Welcome to the Allie on the Run show.
I'm your host, Allie Feller, and welcome to TCS New York City Marathon Recap Time.
This trip was another one for the books.
There was the Sidney McLaughlin-Leveroni show.
That episode dropped earlier this week.
So now it is time for the time-honored tradition of Allie's New York City Marathon Recap.
If you are down for some one-on-one time, I am about to run through all the events, stories and details from my weekend in New York City.
I was in town this year hosting that live show with Sydney and New Balance and as part of the ESPN and ABC broadcast teams on race day.
What a sentence I never thought I would get to say.
I was at the start, I was in a car to the finish and then I was at the finish line grabbing interviews for the broadcast until 5 pm.
It was a hugely rewarding weekend.
It was so much fun, and I'm about to recap all of it for you as we do.
I will warn you.
I am recording this.
Let's see.
I had the New York City Marathon weekend from Friday to Monday.
Had a big interview on Monday before I headed back, which I will talk about.
Drove back, got home around 8 pm on Monday night and then was up very, very early to go to chemo on Tuesday.
So I'm recording this on Wednesday and I am admittedly not feeling the greatest.
This was a pretty rough chemo round.
I think my body was just so depleted going into it.
And then The premeds made me really sick.
I threw up a whole lot.
So I am just, yeah, riding that struggle bus today.
I would say I'm driving it, but I'm too tired to drive it.
I'm somewhere in the back trying to sleep.
So we'll see how this goes.
But before we start breaking it all down, I'd like to let you know that this episode is brought to you by Shox.
Shox, the official headphone partner of the TCS New York City Marathon and a longtime friend of the Alley on the Run show.
Shox has truly taken over and for really good reason.
These are my favorite headphones.
First, I love that they rest on top of your ears.
I hate having things in my ears, plus that's not safe.
Earpods have always been a no-go for me, but Shox fit perfectly.
They're so light and comfortable, you really won't even notice that they're on.
I love that the Open Run Pro model comes with a quick charge feature.
There have been.
So many times I've been headed out the door for a run or a walk.
I turn on my headphones and I hear battery low.
Well, I can't have that.
So I plug them in for a measly five minutes and they are fully charged.
Fully charged in just five minutes.
It is so nice, so convenient.
I saw shocks on so so so many runners this weekend in New York, and that happens every time I travel to a race these days.
Everyone is sporting shocks.
I have been yapping about these headphones for a lifetime, so don't you think it's time for you to see whether they're worth the hype?
And spoiler alert, They are, obviously.
Here's what you're going to do.
Go to Shoxcom that's S-H-O-K-Zcom, and use my code Allie A-L-L-I to get 10 off your next Shox headphone purchase.
Like I said, I love the Open Run Pro model.
That's Shox.com using code Allie for $10 off.
All right, time to recap the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon.
As always, I keep a note in my phone throughout the weekend and I try to write things down as they're happening, so I remember them and so I can chat about them later.
Usually I have lots of notes for the first day, medium notes for the second day.
By the third day, I've written next to nothing.
So hopefully I remember things as best as I can and we will get things started on Friday, October 31st.
So yeah man, New York City Marathon being on the first Sunday of November makes it tricky, because if it's early in the I don't know month cycle, then you have Halloween to contend with.
So this year it actually worked out well for me.
Annie alternates years or her dad and I alternate years with holidays.
And this was his year to have Annie for Halloween.
So I was able to travel to New York on Friday, Halloween.
I know so many parents who were in town for marathon activations went home for Halloween.
Came back the next day.
So shout out to all the parents who are truly just trying to figure out how to do everything, how to show up for your family, how to do things for yourself.
It's all a lot.
So I got to be with Annie on Thursday night.
She got to dress up for dance class.
So she wore her Halloween costume to dance and got to see that she was with me.
She was a leopard and she had a really cute costume.
And then Friday morning was the Halloween parade at her school, which is one of my favorite traditions that they do.
It's just so cute.
All the kids, from little babies up to eighth graders, are out there walking around the campus in their costumes.
It's really cute.
So I got to go to that.
And I also, because I have lots of friends, parents or her friends, parents at the school.
It was like good little, good little social hour before I got on the road.
So Halloween parade was super cute and it was the best little leopard ever.
And then I jumped right in the car to drive down to New York.
I live in New Hampshire.
So I'm about four and a half hours North of New York city.
And the timing worked out great.
The drive was insane.
Easy, breezy, and speedy.
I think at one point my mom texted me because she has my location and was like you're making really good time.
As in like, Allison, slow down.
But it was great.
The drive was a breeze.
Got to the hotel.
Checked in.
Room was ready.
Everything was, you know, smooth sailing on the way down.
We love that.
It's always interesting for me.
Something I look forward to is who is the first person that I know that I'm going to see once I get to the hotel.
And yeah, usually it's Meb Kafleski.
This time, the first face that I recognized was when I was in the check-in line.
I saw the face of Amy Commander.
Amy is an absolutely brilliant breast oncologist.
And when I first felt the lump back in April of 2023, Amy was the first person I told.
She is a longtime listener and follower over on Instagram.
And we've messaged back and forth for years.
And somehow I just thought of her and I was like you know, I'm going to have to wait to have an actual, like in-person doctor to feel this and talk to you about it.
And so I sent her a message from my Eugene hotel room being like, hi, Dr. Amy Commander.
You've been really nice and supportive over the years.
I just felt a lump and I, you talked me through it.
And she's been an incredible resource as I've gone through all of this.
And I recognized her immediately and I yelled out her name from the check-in line and we got to meet in real life for the first time.
And that was really exciting.
So yeah, so she was the first person I saw.
And then once I was headed to the elevators, I saw Josh Cox, who is an agent.
He works with a lot of your favorite runners.
And so those were the first people I saw once I was in New York City.
So dropped my stuff unpacked and then I knew that immediately I wanted to get to Central Park to go for a little run, wanted to see that finish line, wanted to just be in the place that always calms me and centers me.
I always try to go to Central Park as soon as I arrive in the city.
And so I did that beautiful run.
I think I ran five miles or like five and a half miles.
I didn't do any longer runs while I was in town, mostly just didn't have time.
I would have loved to have run forever.
But yeah, I saw lots of people I knew, which was really fun.
I saw my favorite sign, the welcome to Central Park sign, and while I was out for the run I watched Sam Ryan from ABC, who she's been on the show and she's become a really good friend.
She did a really beautiful interview with me, or put together a beautiful package.
We did the interview in Chicago and it aired this week and so she had let me know it was going to be airing and so I stopped my run and watched it on my phone and then called my mom to make sure she was okay and she was crying because my parents watched it as well and Sam just did a really nice job.
It's always hard when you let someone else share your story you worry about.
You know not that I have to worry with Sam, but I always just want to make sure that I'm saying the right thing and coming across as I'm hoping to.
And, you know, you put that in someone else's hands, and they did such a nice job.
They weaved some Taylor Swift songs into the mix in the background, and it was just really nice.
I ran into my friend Jen Scramenti and her fiancé, Paul, which was exciting.
I hadn't seen them since they got engaged, so I got to give them some big hugs.
Back at the hotel, I saw the Believe in the Run crew.
I saw...
Kim Conley, my friend Connor, Danny Orr, who worked at New Balance and is no longer at New Balance.
And I'm very sad about that.
So it was great.
I was already seeing people.
I saw Christine Burke when I was running in the park, ran into her and we went on to then get to ride in the car to the finish line together, which I will obviously talk about.
So then.
My big Friday plans were dinner with Connor and Caroline Moss.
If you listen to the episode, you know Caroline and I were finally getting to meet in real life.
And this might have been one of my favorite dinners of all time for every possible reason.
So last year after the Carnegie Hall show I said to Connor I was like we need to go out and celebrate.
Like today felt really big and exciting.
And so we like balled out and went to Nobu as our celebratory dinner.
And so I wanted to do that again this year.
But because of my rehearsal schedule for the broadcast, I knew I wouldn't have time to go out to dinner on Saturday.
So we were like, well, we'll do it before the show.
We'll go out to dinner Friday.
And so then Connor and I were planning to do that.
And then we invited Caroline to join us.
And isn't it such a beautiful thing when two people that you love love each other?
Caroline and Connor had the best banter.
They're both so funny.
I just sat at that dinner and laughed nonstop for like two hours.
The food is obviously, I mean, it's some of the best food I've ever had.
It is a very nice once a year splurge treat dinner.
And it was, yeah, it was one of my favorite dinners ever.
It was so fun, so funny.
The food was so good.
The black miso cod, the crispy rock shrimp, The crispy rice, we got it with tuna.
We just kept ordering more food.
It was so good.
So if you're ever looking to ball out on a very expensive dinner, Nobu 57, totally worth it.
We had an awesome time.
And then after that I rallied and got on the subway with Caroline and I went downtown to New Balance was having a party at their pop-up space downtown.
And even though I was already pretty tired, I did want to go.
I wanted to see it.
There were people there I wanted to see.
And some people were dressed up.
It was a Halloween party.
Uh, best dressed definitely goes to Aisha Pratt Lear and Emma Coburn, who were dressed up as Sharon Dion from clueless, and their outfits were perfect and they were perfect.
And man, this party new balance throws some wild parties.
Um, I stayed out much too late.
It was so fun.
Vernon Norwood was there.
Rye Benjamin was there.
The Sidious Crew was there.
Who else that you would know?
I don't know.
It was packed in there.
And I was like, as I was leaving dinner, I was like, oh, it's kind of late to be going out.
I feel like everyone's going to be going home.
And everyone was like, no one's going home.
Like, we're out.
And so I don't know who was at that party.
I know that it was...
I think mostly just people and clubs that New Balance partners with.
Like they do a lot of stuff with different run clubs in the city and beyond.
