China and Brazil have agreed to elevate ties to a community with a shared future for a more just world and a more sustainable planet.
This follows a meeting between their Presidents and Brasilia.
Sue Yuting has more.
China and Brazil had issued a joint statement following talks between their Presidents in Brasilia.
And in a statement, the two sides agreed to elevate ties to building a community of a shared future, which features a more just world and a sustainable planet.
With relations at their best point in history, China and Brazil have agreed to synergize their respective development strategies.
And in terms of cooperation, the two sides will focus on key areas including finance, infrastructure development, and technological innovation.
High -level exchanges will also be promoted in defense and defense industry.
Both sides have also agreed to dis -thickening the 2026 as China -Brazil year of culture to develop ties and enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples.
Brazil reaffirmed its commitment to the Wang China principle and affected Taiwan as an inalienable part of China.
China and Brazil also expanded on the six -point consensus on the common understanding of the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, which was jointly issued in May as an example of the alignment on international peace and security.
That was Su Yuting reporting.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has described Sino -Brazilian ties as an example of unity and cooperation between major developing countries.
He was speaking after talks with his Brazilian counterpart in Brasilia.
The two leaders reached a new strategic consensus on the future of China -Brazil relations.
Ulei has more from Brasilia.
President Lula has emphasized the importance of the China -Brazil relations.
And he said that two countries have had very fruitful cooperation over the past 50 years in trade, investment, and cultural.
And now the two countries hope to expand cooperation.
And he emphasized the energy transition several times.
We have been hearing this very often and he said the two countries would expand cooperation in clean energy, renewable, and also he wants to have collaboration with China, especially AI digital economies, artificial intelligence.
And President Xi Jinping said this is his fifth visit to Brazil.
And Brazil has become the country in Latin America that he visited the most times.
And he's very happy to have bilateral meetings with President Lula.
And the two countries have very fruitful collaboration over the past 50 years.
And he also quoted from the football star Pili that the most beautiful goal is always the next one.
So the most fruitful collaboration will be expected between China and Brazil.
And many believe that President Xi's state visit will enhance this kind of relations after in a new golden 50 years.
And two countries hope to enhance this kind of collaboration.
Now, Ulei reporting.
China and Brazil have signed nearly 40 cooperation documents during the Chinese president's state visit.
The deals cover areas such as trade and aerospace.
Dan Williams says more.
A key element of this state visit was the announcement of these 37 different trade agreements.
And they go across a whole range of different industries, from tourism to agriculture, technology, film, energy, education.
We've also seen the creation of synergies as these two countries move closer together between China's Belt and Road Initiative, along with Brazil's development strategies as well.
And there was also a declaration of a joint formation of a China -Brazil community of a shared future for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet.
So pointing at different ways that the two economies can find greener ways for a sustainable economy and putting also an emphasis, of course, on the global south and their developing economy.
And that was Dan Williams reporting.
For more on China -Brazil ties, Hong Na spoke to Professor Wang Yiwai from Remen University of China.
President Xi Jinping has announced eight action plans to boost global development.
So as a major economy in the global south, how can Brazil work with China to implement these actions?
Well, China and Brazil are all two leading global south countries.
Brazil also has a similar initiative, like zero hunger and also anti -poverty, which China definitely has a lot of experience to share with the global south.
In the past four decades of the opening reform, China lived the poverty of more than 800 million people.
But today's world still has 800 million people living in hunger.
So China put forward a global development initiative, particularly a focus on SDG, 17 goals.
Particularly for the anti -poverty.
So Chinese modernization now are more attractive to the global south.
We definitely share with Brazil, because Brazil is a leading country in Latin America and also in the BRICS.
So China and Brazil jointly work together to make sure that the SDG goals can be achieved.
President Xi Jinping has stressed the role of global south countries at the APAC and G20 gatherings.
So why is the voice of the global south so important?
And how can these countries cooperate to advance their common interest?
Personally, the global south is an evolutionary narrative.
At the beginning, the European said that civilization, barbarism, and advanced backward countries.
After the end of the World War II, Americans represent the developing and the less developing countries.
This is also a discrimination to those countries actually.
So the global south is more equal to the global north.
Even when some people go further, the global south actually is a global majority, which represents more than 80 percent of the world population.
On the basis of the population, but now even in the economy, there is also an overtake of the global north.
But the political power actually, on the contrary, maybe 20 percent, even less in the IMF, in the World Bank.
So firstly, we need to reform the international system towards this more inclusive fairness and balance.
