Let's be real, Iowa.
Around here, deviled eggs aren't deviled eggs unless they're made with Miracle Whip.
You know it.
Your neighbors know it.
Heck, everyone from Council Bluffs to Davenport knows it.
That tangy zip of Miracle Whip doesn't just jazz up bland apps.
It's the reason people hover by the deviled egg tray.
So here's to you for keeping it bold, keeping it zippy and keeping Miracle Whip right where it belongs in all your favorite recipes.
Buy Miracle Whip at your local grocery store and get your tang on, Iowa.
Hello everybody, my name is Coach Shane and welcome to Easy English Expressions.
Come on, let's master English.
Hello everybody, welcome back to Daily Easy English Expression, the podcast number 1170.
Ooh, to let someone dangle, d-a-n-g-l-e.
Any idea what this expression means?
Now, many times to let means to give an opportunity to.
Opportunity.
That sounds good.
But to let someone dangle is not good.
Check out the dialogue.
It's Friday night.
Why are you at home?
Sally might call.
I just saw her out with John.
What?
She's letting you dangle, man.
Move on.
Wah, wah, wah, wah.
Oh, boy, this is a sad story.
Did you hear it?
Yeah.
So this one guy, he sounds like fun.
He sounds like country Shane.
Do you guys listen to my Let's Master English podcast?
It's really great.
Yeah, Let's Master English.
Just search for it.
Again, it's in my community, school.com slash LME, S-K-O-O-L.com slash LME.
Okay, so it's Friday night.
The guy's talking.
He sounds pretty cool.
It's Friday night.
Why are you at home?
Because in America, especially if you're young and single, Friday night, Saturday night, date night.
That's when you go out on a date.
And if you don't have a girlfriend or a boyfriend, you go hunting.
You go looking.
You go fishing.
You see if you can find somebody that you like.
That's what we used to do, right?
I don't know.
Do young people do that anymore?
Anyway, that's the conversation.
So the guy says, it's Friday night.
Why are you at home?
And the other guy says, oh, Sally might call.
Sally is a girl's name.
She might call because she likes me.
And the other guy says, sorry, but I just saw her out with John.
Dun, dun, dun.
Sally is on a date with John, and this guy's waiting for her.
So the guy says, what?
Oh, my God.
His heart is broken.
So the guy says, she's letting you dangle, man.
Move on.
Move on means forget about her.
You know, forget this woman.
Sally's nothing.
She's letting you dangle.
D-A-N-G-L-E.
Another word for dangle would be hang.
H-A-N-G.
This guy's hanging on to the phone.
He's holding the phone, hoping she's going to call.
He keeps there, hanging on to the phone.
He's just hanging on to the phone.
Will she call me?
Will she call me?
Should I call her?
Will she call me?
He's waiting.
He's hanging on.
He's hanging.
And she's letting him dangle.
She should tell him, hey, I'm with John.
I'm not interested in you.
But she doesn't.
And this guy's hanging.
He's dangling.
She's letting him dangle.
The idea of dangle, you know, hang on to the phone means hold your phone.
But this comes from the word hang.
And you can imagine, like, how can we imagine this?
There's a rope, R-O-P-E, a string, a very thick string, right?
And you're holding on to the string.
And if you let go of the string, you fall.
Ah! like in a cartoon.
And you're holding on to that rope.
And if you let go, you're going to die.
You're holding on.
You're praying, please, please, please be good.
Please, everything be okay.
That is the idea of hanging or dangling.
She's letting him dangle.
He's holding on to this rope, thinking possibly, maybe things will be okay.
But the fact is, he's going to fall.
It's over.
Don't let people dangle.
If you say you're going to call them, if you say you're going to do something, if you say you're interested in them, then move forward.
And if you are sitting there dangling, waiting for that woman or that guy to call you, waiting for that opportunity, forget about it.
You are more important.
So I'm going to tell you something really personal.
So my wife, she has her own business.
And she was talking to this really powerful business guy.
And he said, oh, yeah, I think we want to do a project with you.
And she says, great.
She's really excited.
And she was waiting for two weeks for him to call back.
Just waiting, waiting, hoping he's going to call back because it was a big deal.
And he never did.
And during those two weeks, I told her, man, you need to let go.
Let go.
Don't hang on.
He's letting you dangle.
Forget about it.
Move on.
If he really wants to work with you, he'll call you back.
In the meantime, don't think about it.
Do your thing.
And that's my message to all of you.
Is there someone that's letting you dangle right now?
Maybe in a relationship, maybe for work, maybe for some help, but they don't contact you and you're still waiting.
Stop it.
Don't wait.
You are more important than that.
And think about this seriously.
Are you letting somebody dangle?
Don't do that.
It's not nice.
It's not cool to dangle.
Scary.
D-A-N-G-L-E.
It's an excellent expression.
I think this podcast was a little bit long, but there's a lot to learn in this podcast.