Maybe some of their partners at local retail chains.
I don't really know.
I knew who of my friends was there.
But yeah, people have asked before, like you talk about these parties.
How do you get invited?
I don't know.
I get invited because I work with New Balance.
And so they invite me.
So I think work with New Balance and come to the parties.
And I went to bed too late.
So...
All in all, solid first day.
It also helped to be out at that dinner and out at that party on Halloween night.
I'm not a huge Halloween person, but any day I'm not with Annie is hard, and any holiday that I'm not with her is definitely hard.
This was my first time ever not trick-or-treating with her, and I was feeling sad about that.
So it helped to be out, to be busy, to be having a good time.
And yeah, Aisha and Emma...
I simply could not keep up.
Oh, Eric Jenkins was there.
I mean, I said the city is screwed, but yeah, Eric Mack and Chris were there.
Chris left early because he was on the dash to the finish broadcast the next morning.
And as he left, I was like, I should do the same.
I should go home and go to bed, but I did not.
So that brings us to Saturday.
Okay.
When I was out for my run on Friday in Central Park and I bumped into Christine Burke, I asked her.
Christine and I always run together during marathon weekend.
And so we were trying to figure out if that could happen.
And she was like, I can run tomorrow, but it has to be really early.
And I was like, no problem.
I'm down.
Let's get it on the books.
And so our plan was to meet at 530 in the hotel lobby on Saturday to go for a run.
Well, I texted Christine at like 1 am on well, I guess technically Saturday and And was like not going to make it.
I was supposed to run with her and Jenny Simpson.
And man, does it feel crummy to bail on those two women.
But I was just like, I can't.
I need to get some rest.
I cannot get up that early.
And so I think it might have been the first time I've ever bailed on a run.
I'm not usually that girl.
But I was like, I need the extra sleep.
And so I slept in just a tiny bit later.
I got up at 6 on Saturday because I did want to go for a run later. before my busy day.
The big activities for Saturday were the live show with Sidney McLaughlin-Lavrone, and then I had broadcast rehearsals all afternoon.
So let's talk about that morning run.
So I got up and it was actually really fun because I got to the lobby and everyone was getting ready to head out for the dash to the finish, the 5k, which I had hoped to run this year because I love that race, but the timing just wasn't going to work out with the live show.
So I figured I would go for my run.
I wanted to be back to the hotel, which is right on the 5k course, so that I could cheer and then go get ready.
So I'm heading out and I'm seeing all the the dash runners getting ready or the pros.
I saw Parker Valby right away, got to give her a hug.
I saw Courtney Frerichs, Ellie Puryear St.
Pierre who's back which is fun and then Wish them all luck and then headed out for my run.
And I'm headed toward the park and I see such a familiar stride coming my way.
And it is Jenny Simpson.
And I was like, I'm so sorry for bailing.
She said, it's fine.
They had a nice run.
And then she did end up doubling back and she ran with me for a bit.
So it was nice to catch up with Jenny and just hear about how things have been going for her.
They had the dogs in town with them, which was cute.
So, yeah, it was beautiful.
I mean, it was a beautiful, perfect morning in Central Park.
I was so happy.
Just always happy.
It always just feels really good to get up and get to Central Park early, because the park gets so crowded on marathon weekend.
And so it was dark when I started my run.
And by the time I finished, it was light.
It was crowded.
And again, I think I ran maybe five miles again.
I don't even remember.
So, yeah, saw the finish line, saw my favorite tennis court bathrooms.
I saw Molly Seidel running.
And, you know, she had just said on the show, she was like, you know, yell hi.
And we can chat, but like, maybe don't ask for a selfie during a race weekend.
And she was chill about it.
But so I yell and I know Molly, like Molly is someone that at this point I would consider a friend, and I yell at him like Hey, Molly.
And she just goes, Hey, and keeps running.
And like six people saw me do that.
And I was like, yeah, I was like, Oh, I feel like a turd.
Like this person that I think is my friend didn't even really acknowledge me, but it's fine.
We'll get to more of that.
Um, I saw my friend Beth, Beth, who I used to I mean, we met through blogging way back in the day.
And so it was fun to see her in person.
And it just felt happy.
Everyone out in the park, just people are running and they're just smiling.
Everyone's excited to be there.
Mind you, I felt like absolute trash from the night before, just already running myself into the ground early in the weekend.
No one to blame but myself.
Actually, that's not true.
I blame myself, but I also do blame Emma and Aisha. for being like, no, stay, for like hours.
So we are all to blame.
As I'm leaving the park, walking in, I see Emma Coburn Kamara, who works for New Balance and works with all of their pro athletes, and Tom Carleo, who is like everyone's boss's boss's boss.
Tom is very important at New Balance.
He is... one of the absolute greatest people you'll ever meet.
He is so fun.
He's so smart.
And so I'm just looking like trash leaving the park and they're walking in and we had a good laugh about you know, just the night before and being silly.
And I got back to the hotel.
I saw Sharon Locchetti in the lobby.
She was heading out for her day before ShakeOut Run and we chatted for a little bit and she is just oh, you can't not root for Sharon.
Sharon is so sweet and bubbly and fun, and I just want all the best things for her.
And you know you can always tell the like when lots of other runners are always rooting for that person.
You know they're a good person.
And, like, everyone loves Sharon, so...
Just know Sharon.
Sharon's a real one.
Took a quick shower and then headed downstairs to go cheer for the dash before having to get ready for the live show.
Saw some friends, which was great.
Saw two different Megs that I know and then met Connor.
We were going to cheer together.
So I cheered with Connor and then Molly comes out.
Molly Seidel comes out and I'm like, hey, I said hi to you in the park.
And she was like, oh, my God, that was you.
She's like, I don't. wasn't even paying attention.
I was like, yeah, I felt like a real turd waving and getting no response.
And then she asked me for a picture and I was like, now we're even.
Um.
So yeah, it's just.
It was also so fun cheering for the dash with Molly and Connor because again, just two funny people together with good banter um.
So yeah, we had a really good time.
The races the pro fields were super small because this year the dash was not a US championship in the past.
It historically is the U.S.
5K championship.
So they get a pretty big pro field this year.
The fields were smaller, but I was happy to see.
I mean, man, that close from Annie Rodenfels was insane.
We were watching in person, but Connor had the broadcast on his phone, so that we were watching there too.
Super happy for Ellie St.
Pierre, who seems to be returning quite well.
Parker, it was only her second pro race and her first pro race on the roads.
So I was glad to see her have a good day.
She finished fourth.
And Wainey Kalati in second, who, again, everyone loves Wainey and roots for Wainey.
From there, I went back up to my room to do show prep.
Connor ordered me breakfast, because he always does, because he knows I'm not so good at feeding myself on these weekends.
So he ordered breakfast.
My favorite, Sarah Beth's, the quinoa smoked salmon bowl with poached eggs on top.
And then Glam Squad.
I decided to since, as you know, been struggling a bit with my appearance and how I feel in my own body and with my own reflection in the mirror.
And so I decided to do what I could to feel my best this weekend.
And that included having Glam Squad come and do my makeup for the live show.
I am not good at makeup.
I... don't like doing it i don't wear much of it i most days i well most days i wear nothing and if i'm going out i'll just put mascara on like i i'm not a makeup girly and so i decided to have a professional come in and help me out so glam squad came to my hotel room and got me ready and shout out to connor who does so much to take care of me but he while i was getting ready he went out and bought um I wanted to have Sydney juggle little tiny taxis.
I just had this vision.
And he went out and got the tiny taxis from a gift shop for me.
He printed my notes for the show.
He brought me scissors so that I could just all these little things that I needed.
He just gets them done.
And then my best friend Michael came as well.
And she was there while I was getting ready.
And it was just so, so, so nice.
You know, the times Michael and I get to hang out are like because I have chemo or because I need someone to tattoo eyebrows on for me.
And so it was just really nice to get some good quality Michael time.
She lives in Connecticut.
So she took the train in for the show.
And then we headed out for the live show.
I was feeling pretty good about it.
I did.
I decided to wear the wig for the show and Michael put a little braid in it, because I'm still trying to figure out like the positioning and how it's comfortable and it kind of falls in my face a bit and you can't really tuck it behind your ears.
And so anyway, she, she just helped me, uh, helped me with the wig cause she's good at everything.
We saw Ellie St.
Pierre while we were waiting forever for the elevator.
The elevators at the hotel were very bad on this trip.
People were not happy.
Um, So it was nice to hear, to chat with Ellie a bit about her race.
She seemed really, really happy.
And then Michael and I took a car to the venue, to the appell room at jazz at Lincoln center.
And the team from both new balance and mirror, who is the agency that you know brings all these events to life.
And we always work with them.
They're amazing.
They greeted us outside and I could see we went in through like the stage door entrance on the side, but I could already see this big line forming in the the shops at Columbus Circle to get into the venue and it's just, it's so cool like I get as always, I've had no time to process any of this and just like sit with it and think about it and replay these magic moments.
Which is part of why I do this episode is to relive it all.
But yeah, there are so many events on these marathon weekends and it's never it's just always really special that people choose to come to the things that I'm doing and want to be there, and we have a really great community.
So it was cool to see a line already forming and so then they bring me in and you know again, we're at jazz at Lincoln Center and everything is just so elegant and beautiful.
I mean, if you were there in person or if you saw pictures like that room was incredible, and so I
They brought me in and they show me to my dressing room and then they show me to my friends dressing room.
They got because our little backstage parties have become quite a thing now, which is really fun.
They got my friends their own dressing room.
They were like, well, we thought you might want your own space.
And as soon before I even walked into the dressing room, I made a joke and I was like this is amazing.
I was like you know, the only thing that could top it is.
I was like last year when we were at Carnegie, there was a piano in my dressing room.