So that's the reason we have the BRICS, we have the new development banks.
And secondly, we have the climate change and the AI revolution.
The global south without enough electricity or suffered over the high price of the electricity or unstable supply of the electricity.
So how can they benefit from the AI revolution and digital civilization?
So global south we should work together to make sure AI for good, the people centric mentality to be implemented in a global governance and globalization more inclusive to the equal participation.
Now, this professor, Professor Wang Iwai from Renmin University of China talking about China -Brazil ties.
China -Brazil trade has been increasing steadily this year.
Trade hit over 1 .1 trillion yuan.
That's approximately 158 billion U .S.
dollars in the first 10 months of this year.
That's an increase of almost 10 percent.
China's been Brazil's largest trading partner and export destination for the past 15 years.
And Brazil has long been China's top trading partner in Latin America.
Paulo Cabral has more.
China's electric car maker BYD, the leading seller of EVs in the country, is planning to build a factory here.
However, BYD's relationship with Brazil dates back to 2017 when they started producing solar panels at a plant in the Sao Paulo countryside.
So it's a huge market even for bus tracks, now solar panels and also the automotive sector.
And now we are seeing that everything is growing and Brazil it's one of the most important markets for BYD worldwide.
Besides the consumer products, there is also heavy investment from Chinese companies in Brazil's infrastructure, energies among the highlights, with growing participation in generation assets and also in transmission lines badly needed to carry power across the country.
From 2010 to 2022, investment from Chinese companies, a state -owned enterprise, a small immediate enterprise, has entailed around $70 billion.
So China has become the largest trading partner and the largest investment in Brazil.
When it comes to exports, agriculture is the top sector for Chinese investment with big purchases of products such as beef, corn and above all, soybeans.
China is Brazil's main customer for agricultural commodities.
However, exports are highly concentrated in just a handful of products.
This officer from Brazil's farming confederation, CNA, says producers in the country are working to expand the range of products offered to China.
In recent years, fruit consumption has increased among Chinese consumers.
CNA sees potential in further expanding fruits and nuts exports.
We want to do business with China.
We want to maintain this partnership at this moment when diplomatic relations are complete in 50 years.
We want to keep this for the long term.
We want this partnership to be increasingly enduring because it is a market full of opportunities for Brazilian products.
The governments of Brazil and China have already made it clear that both sides are interested in deepening commercial ties and businesses to further strengthen bilateral trade and investments in the future.
That was Paulo Cabral reporting.

11 minutes past the hour.
UN Security Council members have criticized the United States for again vetoing a draft resolution that called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The draft demanded an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, as well as the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
The US is the only Security Council member to vote against it.
Jody Jacobs reports from New York.
While 14 Security Council members voted in favor of this latest ceasefire resolution, the United States voted against it.
The US blocked the measure, claiming it would only support a legally binding document that explicitly calls for the immediate release of all hostages.
This was the twelfth time since the war began that the Security Council voted on a resolution about the Israel -Hamas conflict in Gaza.
Only four have been passed.
But Security Council members across the border have criticized the United States, with China saying history will be the judge.
That was Jody Jacobs reporting.
And for more, Lael Kun spoke to Aynor Tangen, a senior fellow at the Taiha Institute.
The council voted overwhelmingly in favor of the resolution.
Fourteen of its 15 members voted yes, including US allies Britain and France.
US vetoed it. America said that they vetoed it because it was not linked to an immediate release of hostages taken by Hamas in October 2023.
First of all, how do you view the explanation given by the US?
You have to remember this is the fourth time that they vetoed a Security Council resolution and it follows a pattern.
There are negotiations that the US side asks for a lot of concessions.
And then in the end, they veto it.
In this case, they said it was not only hostages, but this inclusion of this unconditional, they said it has to be unconditional truths.
So it's just a ceasefire, I should say.
And this is just, as I said, a pattern in practice.
They have no intention of going against Israel.
Well then what is the intention of the US in these vetoes?
This is the problem that I think everybody has, including even close allies like Britain and France.
They said, what is your endgame?
You want to wait until all these people are dead?
We can't stand by and be an accomplice to what is in essence.
It's a genocide. Our people and our conscience says that we have to do something, and they're frustrated.
They're sitting through these negotiations, they see exactly what the US is asking for, and then on the day of the vote, boom, comes down, veto.
And it's an indication clearly that the US has no intention of doing anything about the situation in Gaza and Lebanon, that they're going to let it just kind of explode, do whatever they want.
