All right, so today's expression is to stomp on and to stamp on.
Stomp, st-o-m-p.
Stamp, st-a-m-p.
Okay, just like when you send a letter, you need a stamp, yeah, that's that.
But the meaning is different.
To stomp on something is a phrasal verb.
To stamp on something is also a phrasal verb.
And these are almost the same thing, but there is or there can be a slight difference.
If you stomp on something, that means you take your foot and you boom, you put your foot
really hard onto something.
You stand really hard on something with your foot.
Almost like you're kicking, but you're like kicking the ground.
So for example, my son stomped on my foot.
Yeah, my son took his foot and then boom, really hard onto my foot.
It didn't hurt, my son is really small.
But anyway, I was mad, don't do that.
He was angry, he was angry, so he stomped on my foot.
So when he did that, I yelled at him and then I stomped on his foot.
No, I did not.
That would hurt because dad is big, dad's foot is big.
That is heavy.
So if I stomp on my son's foot, that's going to hurt.
I'm not going to do that.
But anyway, you should not to, don't stomp on other people's feet.
That hurts.
Obviously, if a little boy does it to you, it's not going to hurt.
But kids of the same size are adults.
That can really, really hurt, especially if you're wearing boots.
If a lady is wearing heels and she stomps on a guy's foot, oh my God, that's going to
hurt.
Even if she's not heavy, the heel of the shoe is going to go into the bone, oh, that's
going to hurt.
You could break somebody's foot if you stomped on it.
Okay.
That's the idea to stomp on.
Now to stamp on is the same thing.
However, the difference would be the amount of force or the amount of energy, the amount
of power that you're using.
So I'll give you an example.
Let's say there's a fire.
But it's not a big fire.
It's just a little fire.
It's on the ground.
Like a couple of pieces of paper are burning on the ground.
But you're worried, oh my God, there's a fire.
So we have to put the fire out.
Are you going to use your hands?
No.
You don't have any water.
What are you going to do?
You're going to stamp on it.
If you stamp on it, usually when we use the verb stamp, it's like one big heavy step.
Boom.
But to stamp, that can be, it can be hard, but it can be soft too.
Does that make sense?
So if I see a fire on the ground, like a piece of paper is burning on the ground and I
worry, oh no, that's no good, I'm going to stamp on it.
I'm going to, you know, with my foot, right?
This is the idea to stamp on.
Not once again, to stamp on something could be the same as stamp on it, like really hard.
And if you see a fire, you might stamp on it.
So the verbs we can kind of change the work both ways, but if you want to know kind of
the difference, that's basically it.
Stomp one time heavy, all your power.
Stamp a little bit lighter and maybe many times.
Okay?
To stamp on somebody's foot is painful.
If you stamp on my foot, it might hurt, but I know it was an accident.
To stamp on somebody's foot is usually not an accident.
That was intentional.
Boom, all your power.
Now I've got a really great dialogue, but let me tell you if you're eating breakfast or
lunch or dinner, don't listen to the dialogue.
Now listen a little bit later.
Okay?
All right, so you're not eating, you're okay?
All right, here we go.
Let's check out the dialogue.
Ah, a cockroach.
Oh, get it.
Gross, don't stamp on it.
Just stamp on it.
No way.
If I stop, I don't feel it.
Ah, that's really gross.
That's disgusting.
A cockroach.
You know what a cockroach is?
It's an insect, right?
C-O-C-K-R-O-A-C-H.
They're disgusting.
I hate cockroaches.
So anyway, the guy sees a cockroach.
The other guy says, oh, I'll get it.
And boom, he stomps on the cockroach.
Okay?
Now obviously, that's, you know, the cockroach is dead, but it's disgusting.
It's like, you know, right?
So the guy says, oh, gross, don't do that.
If you stamp on it, you know, it's disgusting.
Just stamp on it.
Just a little bit.
Feel it a little bit, which makes sense.
But then the other guy says, no way.
No.
If I stamp, I don't feel it.
And that's true.
If you stamp on the bug, you're not going to feel actually stepping on the bug, right?
If you stamp on it too, you might actually feel it and even hear it.
Ah, that's disgusting.
Yeah.
Oh, god.
Cockroaches.
If you stamp on them, you have to.
It's gross.
If you stamp on them, it's still gross.
Cockroaches.
I don't like cockroaches.
I tell you what, if I ever saw a cockroach in my house, I would move.
Yep.
Yeah.
Fortunately, I live up north where it's nice and cold.
So we don't have cockroaches.
We've got other problems, but not cockroaches.
Right now it's October, right?
It's October 2021.
And now we've got ladybugs.
But I don't mind ladybugs.
You know, the red bugs with little dots, the black dots, those are, yeah, they're fine.
I don't mind ladybugs.
Pretty soon we'll have some spiders.
I don't like spiders.
But they're not big ugly spiders.
They're just tiny ones.
I don't mind those.
Yeah.
But cockroaches.
No.
If I see a cockroach and I have to kill it, I will definitely stamp on it because I
don't want to feel it.
I don't care.
And then whatever, if I, if I use my shoe, I'll just throw away my shoes in the garbage.
If I use a book and, and I can use a book to kill a cockroach and then I'll have to throw
away the book.
It'll be garbage.
I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever.
Yeah, I hate cockroaches.
I really do.
Other insects.
I'm okay.
Or are there any cockroaches?
No.
Sorry.
