Hello, everybody. My name is Coach Shane, and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello, everybody. Welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression, the podcast.
Thank you very much, everybody, for listening to this podcast.
It is my great great pleasure that you download and listen to me and learn some English and have some fun.
I really sincerely appreciate that.
I have a newsletter going out tonight.
Do you get my newsletter?
It's pretty cool. Some pictures of me and some information about the live class tomorrow and other great stuff up to www .letsmasterenglish .com slash free.
Okay, today's expression, it's a word.
Lie -way, lee -way. I don't have any lie -way.
I need some more lie -way.
I wish I had lie -way, L -E -E -W -A -Y.
leeway. Leeway basically means freedom or extra, extra time, extra money, extra freedom.
That's the idea. So, not just freedom, but extra freedom, or not just money, but extra money, not just time, but extra time, extra something.
It's good. Having leeway is very good.
So for example, I like to arrive at my office with ten minutes leeway.
I like to arrive at my office ten minutes early.
That way I can, you know, I can relax in my car, listen to a song.
I can go out and get a coffee, I can go to the store, get a candy bar, whatever.
I have that extra 10 minutes.
If I don't have at least 10 minutes leeway, then I'm stressed.
So I like to arrive at my office with at least 10 minutes leeway.
Let's say you and I go to lunch and all we have is $20.
dollars. So you order something and I order something and your bill is $8 and my bill is $7, that's $15.
I say hey we still have $5 leeway.
We still have 5 extra dollars so if we want we could maybe buy some cake or get a coffee.
we have five dollars leeway extra in this case extra cash that we can use if we want to extra time that I can use for myself if I want to and check out the example in the dialogue why did you quit the radio and TV not enough leeway what What do you mean?
Ah, the radio and TV, they killed my creativity!
It's true, yeah. I spent on television, how many years was I on TV?
From probably 1994 to 2000, let's say 2010, so that's 16 years and still, this is in South Korea, they still show my old TV shows on TV, isn't that amazing?
and I don't get paid.
And the radio, my goodness, in America I did the radio for two years, and then in Korea I did the radio from about the same time, about 16 years, so yeah.
I really liked being on TV.
I enjoyed it. I loved the radio.
I especially enjoyed the radio, but I quit.
I quit in about 2008 -2009 -2010 right in that area.
The reason was, many reasons, but one of the reasons was creativity.
I wanted to do a lot of different things.
I wanted to be more in control of what I did.
Whether it was music or education or having fun, and the writers and the producers and The radio stations and the TV stations said no that's too much, no we can't do that.
Oh let's not do that, oh let's do this and it just made me so angry so I quit.
But I quit doing the radio and TV but then I went to youtube.
That's when I started my youtube channel and I'm very happy.
I started my podcast a couple years ago and you guys are listening right now to this podcast.
I have another podcast, which I enjoy the freedom, but again, I was, it's frustrating because I'm missing something, and that's music.
And I have very good news, yes.
I am in the process of getting licensed from three major music rights associations in America.
It's extremely expensive, But, hopefully starting maybe this week, yeah, Let's Master English will be better than ever.
It'll be called LME Today and we have a website, LMEToday .com and we will have music.
So not only will we have interesting talk and the talk is going to be focused on ESL But we're going to have music too.
So I'm going to want your letters.
I'm going to want your voices.
I want you to be involved with this new internet radio station all created by Coach Shane.
And it's really, it's going to be so much fun and I need your help.
So I can trust that you're going to help me, right?
Yeah. I want you to listen to it.
I want you to participate and Yeah, I'm really excited Lme today if you go there right now, there's nothing okay But we will have it and it's going to be great.
I'm so excited. Finally.
I will have complete leeway Complete Freedom to do what I want if there's something I want to do in my job.
I will now have leeway When I worked at the radio stations and TV stations if there was something I wanted to do, I didn't have the leeway.
I wasn't able to have that flexibility, to have that freedom to do something.
It's such a great expression.
Having leeway, very very important.
Do you have leeway?
Do you have leeway at home?
Do you have leeway at school?
At work? Where do you have leeway?
Where do you wish you had more leeway.
This podcast is way too long, I think.
You guys have a fantastic day.
Check out the dialogue a couple more times.
And together... let's master English!
Why did you quit the radio and TV?
Uh, not enough leeway.
What do you mean? Ahh, the radio and TV?
They killed my creativity!
Why did you quit the radio and TV?
Not enough leeway. What do you mean?
Ah, the radio and TV, they killed my creativity.
