Good morning and welcome to Kid News.

I'm Kim. Today is Friday, February 7th, 2025, and we begin with what appears to be a clucking good solution to the nation's ongoing egg shortage.

A company called Rent the Chicken is scrambling to keep up with demand from families who suddenly fancy themselves farmers.

Rent the Chicken isn't new.

It's been supplying backyard chickens to homes across the U .S.

and Canada since 2013.

But because of the bird flu and empty store shelves, business is booming.

Location -dependent, the RTC team brings a coop with two to four egg -laying hens to someone's home for six months at a time.

They also provide all the food, supplies, and instructions.

Two hens produce about a dozen eggs per week, while four will double that.

And for those that fall in love with the birds, Rent the Chicken offers adoption.

Co -founder Jen Tompkins says the new interest is less about skyrocketing prices and more about knowing that when you want eggs, you can have them.

Cracking the code of a 2 ,000 -year -old secret appears to be a job for AI.

For the past 250 50 years, scientists have been trying to decipher hidden text inside a charred scroll from ancient Rome.

The scroll was buried in the ashes of a huge volcanic eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE, and until recently, the fragile, burnt papyrus the size of a candy bar had been impossible to open, let alone read.

However, thanks to digital unrolling with the help of a high -intensity x -ray machine and artificial intelligence, scientists have ID'd their first images, including deciphering the ancient Greek word for disgust.

As one researcher told the Associated Press, we are still at the beginning of a long process.

Wonder how much Taylor Swift has helped the NFL's bottom line just by dating one of its players?

According to MarketWatch, she's added almost $1 billion in brand value.

TV viewership is up.

Outlets that don't normally cover the NFL now do.

On social, Travis Kelsey's Instagram followers jumped from $2 .7 million before Taylor to $6 .7 million now.

And the leak says that female fans accounted for nearly half of its new followers on TikTok in 2024.

During a month -long period last fall, one portion moved at the alarming rate of 4 inches per week.

Radar images indicate the slide accelerated last summer, likely fed by record -breaking rains in 2023 and early 2024.

It has slowed down since then, but scores of homes remain at risk, and so far, no solution has been found.

Just days after Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis stunned the sports world by swapping teams, another blockbuster trade is making news.

The Miami Heat's Jimmy Butler will head west to join Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors.

The six -time All -Star had initially expressed a strong interest in going to the Phoenix Suns and, according to ESPN, told the Warriors he would not sign with them before changing his mind in signing a two -year, $121 million deal.

Warriors fans are hoping playoff Jimmy will help their team in its chase for another championship.

Scenic beach views?

Expected. A snoring seal in your hotel room?

Not so much. A guest at a seaside hotel in the Netherlands got quite a surprise when they returned to find a gray seal sleeping on the floor of the bedroom.

After getting a call about the unexpected visitor, hotel employees admit at first they didn't quite believe it.

However, they soon discovered the curious creature and believe it had likely wandered in through an open door looking for a quiet place to rest.

A local marine animals rescue team soon arrived and using a seal basket carefully removed the reportedly grumpy but unharmed guest to a safer spot.
