Yeah, okay. Today's expression is great.
Try selling them on.
Try selling them on.
This is an expression that we use sometimes when we sell, but more commonly when we try to convince someone to do something or to persuade someone to do something.
But let's go ahead and look at sell.
Okay. Try selling them on.
So I have some classes, right.
And DDM is my and Perf is my speaking class.
So as a business guy, I need to sell these classes.
So what's the best way to do that?
Price, quality, quantity.
So try selling them.
Try selling your classes on price.
What that means is when I find a potential customer, I have the customer focus on the price.
And the idea is the price is so good that they will purchase the class.
Maybe I should try selling them on the live classes.
So that means I will when I sell my class, when I talk about my class, I'll have the student or the potential customer focus on the live classes.
We have so many live classes every week.
Try selling them on the live classes.
Or maybe I should try selling them on the material.
What we study is so interesting.
It's so funny. It's so useful.
It's so practical. You'll love the lessons.
Does that make sense?
So try selling them on something means have the customer focus on that one thing.
So hopefully they buy.
Now, once again, that's specifically selling, but we can use this expression not only when we're selling something, but when we're trying to convince or persuade somebody.
Okay. So in the dialogue, we have the perfect example.
Are you ready? Check it out.
How can we get kids to stop smoking?
Well, don't try to sell them on cancer.
Kids don't care. Then what?
Try selling them on the bad smell.
Clothes, hair, cars, and the person of their dreams might hate it.
That is actually a great idea.
So, you know, young kids, teenagers, they're interested in doing, you know, smoking and doing bad things.
So what is a way that we can maybe persuade kids to stop smoking?
Well, let's sell them on cancer.
Smoking causes cancer.
Kids don't care. Some kids do, but most kids don't.
They think they're gonna smoke a couple times and then they'll quit.
They don't understand.
Well, hey, try selling them on the bad smell.
Ooh, that's a good idea.
And once again, I'm a smoker so I know all about smoking.
But yeah, if you smoke, your clothes smell like smoke.
Your hair smells like smoke.
Your car, your room, your curtains, your teddy bear smells like smoke.
And if you have a boy or a girl that you're interested in and that person comes close to you and they smell the bad smell of smoke, they're not going to be interested.
You are going to be alone forever and you are going to stink.
I think it's a great idea.
If you want to persuade kids to not smoke, if you want to convince kids that they shouldn't smoke, don't sell them on cancer.
It's not very effective.
Sell them on the bad smell.
That is actually very effective, I think.
So do you guys have any ideas, any suggestions for me on how I should try and sell my courses?
What should I get you and other potential students to focus on?
I'd love your input.
You guys have a fantastic day.
