This process, known as aquamation—or technically, alkaline hydrolysis—is emerging as a compelling alternative for those seeking a more sustainable and compassionate end-of-life arrangement.
At its core, aquamation is a sophisticated chemical process that mimics nature’s decomposition but at an accelerated rate. The body of the deceased is placed within a "pressurized stainless steel vessel" and submerged in a mixture of water and alkaline. Furthermore, while it is generally cited as being "cheaper than a traditional burial," it currently remains "more expensive than cremation."