And then I walk into my dressing room and there's a piano in the dressing room.
Like, not for me.
That's obviously always there, but it's so cool doing shows at venues like this where they have pianos, because they have musicians there who might want to play before they go out.
So anyway, that was so cool.
My friends were loving that they had their own dressing room.
One thing that I really wanted to do is I wanted to go down and say hi to everyone that was in line, because these shows are They've gotten really big, which is incredible.
And it's not like when, a couple years ago the live shows, we had like 50 people in the audience, which allowed me to chat with all of you after and hang out and share stories and hug and take pictures.
We can't do that now because we'll all be there for a really long time.
And...
And that's okay.
But unfortunately, I did have meetings to get to and rehearsals right away.
So I was like, anything I can do to be with everyone.
I just want to all be together.
And so I asked if I could go down and just say hi to everyone who was in line.
And they were like, yep, let's do it.
So I went down, said hi to everyone in line.
Thanks to everyone who was there so early.
I love you.
And then...
We what did we do?
Came back up.
Oh, and then they brought me to meet Sydney.
Well, I've met Sydney before because I did an event with her a couple of weeks ago at New Balance headquarters in Boston.
I moderated a panel about the Tag Heuer New Balance collaboration that they were doing.
And Sydney is the face of that.
And so we did meet.
It was a much more like buttoned up situation, whereas this time you know Sydney she was in her own dressing room.
She had a big gorgeous dressing room.
And she was there with her husband, Andre, and her agent, Rob.
And so they brought me in to get to chat with her for a little bit, which was really nice.
It was good to have that time before we went out there just to chat with her.
There were a few things that I wanted to run by her before we started the show.
I wanted like she always, you know, not always, but she often gets asked to juggle.
So I was like, hey, are you sick of being asked to juggle or are you into it?
And she was like, I'm definitely into it.
I did a quick rundown of what I was planning to talk about.
Also let her know that if it goes in a totally different direction, I'm cool with that.
So it was really nice.
I think it kind of put both of us at ease.
Like we're here to have a good time.
Let's have a good time.
And just the vibes were good.
She seemed really excited to be there, which was cool.
Then they brought us out to do soundcheck and we got to walk through.
I wish I'd gotten to spend more time in the venue, because there was this atrium which, once you came up, the elevators checked in, got your sweatshirt, which that was a surprise to me that they brought in 500 Team Ali sweatshirts and everyone got one as they entered.
Which amazing.
I didn't know about that.
And then. everyone filtered into this big, gorgeous atrium that was really branded.
And so Sydney and I got to go in there really briefly.
We took a couple pictures and then they brought us onto the stage for soundcheck before they opened the doors.
So soundcheck was cool.
There were so many photographers and videographers there.
There was my team, there was Sydney's team, there was New Balance's team.
And it just felt really exciting, like the again.
The energy was good, my friends were arriving, i had so many friends backstage and one of the big exciting moments was um.
So my she's now my friend.
Her name is jamie and she is dr rosenkrantz, my surgeon.
She's her best friend, so at some point dr rosenkrantz connected jamie and me because jamie is also a breast cancer survivor.
We had breast cancer at the same time in 2023, and jamie is a runner.
So Jamie has been training for and is running the New York City Marathon as her return to running and marathoning after having cancer.
And so like a week ago, I texted Rosencrantz and I was like, hey, come to New York.
And she was like, hey, I'm planning on it.
I'm surprising Jamie for the marathon.
And I was like, that's awesome.
I was like, can you come a day early?
I was like, I would love for you to come to the live show.
And she was like, yeah, awesome.
Like, let me see what I can do.
And so I
Then the plan became that Dr. Rosencrantz was going to surprise Jamie at the show.
She was always going to surprise her for the marathon.
So anyway, really cool that I was in my dressing room after soundcheck and Jamie and Dr Rosencrantz walk in together.
They saw each other at the stage door.
And that's when.
Dr. Rosenkranz got to surprise her.
So, um, which is so special to have both of them there.
You know, I just absolutely worship Dr Rosenkranz, who I do believe was the only person there in high heels.
She was like, what's the dress code for the show?
And I was like, very casual.
This is a running weekend, running event, like sneakers, sweatpants are good.
No, of course she was wearing like these incredible high-waisted wide leg jeans, a leather jacket and heels, like coolest person in any room.
So that was really fun and special.
Um, I mean, I probably don't need to list everyone who was there.
I got a little... We got a little carried away with our backstage list.
Hence why they got their own dressing room.
But yeah, I felt surrounded by love.
Two of my best friends from home, from here, that we met through Annie, being friends with their daughters.
And now we've gotten super close.
Seema and Steph, they drove down at 5 a.m. to come to the show.
They came down from New Hampshire.
And so having them there was really special.
I think because friends like that, who they know what I do for a living, but I don't do it in our town.
And so it was really cool that they got to see what I talk about all the time and see what I do.
So super special having them there.
And then I finally was like, all right, you guys all go out.
I needed like a couple minutes of just quiet before we got started.
So got dressed, had a, spent some time with Sydney and her crew and it was just yeah, it was good energy.
It was a lot of laughing.
Um, you know, Sydney is shy.
She keep in mind also she's 24.
Like Sydney is still so young and performing on these massive stages.
Expectations of her are so high.
I really appreciate what she said in the show.
Being like you know, people always say I don't show emotion after a race.
Like you go do that and then try to show emotion.
Um, she by nature is a shy and more reserved person.
And so my goal for this show was you know, my goal is always to have fun, but it was also to a crowd of mostly marathoners and distance runners, like let's get to know Sydney.
And I felt really confident that after that show, which you know, I think, I listened back to it and I think in audio form it's great.
But I think if you were actually there in person, um so much of what she did was reactive and like she made, her faces were funny.
She juggled.
She, um.
Yeah, I wish everyone could have been there in person, because I do think it felt different in real life than as is translated to audio only.
I still think the audio is great.
Uh, but yeah it was.
It did feel like Sydney.
I don't want to say she came out of her shell and I.
I also didn't want her to.
I didn't want to force her to be something she's not like.
I didn't want to be over the top silly with her if that's not what feels good for her.
I'm not going to force her to be a big personality if she's more reserved.
And so I did want to play off her energy, what she felt comfortable with.
Kristen McKenzie, as always, gave the most generous, beautiful introduction.
So Sydney and I were standing backstage.
Kristen went out to do the intro and they have monitors backstage so we could hear and we're watching it on the monitor.
And Kristen is just so kind and generous.
She's become a very good friend of mine.
And yeah, She just said a lot of nice things.
And then I walked out.
She introduced me.
And they played Opalite from the new Taylor Swift album.
Which, again, if you listened in audio form, for some reason, it just plays the song.
And you don't hear the crowd.
And I swear the crowd did applaud.
You just don't hear it in the audio version.
But yes, I was treated again to not just a standing ovation but a room of people wearing Team Ali sweatshirts.
And that was one of my high points of the weekend was walking out there and seeing all of you and seeing so many beyond just my friends who were there.
So many faces in the audience right in the front row.
Katie Stilo and Yosef Herzog, colleagues at the Today Show.
They were right up front.
Up in the rafters was Christine and Reed Fisher.
Reed was running the next day and came to the show.
And Christine, it was great to see her and hug her.
I had a ton of my when I used to do November Project when I lived in New York City a ton of November Project people came.
And then it was just beyond my friends.
There were some crazy VIP people that I didn't even know were going to be there Tom Carleo was there with Parker Valby Vernon Norwood was there Emma Coburn came I didn't know Emma was coming and it was like I asked Tom we had dinner later in the week and I was like do they have to go I was like be honest I was like is that an appearance for them to come to the show and he was like no they wanted to come which again like Vernon Norwood everyone's favorite Vernon Norwood wanted to come to the live show so cool So a lot of friends I hadn't seen in years.
And then, yeah, I felt really good about the show.
I thought it went well.
I am always pretty hard on myself after live shows.
I'll look back and say, oh, I tripped over a word here or I should have done this differently.
I mean, I'm always looking to grow and learn and be better.
I mostly felt really good about this one.
So did Sydney, which was awesome.
Sydney and Andre and Rob, each of them afterward were like, This was great.
Sydney loved it.
So that was really nice and reassuring because we didn't have a rapport before then.
So anyway, it was just really nice to know that everyone left feeling really happy about the live show and just really hopped up on that venue.
I mean, if you were there or if you saw pictures again, you know it was gorgeous, overlooking Central Park and the final turn into the park on the marathon course.
Yeah, it was very, very new yorky.
And uh, dr rosenkrantz got to meet dr amy commander, because amy was at the show, and so it was fun to introduce them.
They've talked before because they talked about my case and they just have a ton of respect for each other in the field, so i liked getting to introduce them.
Uh people, as we were leaving and again, i hate that i can't stay after and chat with everyone, but people were like handing me presents um, Thank you.
You're all so nice.
It used to be friendship bracelets now.
And I don't have it in front of me, but I have the name written down.
When Cousin Jackie was on one of the episodes, we talked about always getting ads for negative underwear and wanting to get them, but they're so expensive.
And someone gave me negative underwear pajamas.
Like, you all listen, and you're so nice, and you're so generous.
And I will always sit here and be like, I'm just hosting a podcast.
Like... who deserves this outpouring of love?
And again I don't take the time to sit with it and make sense of it, but just I'm so tremendously grateful and blown away.
And the show was definitely one of my favorite things that I've ever done, even with my nitpicky things that I could have done differently or done better.
Overall, it was a really, really special, really special show.
So thank you all so much for coming.
I loved it.
I will never forget that day.
So once I said bye to everyone in the theater and then backstage, I had to go right to rehearsal.
I had broadcast rehearsal in the park and so I packed up all my stuff.
I had some time backstage with Steph and Seema, which was really nice.
