images. And only eyes.
Lived happily. Lived happily.
Ever after. I'm so green and so sad And only I, Imogen, lived happily, happily, ever after I'm sorry cucumber man Don't worry about me Imogen, I'm a cucumber I'll be just Brian Balloon in space I've conquered land, I've conquered sky Made it to the other side No more danger, nothing is stopping me Now
I float throughout a space Feel the starlight sweet embrace Safe to say that nothing's popping me Then I'll witness through the void A fast approaching asteroid Maybe I spoke too soon I'm ready to meet my doom I knew I would surely die At the moment we collide I opened my eyes, the asteroid just popped
I'm incredible I'll keep on floating, floating Keep floating to the top Don't ever ever drop Just keep on floating, floating I hope I'll never stop I hope I'll never pop I never doubted for a minute The universe rock I know at windy Check the scoreboard, I'm the champion of space I was wrong as a black
hole Dark as lightlessness I'm told I definitely spoke too soon Both earlier and right now In constant darkness I'm submersed This balloon is shot to burst I opened my eyes, the black hole just popped I'm the king of space I'll keep on floating, floating Keep floating to the top Don't ever ever drop
Just keep on floating, floating I know I'll never stop I know I'll never invincible I'm space infusible That's the thing I just made of Cause I'm invincible in space Unstoppable, unpopular No longer prim or probable I'll pop the next thing I see in this place Right now there's a knife floating there
Technically that's called a space knife Is it sharp as if I care?
I don't care No I won't fear for my space life So come on and face me You cannot erase me You're the one who's gonna pop Huh?
What was that? Oh I think I popped that balloon You did pop me space knife You were a worthy adversary What?
Worthy? I wasn't really trying so It was destiny Okay!
Nice to meet you too!