They're going to continue to supply bombs, bullets, weapon systems.
So it's really turning into a fiasco.
It's isolating the United States, and it certainly is not helping Israel, which has now become a pariah state.
That was Einar Tangan, a senior fellow at the Ta 'a Institute, talking about the US veto of a UN Security Council draft resolution concerning a Gaza ceasefire.
The Palestinian presidency has denounced the United States for vetoing the UN resolution that called for the ceasefire and an end to Israeli aggression in the Gaza Strip.
It's the fourth time Washington's vetoed such a resolution at the Security Council.
The Palestinian presidency said the US was encouraging Israel's actions against the Palestinian and Lebanese people while defying international law.
Meanwhile, Hamas said the US move proves that it's a direct partner in the aggression, responsible for killing children and women and destroying civilian life in Gaza.
14 of the UN Security Council's 15 members supported the draft resolution.
UN Security Council's discussed a proposal to transform Haiti's security mission into a UN peacekeeping mission amid escalating gang violence.
The US proposed the shift in September to secure funding for a multinational force aiding Haiti's national police.
Dorothy Shea is the Deputy US Ambassador to the UN.
The United States is confident that this Council can once again come together to evolve our response to the crisis in Haiti and determine the appropriate mandate of a potential peacekeeping operation to effectively address the current context and learn from past lessons and avoid harm and repeating
of mistakes. Let us heed the consent of the host country and its desire for stability, security and a Haitian -led political solution through free and fair elections as soon as possible.
Haiti's UN representative urged members to vote yes for the mandate, citing the urgent need for regional stability.
Ukrainians reportedly fired its first volley of British storm shadow cruise missiles into Russia.
This comes a day after Ukrainian forces launched US long -range missiles.
Britain had previously allowed Ukraine to use storm shadows within Ukrainian territory.
However, London has yet to confirm if it permitted Kiev to fire the long -range weapons into Russia.
Meanwhile, Russia has vowed to respond if Kiev is allowed to use long -range missiles against Russian territory.
Dasha Chernyshova reports from Moscow.
Well, indeed, Moscow believes that there is the general line and the tendency of the outgoing American administration to escalate the situation, to add more to the fire.
Russia insists that it will respond to any attempt by the Ukrainian side or the Western side to attack Russia's sovereign territory.
Now, we haven't had any confirmation with regard to the storm shadow missiles.
However, there have been several media reports about that as well in the Russian media.
We have seen the attempt by the Ukrainian armed forces against Russia's branch region where the attack on its missiles were used.
And Moscow has updated its nuclear doctrine, lowering the threshold for the possible use of nuclear weapons.
Moscow insists that it is still open for any sort of negotiations with the Ukrainian side, however, and with the American side.
But it does know that Russia's concerns will have to be met.
And Russia insists that freezing the conflict along the confrontation line is not an option for Moscow at the moment.
Speaking about the possibility of attack against key offense, the warnings from the embassies, we have heard the Kremlin saying that it is the prerogative of the Russian Ministry of Defense to define the course of the operation, because indeed, many political analysts and military experts here have been
saying that one of the likely scenarios at this moment would be that Moscow would escalate its strikes against Ukraine to demilitarize the country and to minimize the threat from the Ukrainian side.
How is Dasha Chernyshova reporting?
Several thousand NATO troops have taken part in artillery drills in Finland for the first time since the country joined the military alliance.
More than 3600 soldiers and around 1000 military vehicles took part in NATO's largest dynamic front artillery exercise in Finland's Arctic, less than 100 km away from the Russian border.
The exercise focuses on cold weather operations and interoperability using one of Europe's largest firing ranges.
Finnish liaison officer -captor Alexander Siron highlighted Finland's expertise in sub -zero conditions.
Finland joined NATO as its 31st member in April.
The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency is welcomed to Iran's move to cap its stockpile of highly enriched uranium, describing it as a step in the right direction.
Speaking at the IAEA board meeting, Rafael Grossi mentioned his discussions with the Iranian president.
It is clear that the accumulation of enriched uranium at very high levels has been a matter of concern for many around the world.
And this is why I requested the Islamic Republic of Iran to exercise restraint, not only to exercise restraint, but also if possible to stop increasing the stockpile of 60 percent uranium.
And I have to say that this request of mine was accepted by Iran.
The IAEA verified that Iran had begun implementing measures aimed at halting the increase of its stockpile of uranium enriched to 60 percent uranium -235 at two enrichment facilities.
