And today we'll bring you the first episode of a nine -part special report that delves into China's journey toward sustainable development.
Now checking today's top stories.
The Chinese Commerce Ministry has announced policy measures to boost the growth and stability of foreign trade.
The measures include expanding China's exports of commodities like agricultural products, – increasing financing for foreign companies and support for small trading firms and developing cross -border e -commerce.
The ministry says financial institutions will be encouraged to provide more products to manage currency risk and keep the yuan stable.
Li Shun has more from Beijing.
China is rolling out targeted measures to boost foreign trade and to assist enterprises in navigating global markets.
According to the General Administration of Customs, China's foreign trade imports and exports grew by 5 .2 % year on year in the first 10 months of 2024.
The Vice Minister of Commerce says that China's economy shows great resilience and is withstanding external challenges and impacts.
Now there are three major aspects to these measures.
first is expert credit insurance and financing support, especially for small giants, small and medium sized companies that are leading forces in niche markets and also for invisible champions which refers to companies that may not be well known to the general public, but usually often supply key parts and solutions that bigger companies rely on.
Now these companies tend to be innovative and crucial in driving growth and competitiveness in their fields, the goal is to help them reach new markets and strengthen industry chains.
Now, to address exchange rate challenges, the People's Bank of China says cross -border trade settlement will be optimized.
Business will gain access to advanced risk management tools and a stable R &B trade exchange rate environment.
Now, secondly, it's to cultivate a new driver in growth, for instance, cross -border e -commerce.
The Ministry of Commerce says that it remains a major and key element in China's foreign trade.
The Ministry reiterated its full support to the development of cross -border e -commerce.
And also, local governments are encouraged to provide essential resources to these cross -border e -commerce enterprises, for instance, in legal and tax.
And also, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that China plans to attract more global business leaders by continuing to expanding visa -free policies and extending stays and providing faster processing for business visits.
Now last but not least, we will see stronger maritime transportation and labour support for foreign trade enterprises which will help them reduce operating costs and give them a better position in the global stage when competing with foreign enterprises.
Now, together, these measures aim to energize China's foreign trade for a more sustainable future.
That was Li Shun reporting.
China's foreign trade grew steadily in the first 10 months of the year.
Official data shows that foreign trade grew 5 .2 % from January to October, reaching over 36 trillion yuan, or around 4 .9 trillion US dollars.
Exports increased by 6 .7 % or in imports grew 3 .2%.

The forum included in -depth discussions through keynote speeches, dialogues and parallel forums.
Senior diplomats and experts attending the EU -China forum in Brussels have called for stronger EU -China cooperation amid growing global challenges.
Nearly 500 participants discussed advancing ties ahead of the 50th anniversary of EU -China diplomatic relations next year.
The head of the Chinese mission to the EU said cooperation between the EU and China has thrived over the past 50 years.

The second China -U .S.
People's Dialogue is taking place in Beijing.
The event brings together Chinese and American people from all walks of life, including tourism, science and technology sectors, as well as sports and arts.
Of course, I hope to see more and more sports exchanges.
While playing sports, you must cooperate with teammates and compete with opponents.
It is very suitable for young people from different countries and regions to exchange and understand their strengths and weaknesses." "...
for me, I mean, partly because I'm an anthropologist, people to people exchange is basically my job.
I want to understand China from the perspective of Chinese people, how they perceive it, how they view it.
And then I want to try to help sort of transmit that perspective and translate it to an American audience." Political instability has brought a range of challenges to China -U .S.
relations. One example, on November 19, a U .S.
Congressional Anti -China Advisory Panel caught for ending the country's permanent normal trade relations with China, a status which has been in effect for more than two decades.
That's not a good step, I think that we can negotiate, we can change the relationship, we could even try to modify it in our own interest instead of the other purpose interest but I think you have to keep it going.
It's already a doing harm, anything in business involves companies, the stock market trade, it not only just affects businesses but it affects ordinary people like you and me.
So yeah it's a very serious decision.
Art is one of the most powerful and important ways to bridge gaps.
When governments are facing tensions, when economies are competing, when the newspapers are telling very depressing stories, the arts are crucial to keep the ties between people together at a very basic level so that, again, we don't get lost in the tension, we don't get lost in the controversy, we continue to see the beauty and the humanity in each other." This event was jointly hosted by the National Committee on US -China Relations and Tsinghua University, and more than 100 participants have gathered here with hopes of developing People -to -People ties despite political differences.
Gautianqi, reporting.