I got to talk to some of the New Balance people and it was great hearing that they were all happy with how the show went, because that is always one of my goals is I always want them to be happy so we can do more of this.
And then I walked up to the finish line with my in town for the whole weekend, and they're both runners.
Well, Seema will yell at me and say that she's not anymore.
But back in the day Seema ran the Chicago Marathon and Steph has run a bunch and Steph is a big runner.
She's coming off of having knee surgery, and she's going to be back on the run soon.
So it was really fun to show them one of my favorite things, the New York City Marathon finish line.
So we walked up there together, and then I had rehearsal.
So rehearsal for me was pretty – pretty quick, pretty easy.
It's like soundcheck.
They were showing me because I was doing this thing in a car the next day for the broadcast.
They were showing me how to use the selfie stick and the iPhone and the earpiece and all that.
So we walked through that.
I tested my mic out at the finish and then I was done.
Rehearsal was, I guess it wasn't super quick.
I was there for over an hour, but yeah, it was, it's good.
And it's just nice to see some of the people that I work with on the broadcast and get to connect with them.
So they had a car for us to take us back to the hotel and I got to ride back to the hotel with Lewis Johnson.
I love working with Lewis Johnson.
He is the most professional, prepared person I've ever met in my life.
He is so gracious.
He asks everyone their name.
He thanks everyone.
He's just... He is... so great to work with.
I learn a ton.
And so in the car on the way back, I was just like grilling him, asking him questions.
I love learning from him.
I love hearing his stories.
I asked him about his favorite event that he works every year.
And he was like, nothing compares to the Olympics.
The Olympics is just there's nothing like it.
So the Olympics is his favorite event that he works.
I was asking him what it was like doing that interview after at trials this year at uh, at USA's.
I asked him about that moment when you remember the look from Noah and the shove from Kenny Beneric.
And then they were fighting on the broadcast.
The girls are fighting.
I asked him about that and what it was like.
And so we talked about that and um yeah, it's just, Lewis has such a wealth and depth of stories and you know there's no one he hasn't interviewed, and he was talking about his relationships in the sport and how important those are.
Uh, So yeah, I just I really enjoyed that car ride back with Lewis and getting to chat with him for a while.
After that, I just I needed to decompress a bit.
So Connor came by, and you know Connor is one of those friends that I love having around for every reason.
But because I can, it's very unfiltered.
I can say whatever's on my mind.
I can say nothing and we can just sit and have it be quiet, you know.
So yeah, Connor came by and I was starving at this point because I always am on these weekends.
And he was like, what do you want?
And I was like, oh God, I don't ever have an answer to that question.
And so he found a dinner place that had availability.
So we went to dinner at the Elgin.
He swears that we've been there together before.
I had no recollection of that.
But yeah, we ate a decent dinner and then we walked back to the hotel.
I was.
I was like in such a good mood and I was just being a total tourist, which I am every time I go to New York.
Now,
And I have no shame in that.
And Connor hated that I made him pose for pictures in front of Radio City.
But I don't care.
Connor, you're perfect.
Sorry for making you play tourist.
I got back and I was very tired, but I wanted to get the intro recorded.
So I recorded the intro for the live show so I could get that off to Tyler, my editor.
Hi, Tyler.
You're the best.
And then I eventually shut it down and went to bed because...
Sunday, race day.
Had to get some decent sleep.
But yeah, I mean, Saturday, clearly great day.
Run in the park cheering for the 5K, seeing a ton of my friends doing the live show, broadcast rehearsals dinner, low-key dinner with a friend.
And that brings us to Sunday.
Sunday, race day.
How was everyone else's day?
I Okay.
So my role for the broadcast is I was out at the start line to do one interview at the start.
If you remember, two years ago I interviewed Robin Roberts at the start, which was a high of my life.
So this year they brought back the ABC News Relay, which is where the ABC News anchors each run two to three miles of the race.
And they handed off to fellow anchors.
Cute.
So I was interviewing the lead off runners, Rebecca Jarvis and Will Reeve.
So I was doing that at the start.
Then they were putting me in a car, in one of the Volvos, with the women's lead pack heading to the finish.
And so when I went to the start two years ago, I got in one of the cars that drives really fast to get to the finish, to get you there as quick as possible.
So it doesn't totally follow the route.
This year I got to be in a car right ahead of the women's lead pack all the way to the finish, which I was very excited for, because what a cool way to see the course and take it all in.
So I didn't really know exactly what I was doing until I think the night before the race.
And so I was in this car that was, it was a branded promotion.
So it was MasterCard and Lyft were doing a collaboration, And I was in there with an influencer that they had chosen.
Her name is Mallory Kilmer, runs with Mal.
I'm sure plenty of you follow her and know exactly who she is.
So she was coming in the car with us.
And then I was going to be asking her two different questions.
These were just quick hits from the car.
I mean, all in all, it was a great experience.
I loved being in that car.
I think me and Mal and my friend Christine Burke was in the car with us.
We were just... It was incredible.
Such an amazing experience.
I'll get to that more.
So I was doing that on... So they came to us twice throughout the race.
And then at the finish line, my role was...
I was interviewing the top Americans from the day.
And then there were about six or seven other interviews that they wanted me to get with various people, including celebrities, members of Team Inspire, which is runners that New York Roadrunners handpicks because they have amazing stories.
Like Allie Truitt was one of the Team Inspire members.
And she's incredible.
Lost one of her legs in a shark attack, became a Paralympic swimmer and then ran the New York City Marathon.
And she's doing it for her organization, Stronger Than You Think.
So there were a bunch of those.
And there's three different broadcasts that we're a part of.
The first one is the ESPN feed.
That starts.
I think we went on air at 8 or 830, off air at maybe 1230.
Then they kick it over to WABC7 where they do live reporting from the finish.
And some of my interviews aired during that.
And then there's a third national show from 3 to 5 p.m. where I would be doing more interviews.
They also came down to Lewis and me.
And Lewis and I did a little... hit from the finish.
So my day was 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
So let's let's go back.
Let's that just gives you an overview of what I was doing.
So alarm went off at 4 a.m.
We got that extra hour of sleep.
I felt pretty good.
It is nice not having to do anything to get ready because I get hair and makeup.
So I it was a nice, easy ride out to Staten Island.
I was with the moto team.
So it was me, Bex Gentry, Clayton Young and Amanda McGrory.
And it was really fun.
Like, that's a great group.
Right.
And the ride out to Staten Island is incredible.
It's police escorts.
It's buses.
It's everyone on the road is going to the same place.
Everyone is going to Fort Wadsworth for the start of the New York City Marathon.
So the energy and it's dark out.
But the energy, you just feel it.
It's like this this collective nervous energy.
So they bring us to the hair and makeup trailer, which was a very fancy trailer like nothing I'd been in before.
I loved that the woman doing my hair, she wore a wig and she knew exactly what to do with it.
Like, I just felt so comfortable with her.
I thought she did a really nice job.
I am still not comfortable with the wig, but she put cute little braids in and And that was nice.
Got my makeup done.
Then I got to ride in a golf cart.
That's always one of my favorite parts.
I love riding on golf carts.
I think it's very enjoyable.
And so I got to take a golf cart over to the start line.
This is where I got to go on top of the double-decker bus at the start.
And you're overlooking the Verrazano Bridge.
I mean, you're on the Verrazano Bridge, but it's just this sweeping, beautiful bridge.
And The runners are there.
Everyone's arriving.
And so I interviewed just did a quick interview with Will and Rebecca.
I wanted to tell Rebecca Jarvis like, oh my God, I love the dropout because she's who hosted the dropout podcast about Elizabeth Holmes.
And but, you know, everything is so quick.
Will Reeve is tall and beautiful.
And so.
Got to do a quick interview with them.
They were both really, really nice.
And then Ted Metellus came up, the race director.
And so it was just nice to see Ted on race morning and wish him luck and tell him to have a great day.
And we took a couple pictures together.
And then then I heard the first New York, New York of the day, like you heard in the mega episode.
They play it 11 times.
And I think I heard it. four or five times before I had to leave and I don't that'll get you hearing the you know they do the national anthem the cannons fire they play New York New York and everyone just goes crazy it was a picture perfect day I mean weather was gorgeous a little chilly for spectators perfect for the runners that's exactly what you want I mean it might have gotten a little warm for the runners later in the day but people seemed pretty pretty good and chill about the weather Where I was waiting right near the car I would be getting into, I was right near the celebrity tent.
And so there was a lot of the celebrities coming and going.
I saw Carl Radke from Summer House.
I saw my friend Zach Clark and got to give him a pre-race hug.
A lot of love for Anthony Ramos.
He was definitely, I think, the most hyped celebrity of this year.
And just so many cameras around him and people wanting to take pictures with him.
And then this was this was a special moment for me.
And it will sound self-indulgent, but this whole episode is exactly that.
So just roll with it.
I was standing right where I was supposed to be, which was there's like a lineup of cars waiting in order from when they would head to the finish.
Right.
So after each wave, there's a convoy of cars that takes off transporting people to the finish.
So I'm standing near my car.
And just so I can be ready to go as soon as they want me.
No one's looking for Allie Feller.
They know where I am.
And it was right to like right on or next to the path where they walk out the elite athletes.
So I had seen the two wheelchair starts go off.
I saw the MasterCard priceless start runners, saw them do their thing and.
And then I see Sam Grotwald, one of the elite athlete coordinators.
I don't know his actual title, but he works with Dorian to recruit all the elite athletes.
I see Sam Grotwald walking my way.
And I then see all these women I recognize behind him.
And I'm like, oh, he's bringing the professional women out.
And so I'm just, again, I'm just standing out of the way doing my thing.
And then Sarah Vaughn sees me and comes over and gives me a big hug.
And then...
