Good morning and welcome to Kid News.
I'm Kim. Today is Wednesday, January 15th, 2025, and we begin with President Biden just hours from delivering his live farewell address to the nation.
Tonight at 8 p .m. Eastern, with just five days left in his term, he'll sit down at his desk in the Oval Office, a location typically reserved for big news and significant events, to reflect on his legacy and talk about the challenges still facing Americans.
It's the president's fifth and likely final Oval Office speech.
The last time he spoke to the country from there, it was July 24th when he explained why he was dropping out of the presidential race.
According to CBS News, the tradition of delivering a farewell address dates back to George Washington.
He didn't give it publicly, but it was published in newspapers across the country.
The Senate still reads Washington's farewell address out loud on Washington's birthday, and has done so every year since 1893.
While President Biden gets ready to exit the White House, President -elect Trump is planning a grand entrance.
Country star Carrie Underwood has been tapped to sing America the Beautiful at his inauguration next Monday, and the village people will sing their 1970s mega -hit YMCA at another event.
In a Facebook post, the group admitted that Mr.
Trump was not their preferred candidate, but said we believe that music is to be performed without regard to politics and hope their global anthem can bring the country together after a tumultuous and divided campaign.
The lineup also includes Kid Rock, Jason Aldean, Rascal Flats, and Billy Ray Cyrus.
Music may take center stage at the inauguration, but it's going to take a bit of a backseat at its own marquee event.
In true -the -show -must -go -on fashion, Grammy organizers say they'll proceed despite the wildfires but will reinvent the February 2 television special to spotlight first responders.
They'll also add a fundraiser for those who've lost their homes.
Those fires are still burning, even as 11 new blazes broke out Monday night but were quickly extinguished.
A high wind warning is expected to end around noon today.
Thanks to a pro football player, a little -known book is now a bestseller.
On Sunday, cameras caught Eagles star receiver A .J.
Brown reading Inner Excellence Train Your Mind for Extraordinary Performance in the Best Possible Life on the sidelines of his game with the Packers.
Inner Excellence is a self -help book previously ranked the 523 ,000th most popular on Amazon.
Overnight into Monday, it shot to number one.
AJ says he's surprised the moment went viral because he brings that book to every game and reads it between each drive, adding, y 'all just caught me this time.
He said the book brings him a sense of peace.
If he scores a touchdown or drops a pass, he uses it to refocus.
As for the no -longer -obscure author on the receiving end of all the free publicity, Jim Murphy told the New York Times, historically, I've been a Seahawks fan.
Now, it's the Eagles.
To get a better read on modern -day climate change, researchers went digging for ancient evidence, and they found it by drilling deep into Antarctica to extract a 1 .7 -mile -long core of ice that contains preserved pockets of Earth's air from 1 .2 million years ago.
The bundled -up group of international scientists spent four summers working in minus -25 degree Fahrenheit temps before they hit bedrock and knew they'd gone as deep as they could go.
They hope their sample will reveal clues to how Earth's atmosphere, climate and greenhouse gas emissions have changed since the Ice Age.
In other Kid News notes, the world's largest gathering of humanity is now underway.
400 million people, more than the total U .S.
population, are making their way to northern India to bathe in rivers sacred to Hindus.
The festival is called Maha Kumaila and takes place every 12 years.
And the countdown is on for this afternoon's planned test of the 400 -foot rocket known as Starship.
SpaceX had planned to launch it from Texas on Monday but postponed it until today.
Its wannabe competitor Blue Origin's new Glenn rocket will try to get off the ground in Florida again tomorrow after scrubbing its maiden flight on Monday.
Still to come, a donut mystery dunks Dunkin'.

In today's Kid News Kicker, America may run on Dunkin', but something Dunkin' runs on is, or was, apparently missing.
Shops in Nebraska, New Mexico, and Arizona last week reported running out of donuts due to a mysterious manufacturing error.
It's all very hush -hush, as employees were reportedly told by their bosses not to talk about it.
According to one source, about 4 % of U .S.
stores were impacted, but all locations hope to be back to full donut capacity this week.
Dunkin', formerly known as Dunkin' Donuts, was established in 1950 and is the largest coffee and donuts brand in the U .S., according to the company's website, with more than 13 ,200 restaurants around the world.
