Welcome to the Listening Time Podcast.
Hey English learners, this is Connor and you're listening to episode 271 of the Listening Time Podcast.
I hope you're doing great.
I actually just got back from Europe yesterday.
Many of you know that I took a trip to Greece and then we also went to Paris for a couple of days to see my wife's family.
She has a sister who lives there and another sister who lives in Ireland who met up with us there.
So we just came back from that trip yesterday.
So things are a little bit hectic today.
Now meaning a little chaotic a little crazy but it's good to be back and to record another episode after taking a little bit of time off
In the next episode, I'm going to start talking about my trip to Greece.
I'm going to probably do a few episodes about it, but not yet.
Today, I wanted to talk about a very simple topic, the topic of colors.
And I'll talk about what they make me think of, some of my favorite colors, everything related to colors.
So this is a pretty basic topic, but we all have favorite colors and colors make us think.
Feel different ways, and make us think of certain things.
So that's what I'll talk about today while you listen to me and practice your English listening comprehension.
As always, I want to remind you that you can get all of my advanced episodes.
There are like a hundred of them already.

Okay, let's talk about colors.
I'm going to go through the colors of the rainbow here and give some of my thoughts about each one.
First, let's start with red.
For me, red is probably the boldest color.
It's the color that
Carries the most weight maybe you could say like it really evokes meaning it provokes or causes a lot of feelings
I think red is maybe the most powerful color in my opinion.
I'm sure many of you agree.
It's a very striking color.
When you see something that's red, it draws your attention, I think.
Like if you see a red car,
It's very noticeable versus just a gray car, for example.
So red is a bold, striking color that draws your attention, in my opinion.
I think it carries some extreme feelings like passion and love, for example.
So think of roses.
Roses are red, right?
So when you buy a rose for the person you love, it
Signifies passion and I think part of that is the color.
So it's passion or love.
Think of hearts.
When we think of the heart, the shape of the heart that we draw or whatever, we think of the color red usually.
Sometimes pink as well, but red is probably the first color that comes to mind when we think of hearts.
So passion and love, these are feelings that the color red evokes.
Also angry passion, because passion can also be something that's a little bit angry, like when someone is in a fight.
Furious temper and they're not thinking clearly and they're so mad sometimes we say that they see red
Like you see red you're not able to see clearly you're so passionate in an angry way like you want to fight someone
So red also makes me think of that.
Also, blood, right?
Red is the color of blood, so it could signify war or life, the lifeblood, right?
Blood is what gives us life as well.
So red is a very striking, bold, powerful color, in my opinion.
And it's also used to make a statement in many cases.
Red is not just a neutral color that people don't notice.
When you use the color red for something, it's like you really want to tell people something.
Right.
So think of gangs in Southern California, where I live.
There are certain people that might wear red because that is the color of their gang.
And it's a very striking, visible color.
And then also one thing about red is it feels like a hot color, a warm, hot color in every way.
If we think of passion or whatever, it's a very hot, warm color.
So red is a powerful color.
It's not my favorite color, to be honest, but I recognize that it is a very strong color.
How about orange?
Orange is a vibrant color, in my opinion.
I think it has
A lot of life, it draws attention as well.
Maybe not as much as red in some ways, but it still feels...
Warm, right?
It's one of those warmer colors I think the first thing that the color orange reminds me of is the fruit the orange, right?
It has the same name.
I think it's impossible to disassociate or remove the connection between the color orange and the fruit orange.
Right?
They are very closely connected.
So I think of that when I think of orange.
And I also want to say that some subdued orange colors, like not the really bright ones,
The ones that are more subtle, we might say they're subdued or subtle.
I actually really like these orange shades, these different orange colors.
There's some of my favorite colors, actually.
I think that if I had to choose my favorite types of colors, they would be like this family of colors like subdued oranges.
Gold, beige, light brown.
I group these together as the colors of the desert, I would say.
Whenever my son asks me, Dada, what's your favorite color?
My response is always the colors of the desert.
The colors of the desert are my favorite colors.
I know that might sound a little strange.
Most people have a very specific color that is their favorite.
I always just say the colors of the desert.
I've always loved these colors.
I've always loved the desert and how it looks and its colors.
And when I was a kid,
In my parents' house, the living room had this kind of Spanish style to it, and it was kind of like an orange-brown color.
And I always felt really at home and comfortable in that living room with that color for the walls.
So for that reason and other reasons, I really like these colors.
I like the desert and all the different colors associated with the desert.
How about yellow?
Yellow is probably the brightest color.
When we think of bright colors, I think yellow is the first one that comes to mind.
It's the color of the sun and the sun is the brightest thing that we can see.
We're not supposed to look at the sun because
It can damage your eyes.
It's so bright.
