Hi, this is Sophia Cartman, host of the Dream Big Podcast show, a place to learn, laugh, and grow.
Big Dreamers, today we're talking about something super exciting, the power of fresh starts.
Just like spring cleaning makes our homes feel fresh and new, we can do the same to our minds.
Make sure to stay to the very end and learn a powerful trick to refresh your mindset instantly.
This is episode 445 of the Dream Big Podcast, and it's time to dream big.
Welcome to the Dream Big Podcast show.
We're inspiring you to shoot for the moons they came and go.
We bring to you amazing guests who truly love what they do every day.
Are you pumped yet?
It's showtime.
Let's rock and roll.
Welcome back, big dreamers.
I don't know about you, but every night before I go to bed I try my best to tidy up my room, just putting things back where they belong, so I can wake up to a fresh start.
And once a month, I take it to the next level, decluttering.
That means saying goodbye to old things I don't need, like old papers, toys I've outgrown or clothes that don't fit anymore.
It feels so good to create new space for new things I love.
But did you know that we can do the same thing with our thoughts?
Yep, just like our rooms, our minds can get cluttered too.
Imagine your brain is like a big closet.
It's packed with stuff that doesn't make you feel good, like worries, doubts, or old mistakes.
If yes, then guess what?
It's time for mental spring cleaning.
You may ask, why does a fresh start matter?
Well, think about how it feels when you wake up in a clean, organized space.
Right, big dreamers?
You can find your favorite clothes so easily.
You have room to play, and it just makes things lighter.
That's exactly what happens when we clear out the clutter in our minds.
When we let go of old worries and replace them with positive thoughts, we make room for confidence, creativity and excitement about the future.
But sometimes it's not easy to know what thoughts to let go of, right?
That's why I have a super fun three-step process that can help us do just that.
I call it three steps to spring cleaning your mind.
Step one, recognize what's taking up space in your mind.
Are you holding on to a mistake that you made?
Maybe you're stressing about something that might happen, but hasn't even happened yet.
Have you ever felt embarrassed about something that you said or you did and you keep replaying it in your mind like a movie?
Big dreamers, it's time to let go.
Holding onto your negative thoughts is just like keeping an old, broken toy in your closet.
It's just taking up space and keeping you from enjoying the awesome new things that are waiting for you.
Here's a quick exercise.
Take a deep breath and think about one worry or negative thought that's been hanging around your mind.
Do it now, please.
I'll give you a few seconds.
Got it?
Now imagine putting that thought in a balloon and watching it float away.
Do it now.
Up and up it goes.
Doesn't that feel lighter already?
Do it every time you want to let go of your thoughts.
It's so easy.
Step two, replace old thoughts with fresh, positive ones.
Our brain believes whatever you tell them.
If you keep saying, I can't do this, your brain will believe it.
But if you say, I am learning, I will get better, your brain will believe that too.
Try this, write down a thought that makes you feel bad.
Now flip it.
If your thought is I'll never be good at math, change it to every time I practice, I get better at math.
If your thought is nobody likes me, change it to I'm a kind, fun, and great friend.
The words we use matter, so let's choose the ones that lift us up.
Step three, take action.
What's one thing you can do right now to feel fresh and inspired?
Maybe it's something new, like dancing to your favorite song or just even taking a deep breath and smiling.
Tiny actions make a big change in how we feel.
Here's a fun challenge for you.
Do one small thing today that makes you feel fresh and organized and energized.
It could be stretching when you wake up, drinking a glass of water, going outside for some fresh air or even just making your bed.
Small actions add up to big results over time.
One of my favorite things about Fresh Start is that we can add them any time we want.
You don't have to wait for a new year, a new season, or even a new week.
You can decide right now to make a Fresh Start.
Did you make a mistake today?
No big deal.
Take a deep breath and start again.
Did something not go as planned?
That's okay.
Learn from it and move forward.
Every moment is a new chance to be the best version of you.
Your mind is a superpower.
Big Dreamers.
Just like when we take care of our brooms and our bodies, we need to organize and take care of our minds.
Your mind is yours to organize.
Clean and refresh anytime you want.
And when you do, you'll feel more focused, happy, and ready to take on the world.
And now let's recap so you can remember and practice it daily.
Number one, recognize your thoughts that don't serve you.
If it doesn't help you, let it go.
Number two, replace negative thoughts with positive ones.
Flip the script and tell yourself empowering stories.
Number three, take action.
Even small steps can make a big difference.
And of course, keep dreaming big.
