Studies show that cold exposure can elevate dopamine levels by up to 250% above baseline, with the increase being sustained for several hours. This creates a state of "alert but calm" that is highly beneficial for cognitive performance and wellbeing.

4. Supplements and Compounds

  • Caffeine: Can upregulate dopamine receptors, making you more sensitive to dopamine, though it should be used judiciously.
  • L-Tyrosine: An amino acid precursor to dopamine. While effective for short-term focus, its use should be intermittent to avoid the inevitable "crash" that follows.
  • Yerba Mate: Contains caffeine and antioxidants; some studies suggest it may have neuroprotective properties for dopaminergic neurons.
