Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane, and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to daily Easy English Expressions, the bud geeeeeeest.
It is December 26th, 2017, the day after Christmas, I've been away so long, but there's a reason.
I was sick for several days.
Then it was my birthday, then it was Christmas, and it's family time.
so I hope that for you too it was a fantastic Christmas I hope that you enjoyed your family time if you do not celebrate Christmas well the next holiday I hope you enjoy your holiday and family time Christmas was great for My wife and I the best Christmas gift Baby socks Yep, baby socks for my future son I'm serious.
Those things are so cute.
So tiny so excited Okay current temperature where I am it is minus 21 degrees Fahrenheit Celsius minus 29 degrees 29 below It's cold very very cold inside my house.
It's 18 degrees Celsius not bad.
I'm wearing a sweater It's I like it.
I really love the cold weather the time it's 1040 a .m.
So yeah, it's gonna be cold all day.
How's the weather where you are.
Now today we got a great expression.
It's a phrasal verb.
Phrasal verbs are difficult, right?
Two -word verbs they can be very difficult and I tell students the best way to learn phrasal verbs is to see how they are used and then create your own sentences.
Okay so I'm going to give you a dialogue and in the dialogue you are going to hear the phrasal verb come around twice and the meaning is different.
Okay so I want you guys to listen carefully and see if you can figure out what the phrasal the verb come around means.
Are you ready? Here we go.
Is Tom here? No. Why don't you come around tomorrow?
Oh, okay. You think he'll be less mad at me?
I'm sure. He always comes around after a day or two.
Okay. So come around.
The dialogue again.
Is Tom here? So some guy is looking for Tom.
And the other guy says, no, why don't you come around tomorrow?
Tom is not here. Why don't you come around tomorrow?
So what does come around mean?
It means visit. It means visit.
Stop over. Come here.
Okay, that's the idea.
Visit, V -I -S -I -T. And the guy says, okay, you think, do you think, he will be less mad at me?" Uh -huh, so now we know that Tom is angry at this guy and maybe if he comes tomorrow, do you think Tom will be less angry at me, okay?
And the other guy says, I'm sure, I'm sure he will be less angry at you tomorrow.
He continues, he always, Tom always comes around after a day or two.
He always comes around after a day or two.
So, after a day or two, two days, maybe three days, he always comes around.
What does this mean?
We're talking about, do you think he will be less angry?
Yes, I'm sure he always comes around.
So, the second definition of, to come around, means to change an angry mood into a less angry mood.
That's right. So, for example, if you make me really angry, rah, I'm so angry, tomorrow will I be just as angry?
Probably not. Tomorrow I might be fine.
So if you see someone that's very angry, Don't worry, after a day or two they will probably come around.
They'll probably come back to their normal not so angry self.
Phrasal verbs are really important guys and come around can have other definitions too.
It can have lots of possible definitions.
It depends on the situation.