So yellow is the color that we think of when we think of bright colors, very cheerful colors, happy colors probably.
Yellow is not like a sad color.
It's a happy color.
It feels like an energetic color, I guess I would say.
It definitely attracts attention.
I think just like red, something that's yellow attracts your eye, attracts your attention.
When someone wears a yellow shirt or like a woman wears a yellow dress,
I feel like it's very noticeable.
It might attract attention.
So yellow is bright, cheerful.
It attracts attention.
It also makes me think of citric fruits like lemons, for example.
Yellow can feel like a sour type color because it makes you think of lemons.
And maybe that's just me, but that's something that I feel, a feeling maybe, that yellow might give me.
Yellow doesn't feel like a very serious color to me.
It feels like a very light, happy, light-hearted color, we might say.
That's how I feel about yellow.
How about green?
Green for me is the color that makes me think of nature because when we think of nature, usually the first thing we think of is trees.
And most trees are green in some way, right?
So green is the color of nature and the color of life because when we think of things growing, like trees growing, plants growing,
We think of the color green in many cases, so it kind of symbolizes life, I would say.
Green, to me, feels like a pretty peaceful color.
Like a really bright green, but just a normal green or a subdued green.
It makes me feel peaceful, probably because it's the color of nature.
And when I'm in nature, I feel peaceful, of course.
So green is a peaceful color.
It's a pleasant color.
Color overall it makes you feel good or it makes me feel good it's not a very striking bold color that draws a ton of attention like red or yellow for me it's a more peaceful pleasant color
How about blue?
Well, when I think of blue, I think of water, like many of you probably.
So blue reminds me of the sea, the ocean, rivers, lakes, also the sky.
So in that way, blue is also a nature color.
It makes me think of nature.
Blue feels fresh.
That's the feeling I would associate with the color blue, probably because blue is the color of water, right?
So it feels fresh to me.
It feels pretty calming, I would say.
It's like the opposite of red.
I think the exact opposite of the color red is the color blue for me.
It's very calming.
It doesn't feel super striking and extreme like red does.
So it's like the opposite.
I think it's hard not to like the color blue.
I feel like most people like the color blue.
It feels good.
It evokes nice, pleasant feelings in people.
So I think blue is a color that most people probably like.
And then purple.
Purple is a little weird.
It doesn't really provoke many feelings.
It doesn't evoke much in me.
I don't really associate purple with that much.
It doesn't feel like a color that is really packed with feeling or packed with a certain sense of emotion or something like that.
I'm curious what you think, because when I was trying to think of
What purple makes me feel like or think of I couldn't really think of much so maybe the few fruits and vegetables that we eat that are purple like plums or eggplant or things like that but
I don't really get any feelings from purple.
I don't know what to say about this.
So what colors do I wear?
I like to wear black and white t-shirts.
This is what I prefer to wear almost every day, either a black t-shirt or a white t-shirt.
For me, black is
Is the best color to wear.
I like wearing black t-shirts.
That's my favorite item of clothing.
You've probably seen me in different videos or whatever wearing black t-shirts or white t-shirts.
I don't wear a lot of other colors, but one that I do wear is subdued dark green, kind of like the military color in the US.
I think that that color suits me well, meaning it looks good on me.
It matches me.
People have told me that.
So I like that color.
And then for pants, I usually wear brown or beige pants.
Sometimes dark green as well.
I don't really like wearing blue jeans.
I know this is like the most common type of pants that people wear, but I
I don't really like wearing blue jeans.
I don't own any.
So I usually wear brown, beige, dark green, black for pants.
And then also gray.
I wear gray suits.
I wear gray sweatshirts.
So that's another color I wear.
But like I said, I don't really like wearing the colors of the rainbow too much.
I like black and white and brown and gray, dark green.
That's what I prefer.
That's my style in terms of clothing.
How about my house?
What color is my house on the inside in terms of our decoration?
Like what colors did we choose?
Well, we have...
Different wooden furniture.
We like wood and that color.
I really like that.
And then cream, kind of like a white color, but not perfectly white, more like a creamy white.
So cream and wood colors, beige as well.
Also some subdued greens.
That's kind of the pattern.
In our house we have like wood cream green beige these types of colors so those are colors that my wife and i chose for our furniture how about cars i think black cars look the best
In my opinion, I know other people have their own opinions about that, but I really like how black cars look.
I think it makes any car look cooler when it's black.
Like if I think of a white car and then a black car.
Option of the same car, I always think the black option looks a lot better in my opinion.
So overall, I would say my favorite colors are the colors of the desert.
I like other colors for clothes, cars, furniture, but in terms of
Just my favorite overall colors.
I usually say that the colors of the desert are my favorite colors.
I like those types of colors.
I feel an attachment to them.
So that would be my answer for what my favorite color is.