Amanda Vestry sees me and comes over and gives me a big hug.
And Sarah Hall gives me a big hug.
And it was so cool and so fun.
I was just like, oh, all these people that I love are going out to run.
And it was fun to see that.
A lot of Elliot Kipchoge hype, obviously.
I didn't see the pro men at all because the women start first.
And I was in a car with the women.
So once they lined up the women, they called for us to assemble and get in our cars.
And so we did. got into position and then began the drive, which was out in front of the lead women.
So I thought we would be right in front of the elite women.
Like I knew that the press truck would be directly in front of them and that the moto would also be right in front of them, which is what Bex was on.
Like they need to have the best view.
I did think we would be closer to them.
We were, If you saw us coming through, we were probably 800 meters ahead of the pack.
So we actually couldn't see much of the race.
Christine had the broadcast going or the live feed going on her phone so we could see what was happening.
But it was so much fun being in this car.
I going over the Verrazano Bridge and just seeing these sweeping views of New York City humming down the bridge and immediately being greeted by crowds.
We saw someone holding a sign that said, Staten Island's not that bad.
We thought that sign was cute.
And it was just total sensory overload of you know.
We had all the windows down and we're just cheering.
And then going through Brooklyn was insane.
I know Manhattan gets the hype for Thunder Alley on First Ave.
I'm sorry, Brooklyn's better.
They're all great.
Everyone who came out and spectated, you're doing amazing.
Thank you for being there.
But Brooklyn is it.
Brooklyn, the streets are narrower, so the crowds just feel more like it's just Brooklyn is so good.
One of the very cool things was we saw a ton of Team Alley sweatshirts out in the wild.
That hadn't even crossed my mind.
We saw so many people spectating in their Team Alley sweatshirts, and that was amazing. amazing.
So many people were yelling my name.
Uh, for a while I was in the car just with the window down watching.
And then at places where the crowds were thick, me and Christine and Mal, we were sitting on the edge of the windows uh, just hanging out of the car, waving.
I felt so weird waving like as if it's a parade and I'm part of it.
Uh, But the crowd was cheering for us.
So we're waving.
We're clapping.
We're just having a good time.
I kept yelling, the women are coming.
The women are coming.
People were yelling my name.
It was insane.
People were obviously cheering for Mel.
People knew Christine.
We were just having such a good time.
And then it was time for us to do our first hit from the car, which I don't know if I should tell you this.
It wasn't live.
So I had – which was kind of nice because then if we wanted to do it more than once, we could.
But my script that I read started with me saying, thanks, Hannah, and then saying, I'm Allie here in the car, blah, blah, blah, et cetera.
So then I had an earpiece in the whole time so I could hear the broadcast the entire time.
And so I hear on the show, I hear John Anderson from the booth just saying very nice things about me, like hyping up Allie Feller.
And then he's like, now we've got Allie –
In the MasterCard – oh, God, now I already forget what it was called.
MasterCard Priceless Start Car.
Oh, I'm messing it up, but it's okay.
I'm not on air right now.
I'm on my channel.
They're not going to hear this.
So John is who ended up throwing it to me, and then I go, thanks, Hannah, blah, blah, blah.
So I immediately get a text from John Anderson being like – or he might have told me later.
I forget.
He was like, oh, I said all those nice things about you, and you immediately say, thanks, Hannah.
I was like, that was what the script said.
So I'm learning every year that sometimes it's best to just keep it generic and say, thanks, thanks.
Don't put a name on it because things change on the broadcast all the time.
But I was like, oh, I felt bad about that.
Again, I did what I was told, but it still felt like my mistake.
So John, I'm so sorry.
I appreciate you and all the nice things you said.
So yeah, going through Brooklyn was awesome.
Queens was great.
Going up and over the Queensborough.
I actually got really sad because I was like I don't want this to end.
Like, I think we all felt that way.
If we were like, this is so fun.
Let's go back a couple of miles and start again.
The turn onto first Ave was really cool.
We actually waited for a while at the bottom.
We went, there were times that our driver who was awesome, that he would like go kind of fast.
And I'm not sure why.
Um, and then we would get way ahead of the pack.
And then at the bottom of the bridge, we waited for them to catch up to us.
So it was really fun being closer to them going up first Ave.
Um, So we went up first half, dipped into the Bronx.
The Bronx was great.
We were boogieing down.
And then Harlem is always amazing.
Harlem was fun.
I should try to remember everyone that I saw along the way.
I remember seeing Allison Desir with Harlem Run.
I saw a lot of friends along the way, which was just really cool.
I saw my friends Greg and Kylie.
I can't start this game because I'm going to forget so many people.
But I did.
Yeah.
I saw Abby.
I saw another Abby with Beth.
Just awesome friends everywhere out cheering.
And then um, we went on to fifth ave which yep, feels like a hill even in the car.
Uh the, the turn.
Okay, so this was one of my favorite parts of the whole day was the final turn on fifth ave into Engineer's Gate at 90th and 5th.
So I knew that I would love this part.
That's where the Welcome to Central Park sign is.
It's one of my favorite spots.
And as we're pulling in, we were like hanging out the windows.
But then Christine, you know, kind of goes in the car and all of a sudden and then she comes back out and I just hear Taylor Swift opalite blasting from our car.
And Christine just gives me a big smile.
And I was like, oh, hell yeah.
We're like Taylor Swifting our way into the finish.
This is going to be awesome.
So we had music blasting.
The crowd was loving it.
They were giving so much energy.
The New Balance Cheer Station was right there.
And then we turn into the park.
And as soon as you turn into the park, it's actually quiet.
And I looked at Christine and I was like oh, it's actually, it's going to be quiet the rest of the way.
And she goes, it is not going to be quiet at all until the finish.
And so we go like 200 more meters and then all of a sudden, the park is just filled with spectators, which I didn't remember.
I thought the park was quiet, but no, no, no, it was not quiet.
So we had, we listened to Opalite, we listened to Love Story and we listened to.
I think did we end it with we had one last song.
I forget if we did Life of a Showgirl.
I forget, but we definitely did love story and opalite and we were just singing and dancing and we turned onto central park south.
I saw my friend Carrie, which was really cool.
And then we make that final turn in.
And, unlike at other races where the lead vehicles have to pull off early, we got to go all the way to the finish, because it turns out at tavern, on the green right, where the finishes.
So, um, I was feeling all kinds of things.
I was having so much fun and I was loving it and I was sad that it was ending.
This was a high point of my entire life.
Getting to ride in that car from start to finish was such an incredible experience.
I also haven't been on that course since 2016, which was the last time that I ran it.
So it was a really good refresher of like the magic of that course.
And yeah, a reminder of just how much you see on foot, how hard the bridges are.
Man, that Pulaski Bridge at halfway is no joke. joke.
People don't talk about that bridge enough.
It's hard.
So then we're pulling up in that final stretch to the finish.
I see Stefan Sima.
I see Mary Wittenberg.
People were just like yeah, it just the energy felt extra good and happy this year, which was especially nice because part of me heading into this weekend was feeling, and I felt this way in Chicago too.
I talked about it in the Chicago episode of like.
We're all descending on Chicago in that instance while ice is there and ripping people from their homes and from their loved ones and beating them.
And like, we're here like, yay marathon.
It's, it's disarming.
And so New York, it was the same.
It's like, Oh, I met no boo while people are having their snap benefits taken away.
Like it's, it's hard.
And I feel like lot of ways about this is part of me is like we can.
There's, there is room for both.
There is room to be really angry and to do everything you can to help people, whether it's donating food though i have a lot of places will say that if you're, if you want to make a donation to a food pantry or any type of food assistance venue or organization, monetary donations go much further, because then, instead of donating and look, donate whatever you can is helpful and wonderful.
But for most of them they'll say that monetary donations can go much further, because they and they can buy what they know is needed.
And it's, yeah, so I think that is a great way to show support.
Anyway yeah, going into New York it was like oh, the world continues to feel like it's just burning down or going up in flames and there's just so much bad news and it's all very real and scary and sad.
And it's the best weekend of the year.
And so it felt good to just really take in all the good for a couple of days.
And one of the happiest times I've ever had in my life was making that turn into Central Park with my friend Christine.
I'm not leaving Mal out.
Mal had hopped out on 107th and 5th.
She had friends there, so she jumped out there.
So she wasn't part of the final turn into the finish.
We had finished the broadcast portion.
We did our two hits by then.
So she hopped out to be with her crew.
And so then it was just me and Christine and our driver in the car.
And it was just also seeing Christine so happy.
Christine is so professional and Senior vice president of important things at New York Roadrunners or might know, she might be a C-suite person now.
Oh.
OK well, Christine's very important and very amazing and Christine is always very professional and gets things done and she is so warm and loving.
But this was Christine like letting loose and having fun.
Christine was the first one out those windows hanging out and waving and taking it all in.
And so I was following her lead, and it was also yeah, seeing someone you love have so much fun is a great feeling.
So just really special to have that together with her.
I loved it.
I just went on.
I feel like a whole bunch of tangents, but my point is that it felt good to have fun, felt good to just feel like I was on top of the world and to just take all of that love in.
And then we made it to the finish line and the only moderately stressful part of my day was we got to the finish and I was supposed to be interviewing the top Americans and we're pulling in with Helen O'Berry.
Like Helen O'Berry is not far behind and that meant that the top American also wasn't far behind.
The top American was Fiona O'Keefe, who ran an amazing race, ran a course record.
Really happy to see her back and healthy and racing well.
So I had to jump out of the car, get through all of the credentialed areas, like flashing my credentials, like I'm allowed to be here, to go get miked, get to the finish and grab Fiona.
Everything worked out perfectly.
Everything happened time-wise.
We were good.
Did my interview with Fiona.
And then from there and for the next, let's see, that was at what, 11-something?
