Good morning, and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kim. Today is Monday, April 14th, 2025.
And we begin with celebrities headed to the edge of space.
At this hour, barring any technical issues, pop star Katy Perry and CBS talk show host Gayle King are suited up, strapped in, and ready to blast off from West Texas with four other women high atop a Blue Origin rocket.
Liftoff is set for 8 .30 Central Daylight Time.
Their destination, the invisible Kármán Line, 62 miles above Earth, which is the internationally -recognized boundary of space.
There, all six will get to experience a few minutes of weightlessness before the quick trip back to terra -firma.
From blast -off to touchdown, the entire flight is just 11 minutes.
But that's long enough to make some history.
This will be the first all -female flight into space since 1963, when the Soviet Union's Valentina Tereshkova flew solo into orbit.
If you'd like to watch the launch, we've put a link on our resource page.
It's the holy grail of golf, the green jacket, awarded to the winner of the Masters.
And this year, it belongs to northern Irishman Rory McIlroy.
It didn't come easy.
High drama on the back nine led to a one -hole sudden -death playoff against Justin Rose.
For Mr. McElroy, the victory was bigger than just this one -storied tournament.
It allowed him to put the finishing touch on a career grand slam with wins in all four of golf's majors.
He's only the sixth golfer in that ultra -exclusive club.
The others Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods.
President Trump has more than tariffs on his mind.
He is also tackling time by weighing in on the age -old annual spring -ahead fallback debate.
Posting to Social on Friday, he said the House and Senate should push hard for more daylight at the end of a day, no more changing of the clocks.
A big inconvenience and, for our government, a very costly event.
Meaning he'd like to permanently lock the clocks on Daylight Saving Time, which we are in right now and provides more light at the end of the day.
Supporters believe it's better for late afternoon and evening exercise and activities.
Others would prefer the country land on standard time, which has more light in the morning, less in the evening, and is considered better for sleep.
Regardless, most agree that the twice yearly flip -flop has got to go.
The issue is currently being debated by the Senate Commerce Committee.
Jackie is a 2 to 3 year old German Shepherd rescued from an overcrowded shelter in Los Angeles around the time of the January wildfires and given a new lease on life in Juneau Alaska.
But after just one day with her new family Jackie gave them the slip, apparently preferring life in the great outdoors.
As you might imagine the weather can be harsh in Alaska and with big bears coming out of hibernation, time is of the essence.
So far, Jackie's Outfox trap, set with cheeseburgers and chicken, and concerned residents have taken to using an infrared camera at night to try and find her without spooking her.
Animal Control Officer Mike Mazzouch calls efforts to catch Jackie a battle of wills.
She's not willing to give up, he told The Associated Press, and we're not willing to give up either.
We already know what breaking the speed of sound sounds like, now we also know what it looks like.
NASA recently released an image showing a boom supersonic XB -1 plane as it slams through the sound barrier at 761 miles per hour, also known as Mach 1.
The picture was captured using telescopes with special filters that detect sound distortions.
We put a link to the image on our website.
The XB -1 is the precursor to Boom's supersonic commercial airliner Overture, which already has 130 orders and pre -orders from American Airlines, United Airlines, and Japan Airlines.

In today's Kid News Kicker, most baseball fans dream of catching a ball while in the stands, but we're pretty sure there's only been one to ever make the grab with fried dough.
The sweet snag went down at Fenway Park last Thursday when a Boston Red Sox fan used his partially -eaten funnel cake to snatch an airborne foul ball off the bat of Blue Jay Beau Bechette.
Camera zeroed in as Max Kavakis held up his plate with the ball firmly wrapped in what was once his dessert.
He was very nonchalant about it, almost like it was just another day at the ballpark.
Maybe because he had called in sick to work to attend the game and now he was busted on national television.
Max said his boss gave him a hard time on Friday until he saw the video for himself.
He told WCBV, ''I feel like if I didn't have the fried dough in my hand, it could be a whole different story.'' Thanks again to the Viswanath family of Beechwood, Ohio for sponsoring today's quiz.
A shout out to Kedar who turned 10 yesterday and hello to his teacher, Mrs. Delman and all his friends at Hilltop.
And hello to our other kid news classrooms. Ms. Houk's sixth grade Wildcats at Richmond Hill Middle School in Richmond Hill, Georgia.
Mrs. McCartney and her Bobcats at Algonquian in Sterling, Virginia.
Ann misses Einspar and her Panthers at Kickapoo in Wiola, Wisconsin.
Thanks for listening.