Despite this progress, Grossi noted that Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium had grown since his last report on the country's nuclear program.
He emphasized that the agency would continue to exchange views with Iran on the capping of highly enriched uranium.
Regarding the IAEA board meeting, Iranian Foreign Minister Syed Abbas Arachi warned that Iran would respond appropriately if any anti -Iran resolution emerged during the session.

At 21 minutes past the hour, the central Chinese cities held an international academic conference with domestic and international scholars sharing their understanding of human rights.
Liu Jiaxin has more from Changsha.
From Chuyuan of the true states wiping tears for the hardships of the people, to Tao Yuanming of the eastern Jin Dynasty's learning for a paradise, the ancient Chinese people's understanding of human rights and their yearning for a happy life have been expressed over the ages.
At Yuenlu Academy, one of the world's oldest institutions of learning, domestic and foreign philosophers, jurists and historians gathered to transcend geographical barriers and learn from the wisdom of history.
As early as the Southern Song Dynasty, the textbooks of Yuenlu Academy gave wonderful explanations of Confucian propositions, such as, there's no distinction between classes in education.
People are similar in nature, but different in habits.
All people in the world are brothers, and people are more important than the king.
In ancient China, sages have already discussed human rights, including political rights, civil rights and cultural rights.
Their wisdoms have been passed down to the present day, not only being widely praised and carried forward by the Chinese people, but also resonated among the international community.
The Italian lady who gave the keynote speech in Chinese is Giuseppina Marciani.
Based on her years of research on the history of China and Italy, she said the two countries have commonalities in the understanding of human rights.
Italy and China both have a long and excellent history and culture.
We should use culture to create peace and human rights.
What we call human rights means that everyone should have a good life, education and medical care.
But the most important condition is peace.
Our two countries should work together to create human rights for the people of the world.
Consistent with the ancient advocacy of Putin people first, participants said the world today needs human rights more than ever.
Regardless of the size of a country, the length of its history or the differences in their views on human rights, more people should be given the opportunity to live a happy life.
That was Liljeshin reporting.
China's research output continued to grow rapidly this year with Beijing maintaining its position as the top science city in the world.

Climate activists have gathered at the United Nations Climate Summit in Baku to demand new deals before the end of the meeting.
They called on developed economies to pay their share of climate finance to support global south countries in adapting to climate change.
People from civil society and movements are calling for both the global north governments to pay up for climate finance and to pay up in the scale of trillions, not billions, because communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis in the global south need this money for adaptation and mitigation,
but also for loss and damage because they're bearing the brunt of a crisis they had the least role in causing.
COP 29 President Mukhtar Babayev asked negotiators to clear away the technical part of the talk so they can focus on substantive issues.
Vulnerable nations are seeking 1 .3 trillion US dollars to deal with climate change, including building their own clean energy systems.
Experts agree that at least a trillion dollars is necessary, but the figure still exceeds the offers made by the developed world.
Texas is offering a parcel of rural ranch land along the U .S.-Mexico border as a staging area for potential mass deportations under President -elect Donald Trump.
Republican Texas Land Commissioner Don Buckingham has sent a letter to Trump extending this offer.
We do hear through back channels that they are taking a look at it and considering it, but we just want them to know we're a good partner, we're here, we want to be helpful, we really prioritize the safety and prosperity of our communities, and we want to keep our children safe.
The offer is the latest illustration of a sharp divide between states and local governments over Trump's immigration policies.
The Trump transition team did not immediately respond to the offer.
About 1 ,500 migrants have left southern Mexico attempting to enter the U .S.
before Donald Trump takes office due to fears of border closures and mass deportations.
The migrants, mostly from Central and South America, cite limited job opportunities and overwhelmed immigration offices in the Mexican state of Chiapas as reasons for leaving.
Trump's presidential win has heightened migrant concerns, as he pledged to again restrict refugee resettlement and warned throughout the campaign of mass deportation.
A 23 -year -old Venezuelan migrant said she fears conditions will worsen if Trump takes office.
I don't know. We have to wait.
We have to keep walking.
We have to wait for him to become president and decide what to do with us.
We are all waiting for his answer, whether he will let us cross into his country or he will deport us to Venezuela.
This is the sixth caravan to leave the southern border in less than two months.
Large groups of migrants moving together en masse has become more common in recent years.
The head of the U .S.
disaster agencies warned about funding shortages.
It could affect the agency's ability to respond to future disasters and a Senate hearing on disaster relief funding.