Well, they started at I don't know what time it was 1035.
From then on, it was just microphone in hand for the rest of the day grabbing interviews.
I think something that would surprise people is just how crowded the finish line is, and i think i've said this before, but between the people in the grandstands, in the vip area and then just all the people on the ground staff volunteers, medical partners officials, people like me, broadcast people the finish line is packed, and so It's always for me, it's how do I do my job but also stay out of the way.
And so, like many of you, my tracker was not really working, though service at the finish is always hard because so many people are there and trying to use their phones.
So let's see, who did I see?
I saw a lot of people finish.
I'm going out of order here, but I'll just kind of go through some of the people I was tracking.
I saw Casey Neistat finish.
His wife was waiting for him at the finish line.
Casey ran a great race.
I saw Alona Marr.
She didn't run, but her sister Olivia did.
And Alona was in the VIP section.
And I wanted to be like, hey, I interviewed you last year.
And she'd be like, I don't remember that.
And I'd be like, we both went to Quinnipiac.
And she'd be like, I don't care.
Stop bothering me.
None of that happened.
That's just in my head how it would have happened.
What actually would have happened is I'm sure she would have been very kind and gracious.
But she's a fun spectator.
She was cheering for everyone.
People were so excited to see her at the finish.
So that was cool.
I missed a lot of my people.
I did see I saw Anthony Ramos finish and I interviewed him.
I only I saw Des very briefly after the interview and I just said, hey, Des, welcome to the masses.
I saw Jordan Litts. finish.
I got to interview Jordan.
He and he's coming on the Alley on the Run show, which I'm very excited about.
He is Fiero in Wicked on Broadway right now.
So he ran the marathon and then he had a two show day.
He had the 3 p.m. and the 8 p.m.
So that interview was really fun.
I saw the Megs, Meg Featherston, Meg Murray.
I saw Yosef finish, which was great.
I saw Deirdre Keene finish, which was great.
Lottie Bildarici, Sean Highland.
I saw Carl from Summer House.
He's also coming on the show.
So get excited.
Zach Clark, who I is, of course, a multiple-time past Allie on the Run show guest, all-around good guy.
I saw Zach finish and did an interview with him at the finish line.
Tommy Rives, Thomas Puzzi, always one of my favorite people to see at a finish line.
And we had a really nice moment where I gave him a big hug and we were excited to see each other.
And I wish I had written it down.
But I think what he said was we're both still here or we're not dead yet.
It was one of those, but it was a very, like, hell yeah, man, like, We've been through some stuff.
Him certainly more so than me.
But yeah, I just had a really nice moment with him.
Like many of you, I kept having people pop up in my tracker that I wasn't tracking.
Mark and Pascal Syrup.
Don't know who you are, but congrats.
You kept coming up in my tracker.
I saw Robbie and Thomas and Jarrett from Believe in the Run.
And yeah, I missed a lot of my people.
I saw them.
I did see the Utah Runner girlies.
I believe Lizzie and Nico were the ones in the pink outfits.
I saw them when we were driving and saw them at the finish.
Also in pink, Kim Track Club Babe.
I saw her as well.
Okay.
High from the finish line.
So, well, one was getting to interview Anthony Ramos.
It was really fun.
Lewis Johnson was supposed to do that interview, but Lewis he does the awards and all of that, and so sometimes he just gets tied up, in which case I just
I have an earpiece in the whole time where I can hear the broadcast and I hear my producer.
And so I would hear him say, uh, do we have Allie?
And I would say, yep, Allie here.
And I would get my cameraman and I would interview, I would say, uh, Anthony Ramos just finished.
Do you want me to grab him?
Yes.
Um, and there's people, it's not always me grabbing them.
It's there's people from New York road runners who do that.
Um, who will bring them over and say, hi, can we get an interview with you?
The Anthony Ramos interview, he was super emotional.
His mom was there.
It was really sweet.
So that was a fun one.
But all of a sudden.
So I'm standing at the finish line and all of a sudden the energy just felt different.
And I noticed that everyone is looking in a direction and they have their phones out.
And so I look behind me and I'm like, oh, that's Bill Clinton.
And I was at the finish last year when Hillary was there.
And that was awesome.
And that was when I met her and I met Chelsea in person after she had been on the Alley on the Run show.
And but I've never met Bill.
I still haven't met Bill.
I didn't talk to him at all.
But he was there and he was beaming.
He was just had like these wide eyes just waiting for Chelsea to finish.
And so then I see Hillary and I'm like, oh, you know, Hillary and I met last year.
I'm going to say hello.
She's not going to remember me, but like I will say hello.
And so I go to just politely tap her shoulder to say hi.
And I reach my arm up and bam, I am strong armed out of there.
Secret service, man.
They are on it.
Um, she didn't like hit me or hurt me, but she put her hand right up to block me from touching the former first lady and secretary of state.
And I was like, I was like, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.
I was like, I was just going to say hello.
I am so sorry.
Let me back up.
I was like mortified.
Um, So anyway, so then Chelsea finishes.
She runs right into Bill's arms.
She has a moment with Hillary.
If you look at the pictures, you see me.
I made sure I was out of the camera shot because I mean rule number one as a reporter person, like don't block the shot, obviously.
So I'm standing behind our videographer who's capturing this.
But of course, there's people on the other angle.
So anyway, there's a picture of Bill and Chelsea and I'm like right there with my iPhone up filming it like an idiot.
So anyway, then they started – Chelsea was talking to her friend and Secret Service starts to move Bill and Hillary out of the area, which I get.
It's very crowded.
Get them out of there.
And as they started to walk away, Hillary turned and looked right at me, or just looked in my direction.
And I was just like – I didn't touch her.
I said – hi, I was like, I'm Allie, Allie on the run.
We met last year.
Good to see you.
And she was like, oh, hi, so good to see you.
And then they're gone.
There was this younger woman who was with them, who left with them, but then all oh and then okay.
So there's this woman, she leaves with them.
Chelsea was kind of standing there with her friend, talking to people.
So I looked at Chelsea and she runs at me with her arms out, gives me a big hug and goes Allie on the run.
So she remembered me, which was really cool.
Um, sounded like her race went really well.
Her whole family was there, her kids were there, they're all cheering for her um, so just chatted with her for a minute and then she leaves.
So then this woman that I mentioned comes back.
She's in the VIP area, which is kind of up above where I am, and she's like Allie and I'm like I'm like I'm pretty sure that was the woman who was with Hillary and I'm like hi, and she said I'm with Hillary, I'm so sorry we had to whisk her away like that.
Please know, she absolutely remembers you.
And as we were walking to the finish this morning, she said I wonder if we'll see Allie on the run today.
And I just looked at her and I go, I don't believe that story at all, but I love it.
And I will tell my parents that you said that.
And she kind of laughed and was like, you know, if you need anything, we're here for you.
We're here to support you.
And I'm just like, does Hillary Clinton really remember me?
Because that's really cool.
So that was fun.
That was also one of my highs of the day.
How could it not be your high of the day?
Like, I don't care where you fall politically, like meeting someone of that stature is really cool.
So that was a high.
And then, yeah, it was a lot of getting interviews.
At one point, all of a sudden I was like, oh, I felt myself just feeling kind of claustrophobic.
Like there's just it is really stimulating being at the finish.
There's the music playing.
There's the amazing announcers doing their thing.
Also, thank you so much to everyone who reached out and was like Ali, thank you for announcing me at the finish line.
I'm very sorry to break it to you.
That wasn't me.
I'm not announcing at the New York finish line.
I'm doing the broadcast, but I'm not the person on the loudspeakers.
The person you probably heard was probably Carla Bruning.
Um, who's up there, Carla, Dave, Joey, and India are all announcing around that time.
And so shout out to them.
They do such an incredible job.
They have a long day.
They have the best energy, but it was not me that called out your name.
I'm really sorry.
So, uh, yeah, interviewed Allie Truitt, which was really cool.
She had an amazing group cheering for her at the finish.
She got a ton of love.
Anthony Ramos, um, I interviewed Fiona.
I interviewed Joel, who is the men's winner, Joel Rykow.
And it was funny.
I was so prepared for to interview so many people.
And I will tell you, Joel Rykow was not one of them.
And so I'm like trying to get on my phone to do some quick research to learn about this guy.
I thought it was either going to be BS Mbasa or Hillary Boer.
Maybe Joe Klecker would have loved if it was Reed Fisher.
So, yeah, it's. you're just kind of like thrown in.
And so anyway, all of a sudden I was like, oh, I'm hungry and I'm cranky.
I need to do something about this.
And then I was like, oh, Allison, you've not had a bite of food all day.
So no, I don't take very good care of myself on these days.
Barely eating, barely going to the bathroom.
My stomach was fine the whole day, which is always great.
But yeah, did a bunch of interviews and then we're there until it's dark.
We wrap our third show of the day at five o'clock, and then Lewis and I were given the all clear and yeah, we checked out, we left and then I got to ride in a car back to the hotel with Lewis again, and this time it was different.
This time I was just like I just need to be head down, be an introvert right now, not interact, and I think Lewis felt the same way if we were like okay, we're just gonna be very quiet in the car this time.
So yeah, that was my race day.
I feel like I'm skipping so much, but I didn't take good notes and I don't have a good memory.
But There were also.
There were so many people who finished their race and came over and said hi to me.
And so it's all it's really cool to get to be the tiniest little part of people's day.
And if I'm ever, if you're like oh Ali, like barely responded, please know that when I am at the finish, I am working and I have a producer in my ear talking to me.
And so even though it might look like I'm just standing there, I am like dialed in.
And so, yeah.
But yeah, I loved snapping selfies with a bunch of you and getting to congratulate you on your race and so many sparkles.
Marathons have become so sparkly, which I think is fun.
