And we begin with Dallas defying the odds in the NBA draft lottery.
With just a 1 .8 % chance of landing the number one pick as they were not among the worst teams in the league, the Mavericks struck gold, winning the right to draft top prospect, Cooper Flagg.
This is the first time the Mavericks have won the lottery and is a turn of fortune for the team given how much flak the owners faced for trading Luka Doncic to the Lakers this year and failing to reach the playoffs.
Mavericks CEO Rick Welts called the moment surreal, and pundits joke they should trade the top pick to get Luka back.
According to USA Today a pick like Cooper could be pivotal as the Mavericks already have a strong roster.
The NBA draft takes place June 25th and 26th.
Summer sunsets are on hiatus in a town in northern Alaska.
After rising on Saturday, the sun will shine in Utkiagvik for 84 days, 11 hours, and 4 minutes straight, or until August 2.
Meteorologists and astronomers call it a Polar Day, the opposite of Polar Night, when this northern -most U .S. town goes 64 days without direct sunlight between November and January.
According to The Washington Post, the wild swings are due to the Earth's tilt on its access in relation to the Sun. But just because it's sunny doesn't mean it's warm.
Average temperatures in the town don't climb past the 40s in the summer because the Sun is at the same angle one would see in Washington, DC in late February.
Originality may be out when it comes to naming your child.
For the sixth straight year, Liam and Olivia were the most popular baby names for boys and girls in the U .S. according to the Social Security Administration's annual tracking system.
Kids who aren't Liam or Olivia are likely to be Noah or Emma, which, according to the Associated Press, secured the second spot also for the sixth straight year.
Rounding out the top 10 on the boys' side were Oliver, Theodore, James, Henry, Mateo, Elijah, Lucas, and William.
The other most common names for girls were Amelia, Charlotte, Mia, Sophia spelled with a PH, Isabella, Evelyn, Ava and Sophia spelled with an F.
Was it a sweet family outing or a dangerous dip?
U .S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F.
Kennedy Jr. is facing both praise and puzzlement for taking his grandchildren to swim in the waters of Rock Creek in Washington, D .C.
Kennedy posted pictures on his X -feed of himself almost completely submersed in the creek with his grandchildren waiting nearby.
The issue, according to The Washington Post, is that authorities describe the creek as unsafe for swimming due to sewage contamination.
The water might look clean and clear reads a warning that appears on the National Park Service website, but it's hiding a lot of bacteria like fecal coliform giardia and other potential waterborne illnesses.
Kennedy has not commented, and it's unclear whether he or his family were aware of the warnings.
It's a possible game changer for those anxious about air travel.
Aircraft maker Cirrus is launching something called Safe Return, a bright red button on one of its single engine planes that enables it to land on its own.
According to CNN, the button is overhead close to passengers in the back.
one press, and the plane will direct itself to the nearest available runway and land all by itself.
The system was designed for situations where the pilot might be incapacitated and not able to land the plane.
The button has a 10 -second delay, so if it's activated by accident, the pilot can overrule it.
Safe return has been approved by the Federal Aviation Administration and may one day be available in larger jets as well.

Safe return In today's Kid News Kicker, a bizarre scene during the prestigious Giro d 'Italia cycling competition this weekend.
During the third stage, which takes racers through Albania to Italy, a goat ran across the road straight toward New Zealand cyclist Dion Smith.
According to news .com .au, Smith was nearly taken out, as the goat forced him off the road onto the grass.
Somehow he managed to stay upright and neither he nor the goat were injured.
Smith said of the encounter, I didn't have too much time to think.
Luckily, I stayed up and added, first time for a goat for me.
Stage winner Mads Peterson also had a near miss as with just two kilometers left, the Peloton he was riding with had to swerve to avoid a dog.