Deanne Criswell said that the current fund stands at less than five billion dollars after two hurricanes this year.
FEMA has already provided more than 7 .8 billion dollars in federal assistance for hurricanes Helene and Milton.
And this amount includes 3 billion dollars for individual assistance and 1 .7 billion dollars for public assistance.
But these needs have rapidly exhausted our available funds and without a supplemental, our ability to respond to new disasters could be jeopardized.
Agencies use the fund for expenses such as debris removal, rebuilding public infrastructure, and providing financial assistance to disaster survivors.
Criswell also said that the agency is still paying out recovery funds for over 100 disasters that are currently on the books.

China's United Nations ambassador has denounced the US veto of the latest Security Council draft resolution concerning a ceasefire in Gaza.
Fu Cheng was speaking on the sidelines of the Security Council meeting.
The veto is a responsibility, not a privilege, and not something that they can use so irresponsibly to protect their so -called allies.
Had the draft resolution been adopted, it would have demanded immediate access to basic services for civilians in the Gaza Strip.

China now has the world's largest 5G network after accelerating construction on infrastructure for the internet over the past 12 months.
The 2024 China Internet Development Report at the World Internet Conference in Wuzhen says China's 5G base stations totaled 3 .8 million by the end of June.
The country's 5G users currently exceed 60 % of the people on the internet in China.
74 industries have applied 5G technology in areas such as manufacturing, mining, electricity and healthcare.
The mobile industry now supports over 32 million jobs worldwide, and two -thirds of the global population utilizes mobile services.
Nearly every sector depends on mobile technology.
For more, Olivia He spoke with Zhong Hoofman, the CEO of the Global System for Mobile Communications, to discuss how the mobile industry will fuel economic growth over the next decade through the implementation of 5G.
How do you think the mobile industry will keep boosting economic growth over the next 10 years?
So mobile has been at the core of economic growth.
We contribute trillions of US dollars around the world to economies big and small, developed and developing.
It's been a true driver of economic impact.
With 5G becoming more and more common, what new industries and business ideas do you think will pop up?
The enterprise sector is going to benefit from 5G, 5G Advanced and ultimately 6G, but what we're seeing now is the transformation of businesses large and small around the world.
Everything from manufacturing sector being remade, using technology to the education systems around the world, using technology to educate our young people in ways that they've never foreseen in the past.
So it's really a transformational opportunity that we have here with 5G.
FinTech, medical research, the practice of remote surgeries that we could only envision in the past is now becoming the wave of the future.
So 5G is a very much transformational technology, one that is going to impact all of our lives now and then well into the future.
And what do you see as China's role in shaping global innovation in 5G technology going forward?
China has been one of the leaders of 5G, obviously one of the first to implement the 5G technology, one of the first to now evolve it to 5G Advanced.
It is the largest country.
We have more users of 5G technology here in China than we do anywhere in the world.
So it's one of the global leaders.
It's a showcase for the technology and that's what the GSMA wants to do, is help bring that innovation, showcase that innovation, showcase the use cases that have been successful here to other parts of the world, to learn not only as China has learned from others but to export that learnings to other
countries that are now maybe just adopting 5G.
That was CEO Zhong Hoffman of the Global System for Mobile Communications.
The internet has profoundly changed the way Chinese people interact with the world.
According to the latest statistical report on China's internet development, the country's internet users reached almost 1 .1 billion at the end of June, up 7 .5 million compared with the end of last year.
That means 78 % of China's population is active on the internet.
One area of massive growth is the surge in short -form videos.
The number of users is 36 % of the total internet users.
Another area that has witnessed rapid growth is live streaming with almost 800 million users, or about 70 % of total internet users.
Short video and live streaming are now increasingly integrated into online shopping, improving user experiences.

Beijing unveiled a special snake -themed version of the 2022 Winter Olympic mascot, Bing Duan Duen, to celebrate the upcoming Chinese lunar year of the snake.
The mascot marks the third anniversary of the Beijing Winter Games.
Chief designer Lin Sun -Jian says the design of the accessories on the mascot's head were inspired by a peeking opera love story between a man and a female snake fairy who transforms into a beautiful woman.
We drew inspiration from the hair accessories worn by the performers of the peeking opera The Legend of the White Snake.
These accessories incorporate the elements of the snake which were transformed into exquisite decorative pieces.
We thought the design is really good so we learned from the idea to use the snake as a headgear.
The new version of Bing Duan Duen will be available for sale in five Chinese cities including Beijing on Friday before a nationwide release in December.