Russian President Vladimir Putin says the Ukraine conflict has taken on global dimensions after attacks by Western missiles on the Kursk and Brionska regions in Russia.
He said that Russia reserves the right to target military facilities of the countries that have used their weapons against Russia.
On November 19th, six US made operational tactical missile systems, attackers, and on On 21st November, during a combined missile attack, the U .K.
made missile systems storm shadow, and US -made Haimas hit military facilities in the Bryansk and the Kursk region of the Russian Federation.
Since then, as we have repeatedly emphasized, the regional conflict in Ukraine provoked by the West has acquired elements of a global character." Putin vowed that Russia will respond decisively in case of escalation in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, he confirmed that Russia has successfully tested a new medium -range ballistic missile in response to enemy action.
Dasha Chineseova reports.
We're hearing from the Kremlin, the general line, which suggests that the outgoing administration of Joe Biden is adding more fuel to the fire and tries to make this conflict escalated as much as possible.
That is the accusation that the Kremlin has actually issued after the storm -shadow missiles have been intercepted, and after six attack of missiles were fired by the Ukrainian site against Russia's Briansk region shortly after Ukraine got the permission to strike targets deep inside Russia with the U .S.
supplied weapons. So definitely in Moscow there is the perception that this conflict has been escalated.
Moscow is pointing at the United States saying they are interested in that, but also the Russian ambassador to the United Kingdom say that it is the UK that is now also directly involved into this conflict.
The idea in Moscow is that the use of those types of weapons is impossible without the satellite data and the navigation systems coming from the Western countries, and therefore these Western countries are directly involved into the conflict.
Having said that, Maria Zahara spoke to the Russian foreign minister on Thursday addressing the issue of the new US base in Poland, which she said was yet another provocative step in a series of deliberate provocative and escalatory moves by the Western countries.
She said that base was, if necessary, put to the Russian list for potential destruction if Russian interests were actually attacked and if there was any sort of attack against the Russian Federation.
So certainly we are hearing that escalation on both sides, but Moscow here is saying that it is the Western countries that are doing everything possible to make this conflict as much as possible before the new administration in the United States takes the Oval Office.
Now, as Dershow Chenechova reporting.
Ukrainian President Volodymy Zielinsky says a Russian strike on the central city of Dnipro with a new type of missile is a clear and severe escalation.
This comes after KIV launched U .S.
and British -made missiles into Russia.
Moscow responded by firing the new hypersonic medium -range ballistic missile at a Ukrainian military facility.
Magumilim has more from Kyiv.
Well, this latest missile attack against Nipro has come, as tensions have significantly risen between Ukraine and Russia with all that has happened this week.
The U .S. lifting restrictions on Ukraine's use of the American -supplied Atacams Missiles against targets inside Russia and reports saying that Ukraine has also for the first time used the British -supplied Storm Shadow missiles against targets inside Russia and this week Russia having lowered its threshold for a nuclear strike with its updated nuclear doctrine and now with this latest missile attack Ukraine accusing Russia of having launched for the first time an intercontinental ballistic missile these are very powerful missiles that are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead but Ukrainian president
accusing Russia of using Ukraine as a testing ground for these ICBMs he's saying that experts are currently investigating what weapon exactly was used.
But according to preliminary analysis, he's saying that the speed and altitude of the missile matched that of an ICBM." Now it's Mago Milim reporting.
The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency has warned that nuclear safety remains in jeopardy at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southeastern Ukraine.
Twice in the last few days, the facility security has lost connection to its remaining power line.
IAEA Director General Rafael Groszys, as the first disconnection on the weekend, lasted for over 30 hours.
It was caused by unspecified damage about 17 kilometres from the power plant.
The plant lost connection again on Thursday.
The Russian -controlled nuclear facility now relies solely on a single power line to connect with Ukraine's energy grid.
Ukrainian officials have warned that if this final connection fails, the plant could experience a complete blackout, creating significant risk for a nuclear accident.

The UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East says the war in Gaza is the UN's biggest best test ever.

But there is a fear factor that is very clearly available at the West Bank as well because Sometimes they see that the struck news are crumbling." Richland said he is worried about the Israeli economy since the war began.

We believe that it is approved that justice and the long arm of justice will reach anyone who violates the norms that humanity decided that cannot be violated, especially the most egregious atrocities like war crimes and crimes against humanity.
It is certainly an important day also for humanity as a whole.'' The international criminal court's warrants include Benjamin Netanyahu, his former defence chief U .F.
Galant, and Hamad's military chief accusing them of crimes against humanity in connection with the war in Gaza.
The action by the ICC came as the number of people killed in Israel's campaign in Gaza has passed 44 ,000.
According to local health authorities, more than half of those killed were women and children.

But we do not yet see enough political appetite from the parties to find a real resolution to this conflict, which, of course, at the end of the day, has got to be about handing control back to the people, as was the heart of the revolution in 2019 and continue the work of building an integrated professional national military which I know the SAF leadership wants to see." The US envoy met Sudanese officials, including General Abdel Fattah Burhan, as well as civil society and aid workers to push for improved humanitarian access.

Away from high -level discussions and negotiations, the urgent need to cut emissions has emerged as a recurring theme in many speeches at the UN COP 29 climate conference in Azerbaijan.
As one of the world's largest carbon emitters, China has pledged to pique its CO2 emissions before 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
To delve into China's journey toward sustainable development would bring you a nine -part special report titled, Green China, A Journey to 2060.
Today, Yang Yang presents the first episode, Ecological Restoration, Growing Awareness Among Chinese People.
The population of Shutanjing has dropped to the hundreds from 130 ,000 in the 1990s.
The town of Xu Tianjin, which means koyo well, is located on the northern part of Hehe Land Mountains in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
Ecosystem supports all life on Earth.
A healthy ecosystem acts as a natural carbon sink with forest, wetlands, and marine habitats capturing and storing carbon dioxide in biomass, soil, and sediment.
Experts emphasized the crucial road of water in this process, so we went to waterstarved northwest China in August to get a snapshot of the conditions regarding ecological restoration in the country.
As we entered the town in the afternoon, the first thing we noticed was rows of two -story terraced houses With rusty window frames and grass sprouting from the roofs, most of them seem abandoned.
Further along, we came across shops, video theaters and a barbershop, all looking like they are from the time of my childhood, 30 years ago.
This area used to be one of China's most important coil fields.
62 -year -old Gong Yeong was born here after her parents moved to the place in the 1960s when coal mines mushroomed on a large scale.
With the development of coal mines, the town became so popular in the 1990s that it was known as Little Hong Kong, you could buy anything you want here.
People were rich and many relatives came to join them for better living." This prosperity, however, also came with environmental issues.
In the past, the air would teak with pollution.
As soon as you arrived, your clothes would be covered in dust as if you'd just come out of a coal mine.
Coal washers were scattered almost everywhere.
The town used to have only two colors, black and brown.
Black from the coal and brown from the tailing rocks.
The sky would turn black whenever a sandstorm hits.
Did people have any sense of ecological protection?
No. It seems we got accustomed to the rocks and mountains.
We paid little attention to the surrounding ecology.
China has undergone rapid economic growth since its opening up over four decades ago.
In recent years, the country has greatly enhanced its focus on environmental protection.
In 2016, the Chinese government launched the Shen Shui Initiative, a plan to restore 10 million hectares of natural landscapes, ranging from mountains to coastal asteroids through 75 large -scale restoration projects by 2030.
In the same year, China initiated its regular nationwide patrol on environmental protection.
It was around the same time that Ningxia began regulating mining activities along the Helei Mountains, the local people recollected.