I'm all for show up however you feel best.
If that means a cotton t-shirt and basketball shorts, do it.
If that means matching outfits with your friends and sparkles and like a cute hairdo, do it.
Don't care what anyone else is doing.
If it's not affecting you, go do your thing and live your best life.
And yeah, and the finish line, I mean, the finish line has a lot of people down there.
Largest marathon in the world now, more than 59,000 runners.
So there's a lot going on.
But overall, from my vantage point, it felt like a really good, really happy and positive day.
And I loved getting to be on the ground for that.
So I eventually get back to the hotel, dropped my stuff, washed my face because I just felt like I needed to do that.
Actually, I think I took a shower.
Yeah, because I was cold.
So I was like, let me jump in a quick shower.
And then Aisha Prat-Leer texted me to ask if I was going to the New Balance party.
And I was like, hell yeah, let's do this.
And so her and her husband, Will, came and met me.
I had not eaten dinner.
They were kind of like, yeah, we could eat.
And so me and Will and Aisha, we caught up for a bit and then We met up with Tom Carleo from New Balance and the four of us went to a very nice dinner at a restaurant whose name I cannot remember off the top of my head, but it was Greek and it was very good and very nice.
And that dinner was also a highlight of my weekend.
We laughed the whole time.
Just.
I don't know.
I mean, if you think Aisha is good on off the rails, she's even better in person.
Will is hilarious.
Her husband and he works with Under Armour.
And so it was fun to get his perspective on Sharon Locchetti's day.
It was fun to hear where he was at during the day.
Aisha talked about how the Sidious watch along went.
And Tom is just hilarious and really appreciated the very kind woman and now, of course, names are escaping me, but she was, she's from nashville and she had run the marathon and placed in her age group and she was with her family and she came over because she's a fan of aisha's and so she came over to say hi, which was so so, so sweet.
And then um, i was like do you want me to take your picture?
And then she looks at me and she goes and like she recognized who I was.
So the three of us got to hang out, we took a picture all together and then she sent a bottle of champagne to our table, which I don't know if I've ever had anyone send me a drink before, and she sent us a bottle of champagne, which was so nice.
So yeah, we hung out, we enjoyed dinner, we got some really good food and then the four of us walked over to the New Balance after party, which was at Haswell Greens, which again, I don't think it's open to the public, I think it's like more internal.
It's all the New Balance staff and friends of the brand kind of thing.
Um, Believe in the Run crew was there, had a great time.
They have a live band, which is awesome.
It was yeah, it was fun, and I was very tired, so I was not mad to eventually leave once the band was done and get in bed.
Um Shout out to Danny Orr and Kevin Fitzpatrick and Andrew McCann.
Just so many people that I love and got to see and dance with and spend time with.
And then eventually made my way back to the hotel to call it a night, because Monday was also a big day.
And so I wanted to be well rested for it.
What actually happened is I was asleep by one.
My body woke me up at three, a mere two hours later, and I never fell back asleep.
I would lay there.
And then I'd be like, well, I'm not falling asleep, so I'll go on my phone.
I know that's the worst thing you can do, but whatever.
So then I would scroll for a while or do stuff, and then I'd be like, okay, good, I'm tired.
I would put my phone down and then wide awake.
So yeah, I cried a lot during that time.
I think I was just so tired and frustrated that I couldn't sleep.
And I always cry a lot the day after the New York City Marathon.
The comedown hits me immediately, and I always cry a lot.
So I got some of that out of the way.
Finally, at like 5 a.m., I was like, well –
I guess I'll edit and upload the Sydney episode.
So I did that.
And then I met up.
There was a group of women that were running together at 630.
And I had originally said, no, I think I need to sleep a bit later.
I'm going to go when I'm ready.
And then I was like, well, I'm up.
And so I met...
Dina Castor, who, oh, this was one of the things from the live show.
Dina was on my little backstage list, but she went and she waited in line.
And I know that so many people met Dina and were so excited that Dina was in line with you waiting to go into the show.
And Dina loves that.
And that made me happy.
Dina's the best.
So Dina, Mary Wittenberg, Karen Hempel, and Carrie Tollefson.
I call them the The blondes.
We all went for a run in the park, which was really nice.
While we were out, we saw my next door neighbor, Molly.
She had come down to the city with her daughter Hadley's, and they came to the live show and it was just so fun.
Like Molly is someone that I see all the time.
She lives next door to me and it was fun to see her out for her run.
Um, we ran, I think, like four and a half miles and I was yeah, I was struggling.
Uh, that lack of sleep and the busy weekend, just none of those things make for a solid run.
But it was really nice to get out with them and just go for a good jog.
And uh, they all knew that I had a big day and a big interview coming up and talk about the best hype crew.
They just I kind of walked through what I wanted to talk about in the interview and they hyped me up.
And then, as we were back at the hotel um, i got to see i i got all excited because i saw someone in a team alley sweatshirt from the live show and i was like ah, and then it was.
Um, her name is celeste and she has been a long time supporter of the show and she is one of those people who she will send me a message or she'll post in the facebook group and she is so insightful and she always says the right thing and it was just really nice to get to chat with her for a little bit.
So um went back up to my room, crawled in bed with my heating pack for a bit, showered and then I prepped for my interview with Katie Couric.
So that was exciting.
The timing was both wonderful that this worked out.
I really wanted to do it in person.
Katie is my longtime idol, which you'll hear about in the episode.
And so when I was able to connect with her team, I had said, hey, I'm going to be in the city.
We can record on Monday.
And they said, great, come to Katie's apartment and you can record in her library.
And so that is what I did.
I drove to the Upper East Side and Johnny JZ Snaps came because I knew I'd want photos from the day.
And I got to record with Katie Couric, the editor.
Episode.
The conversation was nothing like what I had planned for.
It went in a lot of different directions.
There were still so many things that I wanted to ask, but obviously had to be respectful of her time, which she was very generous with.
So hopefully we can have a part two at some point.
But I mean
Yeah, I got to interview Katie Couric.
I got to do a live show with Sydney.
I got to ride in a parade as part of the marathon.
And I got to interview Katie Couric.
Like life this weekend was pretty darn good.
The drive home was brutal.
Five hour drive home, mostly in the dark, running on two hours of sleep.
Not great.
And then right to chemo on Tuesday.
Some quick takeaways before I do anything.
QA one is that I never have time to process these weekends and I really wish I could build into my schedule, like a lot of people go on vacation right after.
I don't do that, but when I get home, I get Annie back on Wednesdays, which I want.
That is what I want, but I yeah, I jump right back into my routine and I never get to process all of this.
I worry a lot on these weekends about whether or not every interaction I'm having is meaningful.
I worry, you know like what?
There were times that people finished their race and came over to say hi.
And that's such a nice thing to do, but I'm I've got my producer talking to me in my ear and I'm getting ready to interview someone.
And I'm just like, Oh, congrats.
Like I want to give more than that, um, and do my job.
And so I'm always trying to figure out how I can be better about that.
Um, I am very sick of myself right now, especially as I'm sitting here talking to myself.
After these weekends, I feel like I'm so on the whole time that I need a break from myself for a little bit, and
You might also need a break from me.
I don't blame you.
It's a lot.
Figuring out my wig placement.
I feel like for when I was on the broadcast I had it pulled too low in the front, because that's where it feels like it's secure, like if you're wearing a hat right.
But I should push it back more so that it's where my natural hairline is.
So I'm figuring that out.
And then, to end on a very high note, the metals.
Oh my gosh, New York Roadrunners congratulations, bravo.
It is so rare to see a unanimous take on something, a unanimous positive take on something in the running world, and you cannot argue.
Those medals are stunning, gorgeous, and the ridges are the elevation profile.
I don't really care what a medal looks like.
That's not a motivator for me, but these medals, stunning.
So congratulations to the more than 59,000 of you that earned one, not an easy thing to do.
And yeah, getting to witness the best of humanity is my job is the best.
I love getting to be a part of it.
All right.
I will do some, got a lot of listener questions.
I'm going to try to fly through these because I got to go pick up Annie at school.
OK, got these submitted on Instagram.
Let's fly through them.
Holly Victoria Furman, who works for New York Roadrunners and always helps me with that massive episode.
I do
She said, what's your favorite place on race day and is it the Verrazano Bridge?
Yeah, it actually is the Verrazano Bridge on race day.
The finish line is so special and it's hard to compare anything to the finish line.
But not as many people get to go to the start line.
And the sweeping views of the Verrazano and the nervous energy of the runners.
I think, yeah, I think it actually might be the Verrazano Bridge.
Did you feel like you were living the life of a showgirl waving out of the car in the best parade?
I did.
I did.
Yeah, it was so much fun.
And the whole time I was thinking that this is very showgirl-y and very grateful for the opportunity.
What are your hot takes around marathon proposals?
Mine was the best.
Emily, I love that you got your dream proposal.
I, as Annie says, I will not yuck your yum.
My hot take.
It's not.
I don't think it's a hot take is well, first of all, it's not my proposal, so this doesn't matter.
I don't like when people propose mid-race.
When one person on the sidelines proposes to the runner and, And then they get engaged, but then the runner has to go finish the race.
Like, I want you to celebrate that moment together.
I used to feel much more strongly about this.
Now I'm like, actually, I don't really care.
Do whatever.
It's not me.
It's not for me.
As long as the happy couple is happy, I'm all for it.
So I guess I don't really have hot takes anymore because it doesn't affect me.
And I know a lot of people are like they hate it when one person proposes at the finish because it takes away from the moment.
Well, it might not, it might add to the moment.
So I have kind of changed my thinking there.
Gosh, I turned 40 and I'm just so nonjudgmental.
Love that for me.
Favorite sign.
Oh, I said to Mal at one point, I was like we need to be taking notes of like the good signs we see.
