1. Closing the Loop on Mining

Instead of relying solely on virgin materials, we must prioritize "closed-loop" systems. Chi highlights advanced chemical recycling, such as the process used for lithium NMC batteries, which recovers materials to "virgin quality" at a fraction of the cost. By leveraging reverse logistics and advanced mechanical recycling, we can ensure that a growing proportion of industrial feedstock comes from waste streams rather than the earth.

2. Regenerative Growing

Agriculture is currently a major driver of ecological degradation, particularly regarding soil health. Chi champions "regenerative agriculture," which focuses on soil function rather than just output. By using AI and machine learning, farmers can better interpret soil data, moving away from a "black box" approach to one where they can actively manage soil microbiomes. Furthermore, he highlights the use of AI to accelerate selective breeding—not through genetic modification, but through mapping crossbreeding pathways to create crops like heat-resistant tomatoes, drought-tolerant cotton, and adaptive sugarcane. These innovations allow us to maintain yields while drastically reducing water, pesticide, and fertilizer inputs.

3. Scalable Large-Scale Repair

Beyond minimizing harm, Chi advocates for active, intentional repair. He discusses the use of remote sensing and satellite data, such as the work by Chloris Geospatial, to monitor biomass and verify restoration projects. However, he pushes for greater ambition through robotic intervention. He showcases drone technology capable of planting 100 mangroves per minute, enabling a small team to restore 80 hectares of land in a single day. He also introduces the "ReefGen" robot, which he helped develop, designed to plant live corals and seagrasses back into degraded marine ecosystems at an affordable price point.
