Crucially, warming up the body (increasing core temperature) and avoiding absolute muscle failure are key. For women, peak GH response often occurs in the first 30 minutes, whereas for men, it occurs later.
  3. Thermal Stress: Deliberate hyperthermia via sauna (e.g., 20 minutes at 80–100°C, followed by a 30-minute cool-down) has been shown to induce significant, sometimes 16-fold, increases in GH. This is likely due to hypothalamic neurons involved in temperature regulation being intermixed with those controlling GH release.
  4. Supplementation: Arginine and L-citrulline can boost GH through the nitric oxide and vasodilation pathways. Huberman notes that L-citrulline is often more effective than direct arginine supplementation, though users must monitor blood pressure closely.

Scientific Perspective on Modern Trends

Huberman addresses the growing use of peptides (e.g., Sermorelin, Ipamorelin) for longevity and performance. While these compounds can stimulate GH release by mimicking natural releasing hormones, they carry the risk of altering gene expression and potentially stimulating unwanted tissue growth. He stresses that while these tools are becoming prominent in fields like the entertainment industry, they should be treated with extreme caution and professional medical oversight.