Cause there were so many good ones.
And now I can't remember any of them except the Staten Island's not so bad one.
Yeah.
I can't remember any signs.
I have, unfortunately it's a non-answer.
Um, Bummer.
Was Sid actually the nicest person ever, ever, ever?
Because I love her so much.
Yeah.
Like I said earlier, Sydney is shy and she is reserved.
And I think people want her to be like more.
And it's like, no, let her be her.
Yes.
She is so nice.
She is so kind and gracious.
She is so professional and polished.
Yeah.
I loved my day with Sydney.
I had a great time with her.
So yeah, I have only positive things to say.
Can we buy a team alley sweatshirt, please?
Um, I will see what I can do.
This was the most popular question.
Uh, what was the best moment in the car?
Definitely the turn into central park.
Those cheer stations on 90th and fifth were next level.
Um, Brooklyn was also great.
But I think in Brooklyn, I wasn't we weren't like hanging out of the car as much in Brooklyn.
I think I was nervous to do that just because I was like, this isn't about me.
This isn't my day.
But then it was like, whatever.
These people are happy.
I'm going to be happy with them.
I'm going to have a good time.
How did you sit in the car like that?
Was someone sitting in the middle seat holding your feet?
No, I felt perfectly safe because keep in mind, we're not driving that fast.
I mean, the runners are running fast, but the car is never going particularly fast.
In the times that we did pick up speed a bit, we weren't hanging out.
Our driver was awesome.
He did a great job, kept us very safe.
No, I thought hanging out the window like that would feel scary, but it never did.
I felt very secure.
My butt did a great job keeping me safe.
Favorite interviews from the start line well, start line, I only did the one interview with Rebecca Jarvis and Will Reeve.
Favorite interview from I'll take you to the finish.
I think it's going to be Anthony Ramos.
Allie Truitt too.
She was really, really I liked her a lot.
I liked her energy.
Would love to have her on the Allie on the run show.
So we'll try to get that.
Yeah, those might have been my favorite.
Oh, you know, what else I wanted to say about the finish is the New Balance crew was at that finish line and until just about as late as i was like they are just good people out there.
At one point i was like are you guys waiting for someone specific like tom carleo, very important person?
You're still at the finish and they were just like no, like this is what we're here to do.
We love this and so uh, just a testament to to that team that they really are all about this community and supporting it in so many ways.
How did you not spend the entire weekend in tears?
It all has me so emotional.
Yeah no, i get that.
Um, I think the only time I actually like got a little weepy was turning into Central Park a little bit when I walked out on stage at the live show.
But I actually kept it pretty buttoned up.
I feel like Chicago ripped the Band-Aid for me where like, I needed to get through Chicago to get to New York.
And then New York, I was able to, I think, be a little bit more stoic and pulled together.
So, yeah, no, I did OK.
What moment from your view do you wish your best running friends could have experienced?
Everything.
All of it.
Everything that I've mentioned, honestly.
That's why I do these episodes is to try to share what some of it is like for the people that won't get to experience the marathon from this vantage point.
I would also say the moment I walked out on stage and all of you welcomed me so warmly in your Team Alley sweatshirts.
Yeah.
I talk a lot about how supported I feel and how lucky I feel, and I want everyone to feel that amount of love at some point in their lives.
I feel so grateful to have that, and I want everyone to have that.
So yeah, I think that would be a big one.
What has changed since you first ran or spectated New York?
59,000 runners.
It is so big now.
The race itself is so big.
The fanfare is so big.
The Everything leading up to the race is so big.
The, the shakeouts, the live shows, the pop ups, the coffee shops, like there is so much going on which I think I at one point I was like it's too.
It feels like too much.
And then my perspective shifted to how wonderful to have so many options where it feels like there's something for everyone.
Like I again, I hope people don't feel lonely on these weekends.
I hope you find the thing that feels good for you, whether it's a live show or a massive shakeout run or whatever.
Something more intimate.
Like there are so many things to choose from now that yeah, it does feel like there's something for everyone.
How was your Crohn's?
Did you have access to bathrooms?
Yeah, I was nervous about the drive to the finish because we can't stop.
We're part like, what are we going to say?
Like, hey, women, pull over.
Allie needs to go to the bathroom.
I didn't think about it even once.
I was just happy and in the moment.
Could we please get Jordan Litz on a future Allie episode?
Yes, we can.
Who did Anthony Ramos hug at the finish line?
His mom.
It was cute.
If you look, I don't know how much you can see, but actually I don't even know when the interview aired.
He had a huge lipstick kiss mark on his cheek that was from his mom, which was cute.
Did you see any Peloton instructors?
I saw Ben and I saw Alex.
I don't know either of them, but I did see them finish.
Were you scared hanging out of the car while it was driving?
Nope.
Nope.
Felt great.
Loved it.
Would do it again.
What was the most stressful part of marathon weekend for you?
Getting out of the car, getting my earpiece, getting set up, and then doing an interview.
And it wasn't even that stressful.
It was fine.
What would you tell first time Allie about the New York City Marathon?
Oh, she knew.
I would tell her that it was going to change her life.
And I would tell her that this race is going to be a part of her life for a very long time in many very different ways.
And every single one is going to be magical and wonderful.
Most surprising or famous celeb seen on the course?
Chelsea Clinton.
Yeah, I didn't know she was running.
Were you concerned about your wig flying off when you were sticking out of the car?
One hundred percent.
I kept saying that to Christine.
I was like, I'm afraid my wig is going to fall off.
At times I was just holding it with my hand because I was nervous and it didn't, and it didn't come close to.
But yes, I was nervous about that.
Hope this is okay to ask.
Are you able to be in the moment for these experiences given all you're dealing with?
I am.
Yeah, it feels different than it used to, but it heightens these experiences.
It makes them better.
It's like, oh, I'm going through a lot of hard stuff.
As I'm recording this, I feel like absolute trash.
Chemo yesterday leveled me.
And it makes these moments – I'm just so – I know it sounds so flippant at this point, but it's genuine.
I am so much more grateful for these experiences and opportunities now.
Feelings about Giggly Squad coming for New York City in their latest episode.
Do you still listen to them?
I do.
I listen not as rabidly as I used to, but when I saw this question pop up, I –
I haven't listened to the episode yet, but I read the transcript of it.
And so I read the part where they came for the New York City Marathon and how it's an inconvenience and it's in their way blah blah, blah.
Yeah, no, I didn't like that.
I didn't like that at all.
Come on, girls.
Yeah, you're supposed to be girls, girls.
Cheer for the people.
You can handle being inconvenienced for a day.
It's not so bad.
Do you manage to eat throughout the day or are you too excited?
No, I barely ate throughout the day.
It was not great.
Could you see the lead pack from your car?
Not super well.
I mean, really, no, we couldn't see the lead pack.
I could see the flashing lights of the police vehicles in front of them, but we couldn't see the runners.
Would you ride in the lead car again?
I'm already dying to do it again.
I've already spoken with the team about doing it again.
Yes.
How many times did you see Meb?
I saw Meb a bunch of times.
Meb was at the finish.
I saw him there.
Meb, I saw him in the hotel lobby a bunch.
Yes, I always get to see my good friend Meb.
What moment did you repeat from past years that hit different this year?
It's the live show, I think.
Last year, we were at Carnegie Hall with Gabby Thomas, and I thought nothing could top that.
And I really, this year, was like, don't try to top it.
Like, let each experience be unique.
Let each thing be its own thing.
And then we were at that venue with Sydney.
And so...
I'm not going to say oh, we topped it, because that's not, I don't think that feels accurate or relevant, but it's like each moment, each show that we do is so different than the one before and does feel so special.
And so I don't know.
I don't know if that's a good answer.
Who was more nervous, you or Sydney?
I think probably Sydney.
And then I hope soon into the show, neither of us were nervous.
I need all the details on the Katie Couric interview, how it came to be, where it happened.
It happened at her apartment.
How it came to be was Christine Burke.
They have a mutual connection.
And so Christine reached out to her team a couple weeks ago.
And I've reached out a bunch of times.
And this was the one that stuck.
And we made it happen.
I don't know what Christine said in her pitch to them to get them to say yes.
Christine, did you pull the cancer card?
I'm fine with it.
So, yeah.
They made it happen.
Just curious, why did you sometimes wear the wig and sometimes not?
Yeah, the wig, it does.
It feels like my showgirl piece.
So to me it makes sense to put it on when I'm doing really public-facing things like the show and the broadcast.
But when I'm at parties or rehearsal, I don't want it on.
I do have enough hair on my head.
I've lost so much hair.
And you can tell from a lot of angles.
But if I wear my hair down parted and in a ponytail, it just looks like it's in a thin little ponytail.
So it's also not super comfortable to have on all the time.
I don't love wearing it.
So that's why.
What did you do in the car when you weren't on air?
I think we just kept saying, this is awesome.
This is awesome.
Over and over.
Me, Christine and Mal just kept saying, this is so awesome.
And yeah, seeing people we knew and getting excited.
It was...
It was great.
What changed about the bus system this year and why was it so bad?
And why were the security lines also so bad?
I don't know.
This is the first I'm hearing about that.
I'm not involved in any of that.
Um, I will try to find out about that before next year's mega episode so that we can address it and talk about how it won't happen again.
And finally, what was your favorite moment?
I think I pretty much covered this, but it was the, the walking out at the beginning of the live show and seeing all of you and uh, and being in the car for the race.
It was all amazing.
And now I am thoroughly sick of myself.
I'm sure there's stuff I skipped over and I forgot and I'll regret that.
But for now, I'm shutting it down.
Thank you always to the team at New York Roadrunners, to the crew at Film 45, to New Balance and to all of my friends and internet friends who made this weekend such a special one.
It was a really good New York City marathon.
