Today is Tuesday, the 15th of October, 2024.
Starting in Asia today, Lebanon's Red Cross has said that 18 people were killed in an Ayatul region yesterday.
This was the first Israeli attack in the Christian majority Ayatul region since the start of the war.
Israel's army said that yesterday it sent 1 .7 million texts and 3 .4 million voice messages, and also made thousands of phone calls, telling Lebanese civilians to evacuate areas in southern Lebanon, where it would be continuing its ground invasion.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for a drone strike on an Israeli base, which killed four Israeli soldiers, and there were air raid sirens across Israel yesterday, as Hezbollah missiles and drones were fired into Israel.
The United States has said that it will install a new advanced anti -missile system in Israel, and that United States soldiers will remain in Israel to operate it.
China launched military exercises all around Taiwan yesterday and said that they were a quote, warning to the separatist acts of Taiwan independence forces unquote.
Taiwan has been completely separate from China since 1950, and is a liberal democracy.
However, Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that Taiwan must be reunited with China, and that force could be used if necessary.
On Mount Everest, partial remains of the body of a British mountaineer have been found 100 years after his death.
Andrew Irvine died on Mount Everest in 1924, as well as his partner George Mallory.
It is still unknown whether Irvine and Mallory were the first people to reach the top of Mount Everest.
The first known ascent of Everest was in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Napali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.
On the Malaysian island of Borneo, authorities have destroyed the homes of hundreds of sea nomads, who generally live in wooden houses above the sea.
The nomadic people have lived in the area for hundreds of years.
However, the authorities from Malaysia's Sabah region say that they were living in illegal constructions in a marine park.
Americas. In the United States, a man has been arrested and then released in California during what may have been a third assassination attempt against Donald Trump.
49 -year -old M. Miller has denied that he was planning to shoot anyone.
Chad Bianco, the sheriff of the county of Riverside in California, has said that he believes Miller was trying to assassinate Trump, and said that Miller was arrested for weapons charges and for driving an unregistered vehicle and having fake passports.
The vehicle had an obviously fake license plate, and that prompted further investigation from our deputy into why the person was there and what he was doing.
During that investigation, the deputy eventually found multiple passports with multiple names, multiple driver's license with different names, in addition to a loaded handgun and a shotgun.
In Brazil, half a million people have been without electricity since Friday Power supplier Enel has been criticized for the delay in repairing damage caused by a storm on Friday in Brazil's biggest city.
Africa. In Sudan, at least 23 people have been killed in airstrikes in the capital city Khartoum.
Local media reports that the Sudanese army bombed a market area which is under the control of the Rapid Support Forces paramilitary group, which has been fighting Sudan's army for 18 months.
Nigeria's football team is boycotting an African Cup qualifying match against Libya, saying that they were treated badly when trying to arrive in Libya.
The Nigerian team said that their flight was diverted to another airport far from the stadium, and then they were locked inside the airport building while they were trying to leave.
Europe. In Turkey, there have been continuing protests against the recent murders of women.
There have been around 300 reported femicides in Turkey so far this year.
On Saturday, this podcast released a bonus episode in which I speak to Nesli, a Turkish influencer and English teacher about femicide in Turkey and about the Istanbul Convention, which protesters are demanding be reinstated.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that North Korea is providing personnel to Russia's army.
Ukrainian media has said that six North Korean officers were killed in a Ukrainian missile strike on the occupied region of Donetsk two weeks ago, and South Korea's defence minister Kim Yong -hyun has said that this is probably true, and that he believes that more North Koreans will be sent to fight
for Russia in Ukraine.
In Bosnia, tonnes of rubbish is clogging the river Neredva after floods last week, mountains of rubbish and debris is stuck around the Jablonika Dam.
And in Spain, scientists have said that the 15th century explorer Christopher Columbus was Jewish and was born in Spain, not Italy.
Using DNA from what are believed to be Columbus' remains, and also the remains of his son, the scientists said that they could determine that Columbus was a shepardic Jew.
