Let's go back.
Today's expression sounds delicious, but it's not.
Listen carefully.
I got a beef with you.
I got a beef with you.
You got a beef?
You want a beef?
Beef.
B-E-E-F.
Beef means meat from a cow, right?
Yeah.
Beef.
I like beef.
I like steaks.
I like hamburgers.
I like roasts.
I like stew.
I love beef.
So you want a beef steak?
Does that mean do you want some meat?
No, no, no, no, no.
Beef, B-E-E-F, as meat, as cow meat, is an uncountable noun.
So we cannot say a beef.
We can't.
When we talk about meat, we do not say a beef.
We can say a piece of beef, but not a beef.
So I got a beef with you.
Do you want a beef?
Do you have a beef?
What does this mean?
It doesn't mean meat.
It means anger.
You want to fight?
I got a beef.
I'm really angry.
I got a beef.
I have a complaint.
You want a beef?
You want to fight?
You want a problem?
Do you want to fight with me?
I got a beef with you.
I have a problem with you.
You did something wrong to me.
We need to talk.
We need to fight.
Now, sometimes it can mean fight, like fight.
But usually you're just angry.
Maybe you want to have an argument or there was a misunderstanding and you need to make sure the person doesn't make that mistake again.
It's a good expression.
It's very common.
Check out the dialogue.
Hey, I've got a beef with you.
What?
What did I do?
You used my cell phone without asking.
Hey, man.
Sorry about that.
It was an emergency.
Do you have a cell phone?
Yeah.
Is it a smartphone?
Is it nice?
Yeah.
Do you like it?
Can anybody use your phone without asking?
If they see your phone, can they just pick it up and use it and look at it?
Is that okay without asking?
No, that's not okay.
That's people's cell phone.
That's private.
It's personal information, you know.
Maybe you've got some secrets in there.
Uh-huh.
Uh-huh.
Anyway, it's your property and other people should not just touch your property.
They should ask, right?
So if somebody uses something that belongs to you and it makes you angry, then you – legitimately have a beef with that person.
You got a beef.
There's a problem.
That person did something wrong and you need to tell that person.
Maybe you need to yell at that person.
You're angry.
I want you guys to think of examples of when you have had a beef with somebody.
What was the situation?
Share these ideas so that people can see how you are using this expression and, of course, use google to check out how to use a beef too.
It's a great expression.
Check out that dialogue two more times.
Hey, i've got a beef with you.
What?
What did I do?
You used my cell phone without asking.
Hey, man.
Sorry about that.
It was an emergency.
Hey, I've got a beef with you.
What?
What did I do?
You used my cell phone without asking.
Hey, man.
Sorry about that.
It was an emergency.
Thanks so much for listening.