Hanyin began to close the mines in 2015.
All mines without legal procedures were closed.
It was a tough drop, as it affected interests of many miners.
Many were reluctant to leave the town.
Some cried, should Hanjin gradually lost his prosperity.
They told me they got compensation from the government.
The workers were dispatched to mines and other places in Ningxia.
Some transferred to ecological protection -related posts like aforestation.
Yu Yang from the local Department of Natural Resources added that Ningxia has been exploring the development of other industries.
We are expanding grape cultivation and wine production along the Hella Mountains.
Tourism is also promoted in the region.
Hu Rei is a researcher at the Northwest Institute of Equal Environment and Resources under the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In recent years, the country has expanded efforts to raise public awareness of ecological and environmental protection.
An awful environment is bad for your health.
The community holds events on environment days.
We didn't do garbage sorting in the past.
Because now it's different.
Living in a good environment makes you happy.
The local enterprises, while managing the costs and every possible aspect, also agree that their investments in ecology are worthwhile.
Yuan Gui used to run a gravel pit.
Now he's the owner of Yuan Shu Van yard, a private winemaking company.
When people make ends meet, they start seeking more spiritual fulfillment.
It would be odd if humans were only once living on Earth.
It's sweet to hear birds chapping, right?
Bye ... from state -owned Mei Hua Jin Coilman in northeastern Ningxia.
We doubted our efforts in environmental restoration at first because it was very costly.
But now we find it encouraging to see the area transformed into a green space.
Staff can relax here after work, and more wildlife has been returning.
Departments dedicated to environmental protection have been established, not only in government institutions nationwide but also in enterprises, particularly in state -owned companies.
There were a handful of people who initially didn't understand the move.
They eventually shifted their mindsets after witnessing significant improvements in their living environment.
I was one of those miners.
Now, I work in vegetation restoration.
Those seniors who used to work in Shetangjin returned here often, and they would marvel at their improvements.
As one of the few natives, Gu Yihong often works as a volunteer tour guide in her spare time.
She also grows vegetables and shares the produce with tourists.
The local ecology is turning much better.
It was impossible to grow veggies in the past.
Shoutanjing, once known as Little Hongkong, is transforming into a filming location, with few visitors around when we visited during the summer break.
Currently, its population is around 300, with daily visitors peaking at about 3 ,000.
I hope our town will recover its prosperity in the near future.
While I'm telling the story of a mining town in northwest China, I must point out that ecological restoration is not only for mining areas.
Hooray, the ecological expert, told us that it refers to the recovering process of any ecosystem that's been damaged." There are also other factors to consider, such as water pollution and land degradation.
This reminds me of herders on degraded grassland on Qinghai Sizan Plateau when we visited them back in 2021.
My grassland couldn't fill the stomachs of my yaks and sheep anymore.
When we visited them again in April this year, those herders were working closely with the government to restore their grassland.
But Hurei pointed out that many people's understanding of ecological restoration is still limited.
We should keep planting trees, one generation after another.
Human intervention can't restore damaged ecosystems, it's like how medicine does little to cure a common cold, compared to natural recovery.
The aim is to restore the ecosystems natural functions and get its systems cycling independently.
In simple terms, for example, water should be retained for moisture.
The natural purification functions of the soil should be restored.
Over the past century, China's approach to ecological restoration has evolved from tackling specific environment issues to fostering healthy ecosystems with a greater emphasis on biodiversity and ecosystem integrity.
However, to restore an independent and healthy ecosystem is easier said than done.
Our efforts often focus on large -scale graining projects, and success is measured more by investment scales rather than by the integrity of an ecological system.
Stay tuned for our next episode on ecological restoration, where we'll explore the efforts made by the country in this regard.
