The narrative begins with a moment of high tension as Bajie and Wuzheng engage in a fierce battle against a powerful demon. From his confinement within the "symbols," Sun Wukong hears the harrowing "sounds of weapons clashing" and the cries of the Tang monk, followed by an ominous silence. Trapped and desperate, Wukong struggles for hours, punching and kicking the "two symbols" that refuse to budge.
His salvation arrives in the form of a "gold dragon," sent by the Jade Emperor. The dragon attempts to "wedge my horn between the symbols" to pry them apart, but the seal remains "tightly clasped." Demonstrating his characteristic ingenuity, Wukong transforms his iron bar into a "drill," bores a hole into the dragon's horn, and shrinks himself to climb inside. By using the dragon as a conduit, Wukong successfully escapes his prison, immediately turning his attention to the safety of his companions.
Upon breaking the symbols with a single, aggressive "Smash!"—an act driven by the fact that he "was angry"—Wukong is confronted by the antagonist: the demon known as "Yellow Brows." The demon reveals a motive that challenges the pilgrims' mission: "I plan to go to the Western Paradise and get the true scriptures myself."
This revelation establishes Yellow Brows not merely as a monster, but as a rival traveler seeking the same spiritual goal. The ensuing confrontation is swift; the demon utilizes a magical "cloth" from his robe to capture Wukong and the dragon, shrinking them until they are bound alongside the Tang monk, Bajie, and Wuzheng. This moment of defeat forces a reconciliation within the group, as the Tang monk admits his regret: "I'm sorry for not believing you, Wukong."
With the demon sleeping, Wukong showcases his mastery of transformation by making himself "tiny" to slip out of his ropes. He orchestrates a silent escape for his companions, warning everyone to be "quiet." The group successfully navigates their way out of the monastery, but the mission is hampered by Bajie’s forgetfulness. The pig admits, "I forgot them," referring to the bags containing the Tang monk’s "special robe."
Despite the risks, Wukong returns to the room. In a moment of high suspense, the monkey's stealth fails as he "tripped and knocked over a statue." The loud "Ben!" alerts the demon, who bellows, "What was that?" The summary concludes on a cliffhanger, with Wukong caught in a vulnerable position, underscoring the precarious nature of their journey and the constant threat posed by Yellow Brows.
